Being a huge fan of JB's American Diner in Brighton, I was somewhat hesitant to see if this diner was any better... A few people had said it was good (though they've never been to JB's so now I understand why: they had nothing to compare it to) so I went with a friend who'd said this.
I am going to catagorise everything and review.
Interior/atmosphere:
-the decorations are pretty awesome! Lots of superhero statues and film stuff all around (both things I love!)
-three different films on show on different screens (though no sound, it was still cool)
-the music is good old rock
-nice seats and the tables were clean.
So to begin with, this place was pretty good.
Service/staff:
-the staff were friendly
-relatively good speed though it wasn't very busy so I'd hate to have been there on a super busy day!
Drinks:
-for £2.50 I had botomless fanta, which I think is great value
-the prices are reasonable
Food:
Here begins the problem...
-Sides are a good price (I got a large bowl of cheesy chips for £2.50)
-Suprisingly, they offer quorn chicken in place of chicken meals which, as a veggie, was really awesome to see!
-my main was £9.99...in my opinion, £9 over its worth... I ordered the vegetable chilli. When I make this, I use courgettes, peppers, onions, kidney beans and butter beans and a nice jar sauce. All-in-all, costing about £2 for a large bowlfull. Here, they used Uncle Ben's rice (which has a strange, distinctive flavour...though at least it wasn't really cheap rice, I guess...), peas, carrots, green beans, one other veg (not sure what) and a cheap jar sauce. I couldn't face more than five mouthfuls. It was horrible and probably cost £2 to make!. If I hadn't had the chips, and an English attitude (i.e. embarrassed to complain) I would've sent it straight back. When the girl collected the plates I gave feedback. She then brought a feedback card to complete and I got 10% off my chilli. To be honest, I wish I'd said straight away as I literally didn't want to pay anything for it.
Overall:
-the interior is nice
-staff are quite friendly
-far too expensive
-food is rubbish
My friend's burger (and the meat chilli she'd had before) are nice though, apparently so may be worth trying?
I, however, will not be returning. JB's all the way! read more
