Yes, once again caught up with spring time chores, and out of certain screws and parts because I bought little prizes throughout the year that now need to be put together and used So off I go with my list of screws , paint, fertilizer, etc. I should have realized that the big box stores won't do anything above sell ( what ever they have- no accommodation) They won't cut a 4 " piece, even if I buy the whole piece, even if they have a saw What to do! I go to my ACE hardware store, should have known they always pull it off for me Well, they went far out of there way- FAR OUT. They smile. they might not have the answer to every question, but they do their best to look up answers. I moved here from Chicago and have decided this is my favirtue store...of any kind...anywhere. I'd give it less than 1 star if I could. While shopping for some plumbing fittings today one of the older guys who works there came over, no mask, closed everything I was looking through and helped another customer. Then asked me if I was done. I said apparently I need to wait he then continued to help the other customer and ignore the fact that I was standing right there waiting for him to finish. I placed all the other items I needed on the floor and left. I love supporting small businesses and have spent a large amount of money at this store in the past month while working on my boat. Forget the pre-order and pick-up; slowest in town. Went inside to cancel and rebuy. The cashier told me she couldn't help me even though I just asked to buy. Sent me to the hub. The young guy also asked if I received an email to pick up - when I said 'no' he said 'then you shouldn't be here.' An older gentleman came over, looked up my item on the computer - walked 20 feet away and got it off the wall. All while we waited for Jeff. Apparently online orders need to be printed by one person. When Jeff finally arrived he said "Oh, you had to wait a whole 3 hours?" Extremely rude and condescending. I said very little except thank you. He printed one piece of paper and I left with my order. Went here to have have a key made, but was told they didn't have that copy to cut it. That's okay, that wasn't the issue. We came in and they all just stood around staring at us. Nobody greeted or asked if there was something we needed. After telling us they couldn't help us, when we walked out, nobody said have a good day, bye nothing. Just mean mugged us till we left. Horrible customer service definitely since we were the only two people in the entire store. read more

If you need to have a can of paint mixed, one should be advised that this Ace Hardware no longer mixes paint cans that are brought to the store from home. When I brought in a can of latex paint Ken told me, rather abruptly, that they will no longer mix paint in cans that have already been opened and that previously opened cans explode in their power paint mixer. I had to go to Lowe's to have my paint mixed. I live in St. Joe part time and normally this store is great, but there are certain services that they cannot provide and one should call before heading to Ace. read more

I'm giving this store a one star(even tho I work there) because even tho the store is completely understaffed at this time in need of employees, the owner won't/ will not hire anymore help. Until this issue is resolved I recommend shoppers to not shop here. read more

"The Helpful Place"?? I think not. This is a review for this particular store, not Ace in general. I've been to other Ace Hardware stores over the years, but this one is consistently terrible. Why you ask? SERVICE! For some weird reason, the women here (not the men) are extremely rude. It's like they're PMSing all the time. They're always argumentative, obnoxious and act like customers are dirt. Unfortunately that's the closest hardware store to my old house so I had to go there more than once and it's always the same issue. I didn't leave a review before because I wasn't sure if it was this store or Ace in general. Now that I've had a chance to visit some other AH stores, I wanted to come back and let people know to avoid this one at all costs. Try True Value Hardware, Lowe's or Home Depot. Only come here if you want your eyes gouged out by crazy people. read more

Was in good spirits doing last minute Christmas gift shopping till Matt at check decided it was ok to harass me because I didn't realize my coupon was expired. First it is embarrassing to have not read the small print on coupon, but to be verbally harassed IS NOT good service. Will be driving the extra miles to go to different stories. read more

I went to this store twice and each time lots of people there dont have face masks on....I was assisted by an employee today who had NO face mask whatsoever....if your invincible then go to this store. As a senior I know better....I emailed ace hardware about this and received no reply. Older people beware! Martins and Meijers employees wear masks and comply with the Governors wishes to protect ourselves. Go there instead I recommend. read more

EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE I went in with an idea, but didn't know what I would need or if it would even work. An employee took the time to listen and try to help me out but suggested I should speak with the plumbing expert who would be in in a half hour - well worth the wait. . . He was so helpful, got me exactly what I needed at the cheapest cost (I told him, didn't want to spend a lot of money on the project). Every time I have gone into the niles road ace 99.9 % of the employees do not know how to wear a mask. It's really not hard, keep it covering your mouth and nose. THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE! This ace is my go to place. The staff is knowledgeable and so helpful. You don't have to track someone down for assistance, they ask you if you need help. Today I went in for something I needed to complete a project but wasn't sure exactly what would work. One of the employees spent at least 45 minutes helping me until he figured out what would do the trick. It doesn't get any better than that!! read more

