Fantastic experience at Union Public House. This is a nice bar and restaurant in the cutest neighborhood. I was able to make a reservation and seat outside with my pup and a few friends. We started with the poutine, while good the cheese was lacking flavor the gravy was savory! The Benedict while a special was delicious. The chimichurri and bacon was a great addition to the sweet potato cake and pork. I also got the wild mushroom soup that was on special and a really enjoyed it. It was creamy and herbaceous. The toast points were a great addition to the soup. Service was friendly and attentive! They had an extensive drink menu including homemade kombucha and cocktails. Food was excellent, but we felt like outsiders from the minute we stepped inside. We sat at one table, which was admittedly larger than our needs, and told to move to another table. Took the train to Jim Thorpe and did the 20 minute walk to UPH. The place is small, looks like a run of the mill bar that they threw tables into. Prices aren't bad though they do nickel and dime you. For instance fries don't come with burger and if you want to add onions it's $.50. I had the patty melt which came with mushrooms on it. The beef patty was seasoned really well and there was plenty of cheese. It was good. Service was good. Lunch for 3 was $45 before tip, no apps, 1 beer and the rest drinking water. My boy got the poutine cheesesteak. He said it just tasted like gravy. For $15 the portion on this thing was very small and it didn't come with fries. The cauliflower was very oily and extremely saucy, and the vegan potstickers seemed like they were premade and frozen. The pierogies were ok. Everything was just ok. No where does it state that this establishment is CASH ONLY. So for a $3 fee you can use the ATM inside to retrieve cash for payment. I stumbled upon this dive bar with my boyfriend while visiting Jim Thorpe. To my delight I was very pleasantly surprised. Not much to look at inside, but the friendly staff especially Bailey, Tiffany,and Gary along with their delicious food which is reasonably priced make this place a gem. Their prices are reasonable because THIS PLACE ONLY ACCEPTS CASH.) We sat at the bar and we started with a signature cocktail. They made a great Blueberry, Lavender Cocktail. When you squeeze lemon in it, it turned purple. UPH has a great selection of Draft Beers, IPA's, Wheats and Hefes and Stouts and Porters. For starters I chose their Deviled Eggs 3 Ways. These deviled eggs are rich and creamy and melt in your mouth. Each one was topped with something different. I could've eaten a dozen of these. I also ordered their Hot Raspberry Wing to share. These wings were cooked perfectly, and that raspberry sauce was out of this world. On the recommendation of bartender Bailey, for my entree I went with their Boursin Burger which had Boursin Cheese and Roasted Red Peppers and Onions on top with a side of Broccoli and Roasted Peppers and Onions. My Boursin burger was very good. The meat was fresh and cooked perfectly med- rare. My bf chose Smoked Turkey BLT Sandwich. The Turkey was moist and juicy and you could see it was sliced fresh. ( he ate half in the picture.) I spoke to several locals at the bar and they were all so friendly and gave great advice. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The drinks are very good and creative and the food was wonderful, so much so we decided to come back the next night and get a big plateful of their Hot Raspberry Wings. They are proud to be the only dive bar in Jim Thorpe and their menu is full of great American options including gluten free and vegan! They have an awesome beer list with some local brews and a full bar menu. Leashed dogs are allowed on their outdoor patio that is fully covered on top and doggie water bowls are available. Love it! Friends highly recommended it after a prior visit to Jim Thorpe and it definitely lives up the the hype! It's a local joint with a nice relaxed casual vibe. Excellent entrees and apps and plenty of beer choices to satisfy everyone. Service is fast and friendly. Our server checked on us just enough to ensure our drinks never emptied. I'd go as far as saying it's a much better experience than our visit to Moya which is highly rated and recommended by many. This a hidden gem definitely worth checking out next time you're nearby. Came to Jim Thorpe for the weekend with my family and wound up ordering takeout from Union Publick House both nights. This bar is advertised as a dive bar in Jim Thorpe, which it is- so my expectations and review are based on their own identity. On Friday night, we stopped for a few drinks when picking up our food- the bartender was friendly, reminded us our food was done, and the drinks are VERY reasonably priced. Margaritas are even on happy hour, which was impressive for a Friday night. When we came back on Saturday, we also were met with friendly service and great drinks! They sell stickers for $1, which I also found hilarious. Pros: great bar food, prices are reasonable, and friendly service Cons: cash only establishment- would recommend checking your food order as our second night a few items (mainly condiments ordered) were missing. Typically, this would not be a big deal- but since we were at an air bnb, it would've been nice to have with our food. Overall, I highly enjoyed this bar and would consider it a definite step up from usual dive bars. Their straws are also pasta, which I thought was super unique. read more

