I have been a customer of Franchini Plumbing for about 18 years. We were introduced to the Father…read more& Son business during a major remodeling project in our home. We were pleased enough with their quality of work, honesty, and reasonableness in pricing that we've continued to call upon them ever since as a situation arose. Our most recent need for service was to replace a hot water heater that I noticed was leaking on Christmas Eve. A call to Dave Franchini in the early morning of Boxing Day and he was able to come to the house in about an hour to examine the problem. His offer to replace the heater that very day was like receiving an enormous Boxing Day gift. Five hours later we had a new power vented gas hot water heater fully operational at a very reasonable price. There should be no doubt that I wholeheartedly recommend Franchini Plumbing. Please note that I've submitted updated information to Yelp to reflect that Dave's father, Marino, has retired, so the name, address, and phone number have changed to reflect Dave Franchini as the sole owner. Franchini Plumbing and Heating is located at 50 Longwood Dr. in Clifton Park, NY and Dave can be reached at (518) 858-6826.

Empire State Plumbing - Our technician Dan installed this combi boiler. It came out very nice!

Empire plumbing was not so good. I won't have them back for any future work and cannot recommend…read more I called to get an estimate, after doing extensive research on my issue/problem. The work I was requesting was an exact match for a job pictured on their website in the gallery of photos and in the 'before and after' section. I had spoken to another company and received a verbal estimate prior to calling empire. I asked for an estimate for a well pressure tank replacement, and knew that includes the pressure switch and T "pack". Was told that there would be a $90 dollar "dispatch/estimate" fee and they could fit me in at the end of the week. I questioned why I needed to pay for an estimate when I knew the exact problem, and solution and offered to send pictures of the job. I also mentioned it was close to the same exact thing (job) shown on their website. The office person explained that every job is different and they, the technician/plumber, needed to put eyes on it for any quote and that costs the fee. I had also asked if I went ahead with the work, would the estimate fee be applied to the work, and I was shocked to hear the response of no.I thought it was strange but scheduled the visit, because I basically didn't have water and I already had one other quote. I was told the tech would be there between 730-830 on the day at the end of the week. I asked if they would call before arrival and was told yes. The following day, it didn't sit right with me that I was paying for an estimate when i knew exactly what I needed, so I called back to ask. I also asked if the tech would be bringing the parts (new tank) with him so he would come prepared in order to reduce the time spent if I went ahead with the work. Keep in mind, my house would have no water during the installation / tank replacement. I also asked what brand tank they use. The person that I spoke with was the same that booked my appointment, She said she would ask both questions and get back to me. she didn't call back the next day, so I gave it until the following day which was the day before the appointment. She said they couldn't waive the estimate fee but if I went with the work and since I was a new customer, they could try to do something. I woke up on the morning of the appointment, earlier than I normally do for work, had the area all cleaned and cleared the night prior and put my pets away close to their arrival time. I had gotten a text at 1 in the morning saying they were on their way? Time was ticking and 730 passed. I got a call from the office saying the tech was sent on an emergency call and so my appointment was bumped back to 10-12 arrival now, instead of the 730-830. So I immediately asked? I won't have to pay for the estimate, right? Being that my appointment got post-poned, I already knew the job, and that I had taken time off from work and had pets for this appointment that was made and confirmed early in the week. She agreed that if I went with them for the job, then they would ask the tech to waive the estimate fee. I got a text at 1053 saying 'on the way' and so I started getting ready again, for the 11-12 arrival. After 45 mins, still no arrival so I called the office. I figured that the text saying on the way, meant they were on the way, or close. I was told they were coming from previous job in Hudson. Okay fine but Hudson is 45 mins from where I live and it had been close to an hour since I got the text. Text was at 10:53 am saying on way. I called into office around 1135. They showed up at 12:17, 1 hour and 24 minutes after the "on the way" text AND late past the arrival window time for the 2nd time after the original postponement. The tech apologized and explained he worked the overnight shift the night before and explained why I got the "on the way" text the night before at 1 am. He had clicked the wrong job the night before. Okay fine. Mistakes happen. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt and start fresh & positive. I explained symptoms and immediately said he didn't need to see it (examples or symptoms) that he would go to truck to write estimate. Came back a short time later with a fixed price. The price was high and wasn't based on hours of labor, and instead was a "fixed price" based on the job. Now that is exactly what I asked for over the phone and the office said they spoke to plumber, office manager, and owner and to tell me they can't do that. Strike 2 or 3 or 4... I had no water, I asked what tank brand they use and he said it varies they couldn't tell me. I had them do the work and it took many many hours, but not of work, of mostly waiting & standing around. They left and left me with 3 new problems. I pointed out the one I saw during the "checkout" and he said he didn't work there or touch that so it wasn't part of the work or responsibility and it absolutely 100% was. I wasted a day off from work and spent hard earned money and am unsatisfied. The next day, no hot water.

