This is the way True Value stores used to be, with excellent stock on sometimes very high shelves. Saves me running to Michigan City for normal hardware items and often not so normal items. Also are always staffed with helpful and knowledgeable assistants if Mitch is busy. A real rarity these days. Even pet friendly, and my spoiled terrier knows which aisle has the rack of toys. The True Value in New Buffalo is a great store with wonderful employees. I manage multiple rental properties and need items very often. This store has just about anything that you would need. The staff is always very helpful and will show you where items are located if you ask. I saw a couple bad reviews on the YELP site. Those reviews are from an old True Value that closed a few years ago, NOT THE CURRENT STORE. Highly recommend this hardware store. read more

I've shopped here for many years and have always found the staff to be helpful. After today, I'm never going back. Out of three employees at the counter, one didn't have a mask, one had it around his neck and one had it over her mouth with her nose hanging out. I asked the employee without any mask why she wasn't wearing one and she said she had a "medical condition." So, I guess stupidity now counts as a medical condition? I have seen this woman outside smoking, so I'm going to assume whatever issue she has with not wearing a mask has nothing to do with a medical issue. If they don't care enough about their customers health, I really don't care to support them. read more

The store has an excellent selection for an operation of its size. And while obviously it's price points are not gonna match Lowes or Home Depot, consider that it is local, convenient, and that in my dealings with them contrary to some opinions I see in the other reviews, the people are nothing but helpful and generous with their time and Expertise. read more

The service and friendliness is the worst I have ever experienced anywhere. I live less than a mile from there and even if I know they would have the item, I refuse to step inside. They are unbelievably rude and make you feel extremly uncomfortable. read more
