I come to this restaurant almost every Sunday with family for breakfast. Today for the second time my waitress took a long time to bring us our drinks and our order was wrong. I ordered their special omelette of the day with no home fries and my family member ordered an everything bagel with sausage patty, avocad, tomat, and cheese. The family member was missing sausage patty. The server was Jen I was in this restaurant from 10 am until 11am. I've been searching for some time for a place just like this! Happy to have found it. Took a ride recently for breakfast, and everything was right on point here. Food was delicious, service was top notch, we were asked several times if we needed anything else, coffee was great too!! My husband ordered the big breakfast... I had to help a little and he still had leftovers! I had the Benedict with potatoes , and it was good with the exception of my English muffin being well done which just made it harder to cut. Second time visitor, shouldve not given them a second chance. First time was 9 years ago when I moved to the area, it wasn't the worst food nut it was not worth the money (and it's pretty cheap), the veggies where canned and the food had been cooked probably 2 days prior. This second time was takeout. Oh boy I wish I had gone to mascdonals. We ordered the tuna melt that had wet soggy toast, turkey club, again soggy bread and the driest nastiest turkey I've ever eaten, it was like it was left in an open container in a fridge, gross. We also had the crab corn chowder, salty salty salty. The boom boom shrimp poboy wasn't bad, you getvone star for that one. I'm never eating from them again, I get that the food is cheap, but come on! Throwing half of it in the trash not so cheap. Plan your trip on Rt 80 so you're near Tom's Kitchen when you're hungry. A real find. Great food, great service, great prices. Clean. Just 2 short miles off Rt. 80 at mile marker 256. Driving out, I stopped for lunch. I liked it so much I got dinner on the drive back. Brought home leftovers. Special recognition for the Sunday dinner special. 2 main course servings, And a potato, And macaroni salad, And corn salad. Not one choice of three. All Three. The very welcoming server told me "We want to make sure you get your $13 dollars' worth." $13 bucks? For all that? Holy smokes I wish I lived closer I'd eat there all the time. The pulled pork was tender and delicious. Likewise the barbecued ribs. Make sure to save a little room for dessert. The wet bottom shoo-fly pie will melt in your mouth. Stopped in here with a group of friends on a Saturday morning for breakfast. Tom's Kitchen is directly off of Route 93 across from Gould's ShurSave, with a large sign that's very visible. Interior is simple with a good amount of seating, there is a section of the restaurant that can be cordoned off that was not being used. Menu is reasonably extensive for breakfast with French toast, Omelets, Pancakes, and other items. Everyone ordered something different and it came in a reasonable amount of time. Went with a "Big Breakfast" of French Toast, Scrambled Eggs, Potatoes, Toast, and all Bacon. All bacon was a heaping pile of Bacon, the French toast was tasty, Potatoes were cubed, and the only part lacking was I found the two Eggs a little stingy. The platter came with enough food I could not finish the Toast. Checkout was at the register, and my overall experience was pleasant. If you can't leave full from here, you might have done something wrong. read more

I had a Philly Cheesesteak with their homemade chips, and my husband ordered the open faced roast beef with mashed potatoes. My lunch was good. The meat was tender and lean. The chips were nicely seasoned and crisp. My husband's meal was good and had real mashed potatoes. If I lived nearby, we'd eat there again. read more