I will start by saying James Leckonby has no moral integrity. I gave James 2 stars because he does…read moreknow how to put pipes together. However! I would not recommend James for any work beyond simple plumbing. Let me explain. Prior to Christmas, 2024 the water coil in our furnace burst shortly after having the furnace serviced (James did not do the service) , leaving our home without hot water and heat. We started seeking recommendations. An acquaintance of ours said he knew James and gave us James' phone number. I called and spoke with James. James came to our home, assessed the situation, and recommended a combi unit. Combi: meaning a combination of heat and hot water. James said he was familiar with combi's and had installed them for others. James prepared a quote to remove the old furnace and install a replacement. My wife and I thought the quote was too high ($12,000), but we felt having no heat or hot water and the fact that it was Christmas and with the weather below freezing we had no choice but to accept. We were afraid not starting the work immediately would cause our pipes to freeze. We signed the work agreement 12/19/2024. James hired two workers to remove the old furnace. Due to the old furnaces weight (cast iron) they decided to break it apart in the basement. In doing so, they left residue on the floor and the steps leading outside that will not cleanup with regular cleaning products. The floor and steps are now covered with cardboard. James installed the combi unit, but could not get it to run. James spent hour after hour trying to get the combi to fire up. Christmas came and went. We had no hot water or heat since mid -December. Due to the cold we were forced to purchase portable heaters to keep the pipes from freezing. On 12/27/24 we called National Grid and asked if they would check their gas feed. A service tech came and verified National Grids gas line was okay. The tech then asked James to check the gas valve in the basement that James installed. When James disconnected the gas line we found the valve was clogged with pipe dope. After removing the pipe dope and reassembling the gas line the combi was able to fire up. Forward , to spring 2025. The combi unit started to get occasional combustion errors. At the time National Grid had been working on the gas lines in the neighborhood. For that reason we considered their gas line work was causing air in the lines, thus the combustion errors. After National Grid completed the gas line work in September the occasional combustion errors continued. It was early October 1 when I contacted James Leckonby to let him know that the the combi was getting occasional combustion 003 errors. I told James they were occasional and we were able to reset the error code when necessary. I said he didn't have to rush over, but that I would like him to check it out in the next few weeks. We had an agreement. On October 16 I called James to let him know that the combi was getting 003 errors constantly and that we had no heat. James became a no show. He would make up excuses why he wasn't available. One time (October 30) telling me , "You"re not my only customer". Finally November 3 James shows up after 8:00p.m. The same time when the combi manufacturers Help Center closed for the day. It was quite obvious James had no idea how to trouble shoot or program the combi. At one point he disconnected a part without first shutting the water off and draining the unit, which resulted in water gushing all over. Well! That night was a bust, but James promised to return early the next day so he would be able to use the manufacturers Help Center. We had previously informed James that my wife had emergency surgery the week before and that I was going to have hip replacement surgery November 7. Therefore, we would not be able to continue to run down the basement to reset the combi. Here we are. As of this writing November 28, James has not returned, has not called and has not responded to text messages.

When we started the project and were shopping around getting quotes, Caleb did a few things to stand out from the rest. 1) He was cuteous and on time (super easy to do, but not everyone we met checked this simple box) 2) He offered ideas and suggestions that we never would have come up with ourselves 3) He made it clear all his work would be up to code and that they don't skip steps 4) They did 90% of the work themselves (a team came for the carpets) 5) He quickly followed up with a clear digital quote with everthing spelled out so we could make adjustments where needed. We ended up paying slightly over estimate after learning we needed an extension for our electrical box. We didn't encounter many delays, I think the biggest was the first coat of paint. It didn't dry overnight, so that slowed down the next day. Throughout the build, they went above and beyond in a number of ways: - Seeding (and re-seeing), watering and even weeding the lawn - Caleb took us out to shop for slabs giving lots of great input and advice (and the kids got to play with some chickens at the site!). - They gave us detailed breakdowns of pros/cons when choosing all materials / vanitey / outlets / vents / etc (I would assume something like this was common, but after showing family the basement, we have heard how their contractors never gave any input or advice on any decisions). - They have their own dumpster for the materials but it was also extremely helpful to get rid of junk from our basement We have a list of things we plan to do in the future both inside and outside, and we are 100% going to Caleb. If he isn't available, we will wait until he is.
