There's a nice trail that my wife and I walked while we were visiting Detroit. It has a lot to offer with the bridges that we walked across over the water in the nice river that bounded it that we got to take pictures of and really had a good time I definitely recommend

Nice trails in the middle of a city. You can walk all the way to UM campus and Henry Ford mansion. Better atmosphere during summer and fall. By the way there are quite a bit of trash build up on the banks of the river and beginning of the trails, Dearborn is close to Detroit after all

Sign at the entrance near Andiamo. If you make it to Hines Drive, then you've gone two miles.

The investment really shows -- from the roads and landscaping to the public spaces along the water. It's one of the best places in Detroit to relax, walk, or ride, and the bike paths are perfect whether you're on a regular bike, e-bike, scooter, or just cruising around the island. The views of the Detroit River and skyline make it feel like a completely different environment from the city only minutes away.

But did you know Rouge Park is actually the largest green space in the city and is larger than Belle Isle, Campus Martius, Capitol Park, Grand Circus, and Hart Plaza COMBINED? It's 1300 ACRES. That's a lot of trees, ya dig? But that's not all they've got. They have 7 miles of paved trails (and a 3 mile mountain biking trail loop) and there are actually a ton of amenities here beyond trails. They've got an archery range, in the summertime there are public pools, and there's even an model plane airfield where you can launch your own planes or watch the hobbyists take to the skies on the weekends. D-town farm is also on the property if you wanted to check out their organic urban farm and an independently operated golf course is also found there. It's such a wide expanse that some areas are less manicured than others but overall it's such an amazing resource that we should spend more time supporting.

Weekends are a blast, there are groups of people cycling, riding mini-bikes (try THAT in New York) flying model airplanes, BBQing and yes hooking up (the gay and straight variety) This is an extremely friendly park, weather you are gay or straight, black or white, young or old. There is usually a hip-hop/raggae music tent @ Spinoza and Joy....

If you are renting gear they get you fitted for a backpack and show you how to setup the tent. They go over and distribute group gear, and food, and help you learn how to pack your bag! If you've never backpacked before this is an amazing way to try it without having to buy all the gear! Plus they have a very comprehensive packing list so you know you'll have what you need out on the trail. Days 1-5: We traveled to the island by ferry and began our adventure. We hiked around 4 miles most days with one long day that we hiked around 8 miles. The trails on island are gorgeous and rugged. There was so much wildlife to see including: foxes, beavers, loons, cranes, frogs, bald eagles, and even a wolf! In the mornings we were greeted in the mornings by beautiful sunrises and at night with amazing views of the milky way. I honestly can say I wish the trip was longer! If you have ever been even curious about backpacking I can't recommend PackRatz Adventures' trips enough. Erin and the other guides were super knowledgable and just genuinely great people.