We entered into Tom's kitchen and felt like we were at a retirement home. The decor was appalling. We were seated and met by a server who spoke coldly to us and did not check on us throughout our meal. My friend is a vegetarian (he is Indian). He ordered eggplant Parmesan. It was extremely greasy, and worse yet the meal was supposed to come with garlic bread and a salad. He got a heckin' bag salad and wonder bread with butter. I ordered a meatball sub. It was fair, but it wasn't better than anything served in a school cafeteria. My other friend ordered a grilled cheese and it was so bad she puked it up just a few hours later. We were in the area for a wedding and decided to go to Tom's after finding positive reviews. We had a party of 2 and a half :) . My 7 year old daughter had provided feedback of 2 stars. Here is why: My daughter asked for fresh strawberries on her kids French toast. The Waitress said sure , then asked if she wanted whipped cream on top. My daughters eyes lit up and responded yes please. The French toast showed up with no whip cream and a not so fresh strawberries, but a strawberry glaze. She didn't finish her fresh toast because the glaze made the bread extremely soggy. On my order - I ordered a side of bacon well done. I get that my version of well done and their version may be different , but the bacon was limp and soggy. I had to send it back. We also asked for Rye bread dry ( butter on the side ) Rye bread showed up buttered. It's important to note the the waitress acknowledged our special requests. I'm not a picky person by all means. I decided to provide our experience once I entered the rest room. The urinals we're both out of order. When I was in the rest room , I over heard a Regular say " wow these have been out of order for months! The toilet seat was also pretty disgusting and starting to come apart. Toms kitchen posts specials in newspaper for any burger on their menu on a thursday for 4.99, but when you call for a takeout order suddenly the price is changed and an upcharge is added. Same goes for the steak and lobster special. My family has been ordering the burgers past few weeks for 4.99 then when ordering last night was told the burgers were two dollars more. Same thing with steak and lobster special Paying advertised price of 13.50 past few weeks then all,of a sudden were told the price of dinner is 15.50 for takeout!why because you had to put it in A container?? When i questioned why increase in price for burgers , snotty helen gave me attitude very unprofessional!stated they were told by boss they were ringing it up wrong. Maybe management needs to train staff better and stop advertising one price and then charging more for takeout! We try to give the small restaurants business because of covid we know they are struggling. We will take our business elsewhere because of how rudely we were treated . It's drab and nothing about it is aesthetically appealing. * I had the pizza steak sandwich, which I will say wasn't bad. For a side, I had mashed potatoes and gravy, both were bland and didn't care to finish them. * Two of the other people had spaghetti, one of them with grilled chicken and one with breaded chicken. I tried a decent size piece of the breaded chicken and it was just terrible. It was compressed, stiff and if I wasn't told that it was breaded, I wouldn't have guessed it. I don't recommend it. I didn't try the grilled chicken, but it actually looked decent. It did not look anything close to the breaded. It looked juicy and tender. * Our last person had a burger. It was fine and decent size. Nothing about it stood out. * Service: The waitress was wonderful, polite and very nice. Tom's Kitchen promotes "Homemade food at its best." I'm sorry to say that I didn't find anything "homemade" about it at all. I found the food to be more institutional than homemade. A dinner is a dinner is a dinner and I always go to them with low expectations regardless of what "their" claim to fame is. However, this place, in my honest opinion really doesn't deserve some of the negative reviews it has received. First of all I'm going to start with the service. The staff were curious, friendly and the speed of delivery was pretty darn good. For me that means a lot. I could have the best food served, but if it's cold and served by a nasty server - it's going down! So - the service here starts them off on the right foot. Also - the decor - I know some might complain about it, but really - it is what it is and it was clean. In fact the entire place seemed pretty clean to me. If I start writing reviews based on horrible decor - well - I'm sorry - not that important to me. But if you care about that stuff - don't go here as it does appear dated! Now that I've stated that service was good and place was clean - let's get on to some other important information. Parking was very ample, selection was good, prices were reasonable and there was plenty of seating spaces - no wait! Finally, there is the food - typical dinner food. I've eaten at what seems like 100's of dinners in my travels and this one actually come out a bit ahead of average - thus the 4 star rating. Is my home cooking better, yes - but it's because I cook it exactly how I want it and not for other people. I think I recall reading a review about this place and the food is bland - where some places make the food really tasty with too much salt - this place doesn't over salt anything and allows you to add salt and pepper to your taste, which is a really good choice on their part. Too many dinners increase the flavor of dinner food with salt - while some might like it and not realize the trick - I much prefer natural tasting food! Tom's Kitchen is a good, solid diner. You definitely get bang for your buck, and the service is typically on point. The main thing is that you need to be satisfied with "comfort foods" to have a good experience at this restaurant. Things like the California cheeseburger and meatloaf platter are safe bets. You might be disappointed, however, if you try to get too fancy. And their salads are pretty lackluster. I personally recommend diner staples like coleslaw and pickled beets for sides. Also, their fresh-brewed iced tea is better than average. As far as the atmosphere and clientele are concerned, yes, the place is a bit dated on both accounts. It's a matter of preference, though. I like the wide open layout of the restaurant. Lastly, you probably won't be satisfied with Tom's if you are a vegan or hard-core food snob. But in that case, you'll want to leave the Hazleton area altogether. read more

I probably would have rated it even lower if my friend didn't like her food so much. Maybe I made poor choices? I'm a huge reuben fan...and I mean huge and this just fell so short of my expectations, that I would venture to say it was the worst reuben that I ever had. The fries cheese sauce and gravy were good, but I wouldn't go back for that. This place is a great example of Americana Helen, our waitress was pleasant and efficient. When asked, she described the selections and offered suggestions. ( if you like kielbasa, you should try it) Three of us ordered a variety of breakfast meals. All of us received the correct orders, quick and hot. I can't understand the issues with the decor. Stopped at restaurant on a Sunday at approximately at 12:10 pm craving a good breakfast only to find out that they stopped serving breakfast at 12. Most diners serve breakfast either all day or at least till 1pm especially on a weekend in case you attend church. After speaking highly of their breakfast menu I was very disappointed that they could not accommodate us and make an exception for the sake of ten minutes. Oh well. Go figure. It's nice to be independent. We then proceeded to Perkins and had a great breakfast and the parking lot was full compared to Tom's where there was about 7 cars.