I am giving this Ace Hardware a one star because I am unable to give them a zero star. The service is fine and fundamentally it is a very good store, pre-pandemic. Although they have a lot of signs instructing patrons as to how they should behave, they themselves do not follow their own instructions. I witnessed only one employee with a mask and social distancing was a joke. Although helpful, their sales staff will get within inches of you to aid you in finding an item. Home Depot, Lowes, True Value, and Harbor Freight are doing a much better job. Please avoid the store until they change their policies. I am also aware that they have been contacted by many people including me as to this problem. Apparently the safety of the community that supports them is not their concern. read more

It's pretty annoying to see 1 review that slams a place and offers little to back up anything that's said, especially in an immature review such as this mentioning "PMS". I've been there twice and found both experiences pleasant, and I dealt with the WOMEN both times, 3 of them, and one guy, who was rather helpful. Actually on the 2nd visit, they were out of a product, and called me within the hour to let me know 52 would be there the next day. My experience hasn't been detailed to say the least, but the one-star isn't warranted, in my opinion, based on the review itself. read more

OK, The first person to review the St. Joseph, MI ACE is way off base. I've used this store for many of my home improvement projects and I always find the employees to be curtious and helpful, The owner is often there, and so is a store manager. I believe if you do not receive the propper customer service you should say something to the manager perhaps via a phone call, then post a review on Yelp. read more

We go here once in a while because it's closer to home than Lowe's and we like the Ace brand in general. Also, it can sometimes be easier to pick up a common item in a smaller place. However, if there were another hardware store close to town, this Ace on Niles would go out of business. For years we (and others) have noted how unhappily and unpleasantly many of the employees behave. Not all, but many of the people who work here are surly and act like customers are an intrusion. Usually we just smile and let it slide (realizing it's their problem, not ours). But I'm writing about it tonight because... I just stopped by to get something specific, and was met with the poorest welcome ever. It was just about 10 minutes before closing time (on an accurately time-synced phone). I walked up to the door and was met with, "We're about to close, you've got three minutes." Okay, if you say so. Well, I love hardware stores and rarely leave without finding something I can "want," even if they don't have what I went there to buy. But this time, the mood was really wrong. After looking around carefully for the item I was seeking (that I had found there previously), I figured I'd cut my visit short instead of enjoying a browse. Walking toward the door I heard a woman's voice over the loudspeaker saying, "It's now 7 o'clock... [buy your stuff and leave]." So I tried to leave. The door was already locked. The fellow who had given me "3 minutes" came to let me out, explaining that the correct door was over here (the one I had just tried first and found locked). When I got back to my car, out of curiosity, I checked the actual time. It was 6:56. Weird thing is, I suspect if any of those employees read this note, they'll react defensively and miss the point. Better if they might recognize that a little less impatience and a little more sincere friendliness go a very long way toward making a business (not to mention a life) successful and rewarding in the ways that matter most. I gave this Ace two stars rather than one in honor of the few good folks there who have to put up with the attitudes of some of their coworkers. read more

I have always had very good service at this store for many years. They are very helpful in figuring out how to find just the right thing. My father, who is no longer with us, was an engineer (invented the dual action agitator for Whirlpool), and this was his favorite store. read more

this particular store has the feeling and selection of an old time hardware store ...they have as much if not more than the big box store in item selection in some departments, like if you want sand paper, or a particular type of finish, but often not in the giant contractor size ....but the reverse is often true at the big box stores .....they do have a wide selection of tools, but again, for the occasional user, rather than the contractor .....sometimes they are a bit understaffed ...but the staff is helpful, and pleasant.... ....I like it a lot because it IS smallish, and you can dash in and grab that item you need in a quick hurry .....but it's fun to wander the aisles looking at the cool hardware store stuff .... it was way more different kinds of stuff to clean almost anything you can think of than you find in the grocery or drug store.... all in all it carries a huge variety of so many different items that I rarely go in without finding what I am looking for ..... read more

I just went to this store at lunch to buy Valspar Paint during the Buy 2 Get 1 Free Sale. I need a base coat for paint to be tinted in a few weeks when I get possession of my new house. A man named Max in the paint department was one of the most rude people I have ever dealt with in a store. I believe it was pretty obvious that I really didn't know what I was doing - but he didn't offer to help or even ask what I was wanting to do. When I asked questions, I received one worded answers, along with a glare that told me I was being a pain in his --s. When I asked if I could return one base tint for another - as long as I had the receipt - when the time came - he shrugged and said "Lady, I'd have to ask the manager." It's at that point that I told him I was going to take my $200+ purchase to another store. I did buy some light bulbs and told the young man at the counter that they needed customer service training in their store. I am now going to go to another Ace Hardware where I know they are appreciative of their customers. read more

My boyfriend left his phone at Ace the other day. They not only kept his phone safe, but called us to let us know they had it. I didn't catch the manager's name, but we really appreciated it. He even had us verify that it was his phone. It's nice to know there are still people out there like that. read more
