In the States, you could probably expect to find a handful of great burger joints in every city. Unfortunately, Brighton only has a few with one of the most consistent being Gourmet Burger Kitchen. Situated smack in the middle of the North Laines, GBK is a lively place that's quite busy in the week and rammed at weekends. They have seating indoors and out and the large dining area makes it perfect for big groups and kids birthday parties. The steep prices mean parents that decide to treat their kid had better check their wallets before inviting along the rest of the class! There's 28 different burgers on the menu, all made from tasty Aberdeen-Angus steak apart from the organic Laverstoke Park Farm range (which includes buffalo and wild boar). Seasoning wise, you can choose from cajun, chilli, BBQ, mexican and satay to more yuppy varieties like avacado and bacon. Vegetarians have a choice of falafel, puy lentil, mushroom or aubergine burgers but having sampled these, I'd recommend sticking to fries and milkshake. Really. The price of burgers range from £6-£8 but they charge an extra £2.75 for fries and an extra £1.55 for dipping sauces. The sauces are hand-made allegedly but I still think it's a little mean to charge for such small quantities. They also sell a small range of beers, wines, sodas and milkshakes. Don't go expecting a diner milkshake made from ice-cream, milk and valhrona though - these are much thinner and flavourless, hence 4 stars instead of 5!

Does what it says on the tin - great burgers in a nice atmosphere. We had to wait 20 minutes for our burgers, which we were told when we ordered because it was busy, but it took almost as long to get our drinks which was a bit annoying. The camemburger was tasty & the sweet potato fries were delicious - for £12 including a drink it was good value. As I said it was busy and as a result my friends chair kept getting hit as people squeezed past him which got irritating quite quickly do we didn't hang around.

If this is gourmet cooking, Raymond Blanc has a lot to answer for, and I have clearly misunderstood the definition of the word 'gourmet' my entire adult life. Do other gourmet have a bar where you order? And an aquarium with no fish in? And a wall that changes colour for no adequately explored reason? I'm nitpicking here: it is actually very good, just not what it purports to be. It's a burger bar: a big, outlandish decorated burger bar that quite literally spoils you for choice. Some of the combinations are unusual, as are some of the meats: you can keep you bison burger GBK, thank you very much. If you look past all that, the finished product is very good indeed: I've had some very tasty burgers here. They don't seem to be made to be eaten by hand, as they are quite simply too large to be held by normal humans, which is a bit strange, but foregiveable. Again, it's all too expensive, but I may as well tack that onto the end of most of my reviews of Brighton businesses: it's an expensive part of the country, folks! Still, if I want a burger that can be classed as evening meal in its own right, I'm liable to end up here.

Went for lunch with a friend first time ever been to the brand. Was pleasantly surprised. Really good burger and lush sweet potato fries. The only criticism I would give is we waited along time for our drinks but really loved the venue worth a visit

This place is very good if your looking to have an 'up class' burger, rather than from the McDonalds pound menu. The burger are all made with angus steak with a wide range of ingredients, which makes the burgers extra special. Highly recommended aswell as the friendly staff

It is both a blessing and a nightmare that Brighton Burger is so close to my current flat. A…read moreblessing because, let's face it, these are some of the best burgers I've ever tasted, and a nightmare because it's going to be hard not to get one every single day... Set up in a tiny, shack-like kitchen just beside the Giggling Squid, Brighton Burger serves hearty, honest, flavoursome food. Their menu is wonderful, hosting many unusual eats and obscure burgers - from wild boar to buffalo- but they also server your usual burger and fries to a very high standard. The burgers themselves are almost moist and full of flavour. So moist, in fact, that my takeaway burger soaked through the paper bag (my only teeny complaint!). This can be forgiven though, for as soon as you bite into the juicy burger, cuddled by sweet, soft bun and topped with whatever glorious accompaniments you opted for, everything can be forgiven. Literally everything. This last visit had me trying out the buffalo burger, which was absolutely delicious! Not as different tasting as you might expect it to be, but certainly different enough that you notice you're tasting something new and out of the ordinary! I added chips to my order and they came out, all thin and crispy, just how I like them! I almost typed there were 'too many chips' there, but let's be honest there's no such thing. There were loads of them though, in one portion, so maybe share between two if your appetite is not massive! The man who served me was pleasant (they always are!) and the service was quick and painless. The burger and chips came to around £8 which, though not the cheapest in Brighton, is so so reasonable for the portion sizes and quality of the food here! There's also a few tables and chairs dotted out by the front of the place, so you can sit in the sun (when it's about) and enjoy your burger in peace, watching the world go by! If you're in Brighton and you haven't tried these burgers then, firstly, shame on you, and secondly TRY THEM. I'll eat my hat if you're not impressed and back again for seconds the next week! :P

This is really a special kind of burger place…read more We are spoilt for choice in Brighton, and so much of our community is staunchly on team burger brothers, with splinter faction taking root for the admirable efforts of GBK. This is a call for burger pluralism. As Sophie said, Brighton Burger is equally good in a different way. Every burger here is special. At first glance each one of them could have come from a different restaurant. Most visibly, the buns are completely distinct. All time favorites are of course the Brighton Burger and the Ranch. There is something here for you regardless of what kind of burger you like. Purists ought to grab the eponymous Brighton Burger, but even if you want pulled pork there's a sandwich for you in the Tennesse Terror. Rest assured, the patties are succulent, the unique buns are always on point, and the veg is top notch. Just look at the photos and try this place out.

So let's look beyond the aggressive facade to the food. Things got off to a bad start because there is no veggie or fish option. Therefore I chose blue cheese burger from their slightly quirky list. It was one of those insipid patties that have been formed into a mould. Not a good sign. I feel a little queasy thinking of it all actually. The saving grace was my fresh banana milkshake, which went down very well. In sum, a cheap and cheerless place.

It was my last night in Brighton and I had done loads of research and came upon this place, it's fairly new so not too many locals new about it but I decided to give it a try. The service was a little slow, one guy working but the food was way too fucking good. You have the option of wings with different sauces or fried chicken burgers. THEY ALSO HAVE VEGAN OPTIONS. I decided to order the Hot as Cluck burger with Fried Potato skins & 2 sauces. WOW.... I'm not even sure if I can use my words to describe how good this was. The thigh fillet was so juicy, moist and flavourful, the coating was crispy but the breading was evenly spread. It was topped with pickles, lettuce, & spicy chipotle slaw. As a side I got the fried potato skins... fuck French fries - these were insanely good. They were fully cooked, had a great crisp to it and a bit chewy. They were seasoned perfectly. I also decided to get 2 of the homemade sauces. The Thai basil & jalapeño creamy sauce and the Sweet Soy & Ginger. They were perfection. The Thai basil went great with the potatoes and I would splash a bit of the soy on the chicken burger. Now the most important part is after I had finished I didn't feel gross, I didn't feel as though I had eaten junk food! That's called quality right there. Please check this place out!
