Meh. I was severely disappointed with the food here. I should have read more on what this place actually is, but I was looking for Mediterranean food for lunch and saw this place nearby with great ratings, and gave it a try. First of all, it's not really Mediterranean. It's a Chipotle with a Mediterranean twist, at best. I got their rice plate with chicken, tomato cucumber salad, hummus, and feta cheese. Overall, the feta cheese and pita bread were the only two items I would get again. The chicken was tough and not very flavorful, the hummus tasted store bought and didn't have the olive oil and spices on top, and the salad was bland and unflavorful. I ate about half the plate and threw the rest out, it just isn't worth it to choke down mediocre food. The idea is great, but the food wasn't. After a nice afternoon at the art institute we strolled over to Roti for a quick lunch. I'm pretty sure I've actually been to this location at least one other time. The restaurant is very clean, has a nice open seating plan with plenty of seats available. A nice contemporary look with good music playing in the background at a reasonable volume. The staff is very friendly and helpful with suggestions. I had chicken with hummus, eggplant, and couscous. The food was fresh and flavorful and served with a warm piece of pita bread. I had a side of falafel with the yogurt sauce as well and it was equally as delicious. If you love Greek food and love Chipotle, this place is the perfect combo. Roti is an approachable, quick form of Mediterranean food that all palates will like. They offer 3 selections: a salad, a Mediterranean plate and a sandwich as well as some sides. I usually opt for the Mediterranean plate in which you get rice, meat and 3 sides as well as a pita. The chicken at Roti is incredibly flavorful and the steak also looks pretty good. If you are a vegetarian there are plenty of options. Be sure to try the babaganoush(sp) and the slaw and the hot sauce. Everything is made fresh and is pretty healthy depending on what you choose. I'm all for customized food, and Roti does a pretty good job. The line moves quickly, the pitas are fresh and the portions are VERY generous. I admit I wasn't a huge fan when I tried the salmon, but now I have my order down- Roti Chicken salad with red pepper aioli and the spicy sauce. I get all the salad toppings except the cous cous (the big kernals freak me out) and the tomato-based eggplant is one of my favorites. This is everything you could ask for in a salad: healthy, a variety of flavors and textures, and a whole lot of volume. Did I mention you can calculate the calories online? Nice to know what your dealing with. I still think Naf Naf (on Michigan) is has slight advantage, but Roti is a close second. I have been here a few times and I really enjoy eating here! I have been the first person in the door and probably the last person in the door and the staff are always upbeat and friendly. The food has always tasted fresh and delicious! I have had the rice plates and the falafel. I am kind of partial to their eggplant. Right now I seem to be stuck ordering Sultan Sandwiches, it's on pita with roti chichen, spicy sauce, hummus, cabbage and tomato onion stuff. I really like it a lot, I may net describe it on a level equal to my enjoyment and this may account for why Roti has not invited me to write their menu blurbs! Last evening I was there for a Sultan Sandwich and they were out of pita..... which is not the tragedy you would imagine! Exactly the same concept as Chipotle---choose your Base (pita pocket or break wrap, salad, or plate), choose your "Meat" (they have falafel or vegetables for vegetarians! wooh!), and choose your toppings and sauces. Lunch time in the loop, for me, can lend itself to the mundane, typical sandwich or soup from the local joints or leftovers from dinner the night previous. It's not anyone's fault but mine, as the loop has some great lunch spots. Roti is one of these. You walk in to find a rather long line, consider walking back out the door but then realize how quickly the line moves. So you stay. The ordering system is set up in a basic, easy to use approach. The choices are limited but still enough to consider exciting (for me anyway). You choose your base, sauce, then toppings and a side if you find it necessary. Easy peasy. I ordered a laffe wrap (very flavorful bread, slightly chewy and holds in the ingredients very well) with chicken Roti (spiced chicken chunks, maybe a touch over salted, but this didn't stop me from eating every last piece). I asked for cucumber dill sauce (simple and creamy), Baba Ghannoush (smoky and thick), red cabbage slaw (crunchy, didn't