I've been thinking about trying this place. I got a tip from a local who recommended this place. I'm usually not one for eating outside so this has been on the back burner for me as a place to try. This restaurant has a window where you order and another where you pick up the food. There are some tables under a roof for dining there or you can take it home. Simple menu but executed well. Pulled pork, chicken, brisket & ribs along with Mac and cheese, baked beans, roasted corn and cole slaw. I opted for the Mac & Cheese and the pulled pork sandwich minus the sauces. The pork was tasty and mine had no fat at all in it. The sandwich was heaping with meat. It was a delicious sandwich and the Mac was great too- a smoky subtle flavor. I opted for the fresh draft birch beer-a very special treat! Added bonus? The restaurant is tucked away on the countryside. Zinnia fields and sunflower fields are nearby too. Don't forget to duck into the farmers market for your fresh produce, jams and honey. Excellent food at a stunningly great price! I love places like this. read more

This place is an absolute gem! It's only open seasonal so make sure they're open before you go. The ribs are out of this world along with the sauce they use. Not to mention the fresh cut fries fried perfectly crispy golden. Pulled pork is excellent too. Large portions put this place over the top! Just a few miles from I81 it's worth a pit stop if passing through. We like to get take out and enjoy a nice picnic lunch at the nearby state parks. Rough Cut BBQ is a hidden gem! It is counter service with ample covered seating & some picnic benches not covered. It is connected to a small farmers market. The views are beautiful. I had the pulled pork platter (it actually is served as a sandwich, but it is considered a platter since it comes with two sides), French fries, green beans, added on a side of Mac n cheese, and a cup of white birch beer. The food was delicious and the portion was huge for the price. I was able to get two meals out of it! The white birch beer is on tap & it was a generous sized cup. Refills are $1.00. The service was friendly & fast. The woman at the counter advised they are usually open May through October. I'm excited to take my husband here soon! read more

I like it in the combination so you get a little bit of pork and a little bit of brisket. Something you have to try for not from the area is the draft Birch beer. YOU can't beat this place for value.The pork bbq sandwich is the best I've had up north.It's North Carolina style with a little heat.The fries,cole slaw and baked beans are top notch.There is no indoor seating as this is a seasonal place.I would love to see Rough Cut become a year round business. read more

What a fortunate find. We were looking for a place to meet friends off 81 and chose this one. Everything is outside. Port a John and outside sink. Food is a winner. Ate here for the first time today. We ordered ahead of time and picked up a few hours later. We were about a half hour late picking up and when we pulled in they were already sold out so thank goodness we ordered earlier! When we got to the window the staff was very kind to us even though we were later than expected. Our food was ready in a few mins and we took it home to eat. It was AMAZING!!!! By far the best BBQ I HAVE EVER HAD! I would recommend this to anybody be who has an appreciation for great food. Prices were fair and portions were huge. I can't wait to come again. Really an excellent find. Great BBQ the pork is excellent the beef is excellent and the ribs are really good. I'm not a rib eater but I love their ribs. Their french fries are perhaps the tastiest I've ever had. They have draft Birch Beer on draft which is self-serve and you must try. read more

Based on the wonderful reviews that this bbq placed has received, my wife and I decided to try their half rack of rib platter. The ribs may well have been the worst I have ever had. They were burnt excessively and had almost zero flavor. Yes there was a cayenne pepper flavor but that was all. The French fries and coleslaw were just ok. Perhaps we are spoiled by some of the geat ribs that we have eaten in the South, but this place doesn't even come close. read more