They were busy and clearly knew it would be slow, but did not communicate at all barely checked in with us. We were in the area to visit Jim Thorpe from Florida and we ate at this place twice the food was so good and the service was excellent. I ordered off of the Oktoberfest menu with had three different kinds of sausages and two different kinds of sauerkraut and spratzel. Very tasty and the service was excellent. This is my kind of bar. Dim lights. Divey. The menu is big with lots to choose from and the prices are very very reasonable. We spent a few hours here on a Saturday prior to dinner. We arrived when it opened and were the only ones there. Before long it was packed with people constantly coming in. They had a really nice beer list and the bartenders were both kind and conversed with us a lot prior to it getting too busy. The wings weren't my style, but I know a lot of people enjoy big wings (I like smaller crispier wings). The couple next to us ordered burgers and they looked great. The pierogi I ordered were $4 for 4 and were filled with potato. I also really loved the sour I got which was brewed in Buffalo NY (Thin Man - I'm A Winner). Loved this place. Great personalities work here, adding to the personality of the place itself. We sat at the Chess set table all the way in the back. Played half a game until the food came... it was nice. I had a mixed berry alcoholic slushy. Very sour but fun to drink and love the results! Wife had some kind of hibiscus cocktail that I thought tasted like what I imagine to be toilet water with food coloring, but she liked it, indeed! Needless to say, my daughter enjoyed her Ginger Ale. ;) Man, the nachos with pulled pork were great, and we also loved the Artichoke Spinach Dip. Even the chips are fantastic. And my mild Buffalo wings were ace. They had a slight crispness on the outside, the rest was juicy and tender and the flavor was terrific. If I lived around here, I'd totally be a regular. My wife liked her fish tacos, though she said she might have preferred a different fish that didn't taste so "strongly." But then again, she liked that hibiscus toilet water crap, so you should just try it for yourself methinks. My daughter got the pulled pork on a roll, and she's a budding vegan but she loved it! Stopped in for dinner on a Thursday night with my 7 year old son and husband, as we were staying in a nearby airbnb. Drinks- cider mules, lemonade. Everyone enjoyed. Starter- crab dip w/tortilla chips- really good way to start your meal. There weren't any leftovers. Dinner- bar pizza for the little guy, which is a whole small pie, plain pizza. He was able to eat 2/8 slices, and we boxed up the rest. They said it comes frozen before they bake it, which was good enough for him. I ordered a $28 salmon dish and my salmon was dry, even after asking for rare, the broccoli was somehow not steamed but maybe broiled with something that made it dry and bitter. My husband had seafood stew that was mostly potatoes and they somehow served it almost cold, then took it back and it was finally warm. The entire place is ultra dark. Not for outsiders, which is sad considering TripAdvisor described this place as warm and welcoming. I walked in with my partner, and the hostess was nasty with me when I asked for a table. She told me to sit outside, upon which there were no tables. I let her know, and sat down inside. She proceeded to ignore me and i overheard her referencing us to the bartender in a discriminatory fashion. I really recommend the hot raspberry wings, they were really spicy and flavorful. Their in house kombucha was also really good, the night I went it was vanilla mango and I almost went back just for the kombucha. The salsa is on point but the chips are a little disappointing. Our server said the first chips we had were some new ones they were trying, but the problem was they were really chewy. He brought us some of their other chips and those were okay, but they really need a better chip to pair with that salsa. The seafood chowder was fairly disappointing. It was mostly potatoes and only a few bits of fish. The seasoning, while good, was something I would expect on red meats and didn't pair well with the fish, at least for me. read more

The chicken wings are an attraction in and of itself. I am a self proclaimed Wing King and these wings are WINGING! Hot raspberry wings are bomb as are the OG original. First time eating here with a table 8 of us. Food came out all about the same time which was nice. Place was pretty crowded however its wasn't that loud so you could have a conversation. This isn't a super fancy place but its not a hole in the wall either. Overall the food was really good from the burgers to the shrimp and grits to the salmon all good. My husband took me here for Mother's Day today, so maybe the service and food we received is not the norm. They did appear to be busy, but we had 3:30 reservations. The bartender, our waitress, was not friendly. She did not introduce herself. She did not wish me a happy Mother's Day. She did not even say hello when she walked over. She hardly came to our table to check in. Our appetizers took nearly a half hour to be brought out. Food was mediocre at best. Spinach and artichoke dip was cold, chunky and overall strange. Sweet Thai Chili sauce was .. clear? Waitress did not even acknowledge my two year old daughter - at all. Did not bring her utensils or plates. Did not ask what she would be drinking or eating.. just acted as if she did not exist. Really put a damper on the whole day. First and last visit for us unfortunately. The ratings did not mislead! We visited Jim Thorpe for the day on the train and had to walk 20 minutes to get here. The food was delicious and there were many vegetarian and vegan options.