add much to the sandwich other than crunch), Sumac onions (tart and crunchy), tomato & cucumber salad (very fresh and flavorful, you cannot go wrong) and cous-cous (slightly sweet and nutty). For me this is quite a lot of food, and at $6.50 for the whole lot I had lunch and dinner wrapped up. The portions are generous. As I said, I was able to eat the wrap for my lunch and dinner. I ate almost half at lunch and then the rest at home later on for dinner. The wrap stayed very well and didn't lose flavor or become mushy after sitting in the fridge for a few hours. I went to lunch with my in laws and they suggested this place. I would basically call this the Mediterranean Chipole. I had the chicken sandwich with the red pepper sauce and the traditional sauce both of which are delicious. The chicken was tender and flavorful and the sides that can come with it are all good. My wife and I have been meeting up here for lunch once a week for the last month and we were very happy with the food. Until June 26, 2013 that is. We met up for lunch there as usual and we ordered the same things we always do, a rice place. To our surprise we were being served noticeably smaller portions of everything, the chicken, the hummus, the feta cheese and the tomato cucumber salad. The pita bread was also about half the size of the pita bread we had been served the previous time we ate here. The food was still good as always but the portions were so much smaller than before that I did not feel like my hunger was satisfied. Loved this place! Very fast and efficient workers! I never heard of this restaurant before and I doubt there is one in the west coast but it is basically like chipotle where they take you step by step and add what you want. I had the steak roti because honestly the description sounded delicious. I had shredded beef on roti brad with two sauces chipotle and tahini(there's more) I added tomatoes and lettuce and greatly flavored couscous which I thought was small corn because of how yellow it was. Oh my god I don't know why I even just thought about this place. I used to work right down the street, so this was a pretty frequent lunch spot. The food is pretty good. Lots of options. Great hot sauce. I never tried any of the meat so I can't say anything about that. What this review is really about is the staff. It's so WEIRD. You can tell they're trained to be very customer service oriented and helpful. Some of them, however, seem to not give a fuck and begrudgingly make your pita wrap or whatever, not paying attention to you, talking to someone else about their shitty life or something. but SOME of them are SO friendly it's almost uncomfortable. I'm sorry but I just don't want to be bffs with the nerd making my falafel. The guy payed way too much attention to me where it almost felt intrusive. If I would go alone, he would ask me where my "rocker friend" was. Sometimes this kind of relationship works when you're a regular somewhere. It can be endearing. Big fan of Roti - we stop there almost every time we are in the city. Good, fresh food, prepared to order. While it's not a direct comparison, I like it a lot more than Chipotle. There are clear instructions on how to order, and while we were there they were making fresh pitas, so anyone who wanted one had to wait a few more minutes, but I went with a wrap and it was a good choice for a slightly 'lighter' lunch. i came to this Roti since I was in the neighborhood, but I also wanted to do a comparison to I Dream of Falafel. I don't think that you can truly compare this to too many other Mediterranean restaurants. This is like a chain restaurant, and obviously it will have some sort of Americanized variation of the real thing. The often long line moves quickly so that you can nosh on the kebab goodness as soon as possible. I also like that you can order in advance online and pick-up which is super-quick. This isn't "gourmet" food, but it's not designed to be. It's five stars in my book based on how frequently I return day after day for lunch. The chicken salad is my favorite, but you can't go wrong. I would describe Roti as the Chipotle of Mediterranean food. This is the third Roti location I've tried and my favorite thus far. (I've also eaten at the Adams and Riverside Plaza locations.) I ordered online at 12:55 for pick up at 1:15 and my food was ready and waiting when I got there. There was still a long line to order, but I walked right up to the online order counter and got my food. This location is larger than the other two I've visited so seating seems to be a bit easier to find. Roti has the best falafel I've found in the Loop, and this location is not exception.
