I share that upfront simply to establish that I understand how business used to operate, as well as how establishments must adapt to the times. On October 3, 2026 at 7:27 PM I ordered a pizza from CELESTINOS NEW YORK PIZZA AND PASTA, Oroville. I asked for light cheese and light pepperoni. That has been my go-to order for as long as I can remember. A cheerful team member took my order, and I waited 25 minutes for it to bake. When it was ready, I thanked them and took the box without checking the contents inside. Once home, my wife opened the box and called out, "Come look at this!" Inside was a medium pizza with heavy cheese and heavy pepperoni, literally swimming in a quarter-inch pool of oil. Neither my wife nor our grandchildren would touch it. I tore off a slice to taste it; the best way to describe it was a limp, gooey, sauce-drenched, wet washcloth covered in pepperoni, and it tasted just as unappealing as it looked. Our dinner that night ended up being just the side salad we had prepared. The following evening, I returned to the store with the uneaten pizza. Respectfully not wanting to create a scene I quietly motioned for the manager, Heather, to speak with me off to the side, away from the counter and out of earshot of other customers and staff. I explained my original order and showed her the pizza. After a few minutes, she offered only two solutions: Accept a remake on the spot right then and there. Take a $5.00 discount off a future order. I explained that my family and I had already eaten dinner for the night and asked if she could simply issue a credit for a replacement at a later date. She firmly refused, stating that strict owner policies prevented it, that she would not risk her job to break protocol, and she refused to provide the owner's name. This policy is the core of my grievance. Once a business acknowledges an error and agrees to make it right, refusing to let the customer redeem the replacement at a practical time--especially after being told they have already eaten--makes little sense. In the days following this incident, my wife and I reached out to 23 friends to run an informal field test. We asked each person to order a medium pepperoni and cheese pizza from their local pizzeria, leave the box unopened, and call back within 15 minutes to state that the pizza had too much cheese and pepperoni rather than the "light" portions requested. Most of our friends are seniors and were glad to take part. While this test was unscientific, it demonstrates how customer-focused businesses handle service recovery. Many restaurateurs still treat patrons with courtesy, fairness, and a willingness to resolve disputes smoothly to preserve a long-term business relationship. The Test Results (23 Pizzerias Contacted): Future remakes at no cost: 23 out of 23 offered Complimentary size or topping upgrades: 23 out of 23 offered Both a full refund and a future remake: 16 out of 23 offered Provided upper management/ownership contact info: 21 out of 23 agreed CELESTINOS failed this basic test of customer care and flexibility. I would caution any patron to first inspect their food before leaving the restaurant and be prepared for the same response I received if you don't. Again, thanks for your time. Completely incompetent staff. Have come in 3 separate times and ordered gluten free pizza. First time it was burnt. Second time they burnt it didn't tell us, started a new one, brought it out an hour later and it was the wrong order, now tonight the final straw, ordered then waited 25 min before they came out and said they didnt have any gluten free crust and brushed it off basically saying oh well no dinner for you. We would have left had we been informed at the time of ordering. The cashier is especially rude saying it's not her job to know if they are out. I asked for corporate information and was given the managers card. They can't handle that simple of a task. The only reason they even got a 3rd chance was because my daughter just lost her grandmother and requested so she could play games. We will NEVER come back again and I will be sure nobody I know comes here. I will always put this review any and everywhere I can. Absolutely disgusted with this establishment. Needs to fire every employee and start over. Mind you there was only 2 other customers here. Lazy and slow and stupid. read more

Every time I come here, I place an order for pickup. It gives me a PROMISED ready time and 10/10 times they will not have your order ready on time. Fully expect to wait an additional 10-15 minutes (which makes no sense when they tell you it'll originally be ready in 15 minutes).
