Wow. After reading the Road Trip Review of Harding's, which netted only THREE miserable stars, I've…read moregot to ask the first reviewer: "WHAT does it take to net FIVE stars in your world?" Perhaps it was that the reviewer was too sun-burnt to give a better review since they had zero complaints. So, I'm going to counter that meager review with a glowing one. I have been shopping at this specific Harding's for 18 years. I run a construction company that carries me from Chicago to Chesterton to home, Sawyer. I pass a massive amount of grocery stores from Walmart, Aldi's, Whole Foods, and Al's. Yes, you can get price deals at quite a bit of those listed stores but you will NOT get the advertised "Friendly Market" service at many of them. I do shop Walmart for bulk items and with the money I save at a Super Store, I then turn it around and shop locally at Harding's in Bridgman. I shop at Harding's at least once a week. Their deli makes the World's BEST mini-meat loaves and stuffed baked potatoes possible. They don't have sales like Big Box Stores but will often have a 2 for 1 sale and many other cost saving ads. Produce is ALWAYS-ALWAYS the freshest that you can eat. When they don't carry an item like Bob's Cornmeal, I've asked the manager if they could bring it in and sure enough, they did! The staff appears to NEVER have a "bad day", as never, in 18 years of shopping there have I received a cold, snarky employee. I love how the deli is seasonally decorated; it makes shopping there so much fun. Every time that I can't find an item, like Carnation's Malted Milk Powder, an employee will stop the work that they are currently doing and take me right to the product (aisle #10). On Wednesday's it's Senior's Day, so you receive a 10% discount and the bagger...YES!, they still have baggers!...will ask you if you need help to your car. You can absolutely save money shopping here if you look at their sale ads and shop wisely vs. impulse shopping at bigger stores. Rarely is their Truth In Advertising, but "Harding's Friendly Market" couldn't be a more apt description of this fantastic grocery store. :D

I needed a place to grab…read morea huge amount of groceries (and some other random items), and the Yelp app took me to this spot. I wasn't sure what to expect, but this store/location is huge. It's like WalMart and a grocery store merged together to give you every single thing you might need while on a family vacation. I was grateful! We found everything we needed, from an umbrella stroller for my daughter, to a shower mat for my father-in-law, to lawn chairs, and more. Not to mention, they had every single item on my grocery list (that never happens!) Masks were strictly enforced and staff at the entrance made sure all guests had them on. They also have arrows that show you which way "traffic" should flow down the aisles. Everything was spread out so I never felt like I was too close to someone else. The produce was fresh, the deli had a ton of great food for the beach, and the staff was always willing to answer questions. This one-stop-shop definitely saved me a lot of time and energy while in Michigan!

Some cold options are also available but for me the draw has always been the panini sandwiches. Delicious bakery items are also available on top of the standard grocery store items. Bathrooms are clean, staff is friendly, and lots of choice options. Biggest down side is how far this location is from me, but the second downside is you do tend to pay a touch more than other spots closer to me. I'll come back, but maybe not for a bit.

I said that they needed to publish the correct price then. Nothing. Crickets. No adjustment and no apology. Barney's is only a couple miles, so I will just go there from now on. The butcher is kind enough to cut up the dog bones into three to four pieces for us. The elder, tall, stocky gentleman's work ethic is inspiring. Yes, the younger staff stocking stuff are a little shy on the customer service but that's understandable. And, the cashiers are salt of the earth. Harding's is my kinda place and reflective of the hardworking folk that make up Three Oaks.
