Friend and I googled yarn shops in the area and Yarn on Front came up, so off we went to Dowagiac. This little shop is a gem. It was exactly what I was looking for. Unusual yarns from trusted yarn companies. And the owner (?) was very friendly and helpful. When I told her I did a lot of knitting for charity she directed me to the discount yarn bins. There was everything from affordable yarns for every day knitting to the "wow" yarns that one only buys for special people and occasions. Another customer came in and we joked about our yarn stashes (huge but always room for more). Very friendly people! I ended up buying more yarn than I planned just because I was so comfortable with the shop. The choices of needles was huge so I was able to get a circular knitting needle that I had been looking for. It's too bad I don't live in the area as I'd be back here a lot, buying more yarns to add to my stash. It's a lovely shop.

Yes, it does cut thru a watermelon really well. The staff is helpful but not pushy. They greet you with a smile and offer assistance. The absolute best part about Urban Garage = free gift wrap!!! And it's the loveliest paper, colors and presentation! What a beautiful touch of you're looking for a gift (and card!)- the ladies here do everything for you! I thought this was going to be all vintage, but there's a lot of women's clothing. I wish they had a wider range of sizes as they seem to target a younger crop top crowd. It also seems like they have absolutely every item out on the same floor, so some things don't feel special. The jewelry is very cool- a mixture of upcycled pieces and pieces clearly bought in bulk. They have a gorgeous stationery section and their candles are unique (and make great gifts!) I'm not sure they've yet found their niche as everything seems a bit everywhere. Candlesticks = $18 for a box of two, brass necklace = $48, lamp = $225.
