Why have I never eaten at Roti before? It's pretty much a chipotle version of Mediterranean food. Excellent food, for an excellent price. I love the customized meals! Everyone is happy with their meal. We shared two items and it came out to be $20 for 2 entrees with 2 pita. This was a good deal considering how much food we got and how fresh it tasted. We had a salad with chicken roti and a rice plate with chicken kabobs. Everything was delicious. We tried most of the salads. Came in this afternoon and had a Chicken and Rice dish with hummus and a side of Falafel. The food was delicious, but stood out even more was the incredible staff. The young lady working and Luis who took my order were OUTSTANDING! So much so they even brought out a bowl of cold water for my puppies after there long walk to the restaurant I own a Taqueria in the West Loop, And can so I was incredibly impressed. Great job Luis! Fresh, fast and flavorful - I really enjoyed Roti! I know Roti to be an Indian dish but this is Roti Modern Mediterranean - this location was my first experience with this fast-casual chain. Nice minimalistic interiors with different seating options, attentive staff and high quality ingredients make this place a winner. The rundown - you start with a base (rice plate, salad, wrap) then customize it with proteins like chicken, steak, salmon or tofu and then veggies and sauces. Both times, I went with the salmon rice bowl. Topping options are unbounded. My fancy - couscous, grilled veggies, red cabbage slaw, a cucumber salad and roasted red pepper sauce. So custom, so delicious! The salmon was seasoned so very well and honestly, I was surprised. My skewer was rolled fresh off of the grill. The only down is that the sauces are like ice cold - so topping the on warm meats kind of puts out the flame. If they could put those under a warmer this would be awesome. Don't sleep on the teas and other drink options they have as well. 4.5 stars - I will be back, to this location and others. read more

I went to Roti for the first time last week. Went to the Lincoln Park location off North Avenue and it was fantastic. The service was outstanding and the salad was delicious. SO WHY DID I GO TO HYDE PARK ROTI? Why did I have to be treated like a criminal because I pointed to the food choices? Ulyssa, the rude girl, told me not to point at the food. Her voice and tone were so nasty. If that was forbidden then the rude girl could have spoken to me in a respectful manner. Instead, she spoke to me like I was a child and she was the mean, unkind stepmother. Ulyssa or Alyssa, whatever her name, needs some instructions in customer service. This used to be one of my favorite places to go eat at but the prices went up drastically, the food was cold and they have a completely different menu. They took a lot of the good items off. So let down that this restaurant went downhill. I'm a business owner on 53rd St. We need a well-functioning Roti restaurant: this location has good potential! I've been here 6-7 times, but my experience has been more bad than good, and I'm reluctant to return. Pros: 1. Healthy, tasty food, lots of vegetables, usually well-prepared. 2.Staff can be very sweet and responsive to customers. Cons: 1.Some staff are terribly unpleasant and have poor customer service skills. 2.Restaurant is out of basic items such as cooked chicken, falafel or various vegetable dishes. 3. Waits for basic items have been as long as 20 minutes! 4. It's not fair to pay for a "bowl", when 2-4 items that should be part of the meal are missing! Please address your staff shortages, take time to hire talented staff, address training issues, and address the problem of item shortages. read more

The food at Roti was decent--it had a Chipotle-style feel where you got to customize your plate or salad bowl with whatever you wanted. I got a plate with half-half chicken and steak and a bunch of sides and toppings-rice, cous cous, green schug sauce, tahini, veggies, hummus, and a piece of bread. The food was decent and tasted pretty similar to a Chipotle burrito bowl in my opinion.The food was a little salty though and as a result, I was drinking a lot of water which made me feel a little bloated. The prices were also similar but if you are feeling a little more Mediterranean, I would choose Roti over Chipotle. I'm not the biggest fan of Roti and I have had it twice so after a few years I decide to give it a try today, June 4th 2023 but I didn't get a chance to eat it because of what happened prior. I was at the roti on the 53rd Street location Hyde Park in the afternoon. I decided to try the harissa pita. As a person was going to fix the pita, they first cut the pita bread with some kind of scissor which already had a little stuff on it, I gave that a slight pass but what bothered me that was to come next was at the person put the pita in the brown wrapping and placed it on the slab. But then picked up some coupons or some kind of paper item and walked to the other end and came back and didn't even apologize for it. But then also though the person had gloves on put that gloved hand inside the pita to kind of open it up. That's when I walked away. Why would you not change your gloves. I was very disgusted and I even said to the person. I don't want it anymore because you touching every little thing and I left out. Needless to say, I will never eat at roti again. This place is always good, I love the food, the people are always nice. During covid, I appreciate people working in restaurants (and in any job that comes in contact with the public) a million times more than I already do. Tonight, the girl who helped me was super polite and friendly, we exchanged "how are you"s.... it's harder to hear with masks but I appreciate when people say it anyway. The place is decorated for the holidays with garland and a tree, and they have white blinky lights up and down along the space where you wait in line... it looks nice and festive! As I left we said Happy Thanksgiving/Happy Holidays, I could feel the smiles from behind the masks. I've always been a smile person, it's always nice to get one back, especially from strangers. Now that we don't have that for a while, it's extra cool to experience positive forms of communication. So thank you to the two awesome girls at Roti Sunday night Nov 22nd! I placed an order online and it was scheduled to be ready for pickup after 15 minutes. I arrived after 20 minutes and it still had yet to be cooked at all. Then they cooked it as I waited an additional 15 minutes for food that was supposed to already be cooked and bagged up for me to pickup and leave with. The salmon was over cooked and dry as paper. I should have checked my bag once I saw they rushed to make my order when I arrived because my extra pita that I paid for was missing from my bag once I finally got home to eat it. Very disappointed. I had learned Roti was under new management and the changes slowly began. 1st it was the menu change, no big deal. Then the bowl got smaller and the price never changed, ok. I never write reviews but I love Roti and I love THIS Roti! I come to this location at least 3x a week. Vicki, Tim, and the whole staff are amazing and so sweet to me. Though they can't help be to recognize me because of my frequency, they treat me like a familiar face but with new energy and excitement each time! The food is fresh, well seasoned, and delicious!! I am vegan so this is a great option for me when I don't feel like cooking or need something quick. I get a falafel rice plate or salad and it's just the best. The food here is very good. Although portion size is small, this is one of the few descent places in Hyde Park where you can get a healthy(ish) meal. What really consistently sucks at Roti in Hyde Park is the service. I'm not sure if it's poor training, or bad management, but it's been consistently very bad. Each time I go in, I feel like I need to fight a small war to get a correct order. The staff are permanently in a bad mood, and they get especially upset at special requests. If you're sick of Chipotle next door, you can get Mediterranean food in a similar choose-your-own-combination format here, and frankly the results might be even better. On a bed of arugula or spring mix you can get a flavorful meat, all sorts of vegetable add-ons, including pickles, pickled onions, cabbage, tomato-cucumber salad, and much more, plus some good sauces. Plenty of options, I really like adding the pickled onions as it gives the dish the right punch and I usually mix two of the sauces and build a monster bowl or on lighter days I'll just make it into a wrap. For a quick pit stop that's fast healthy and convenient I'd recommend Roti. You should be able to get in and out of here right around ten bucks. read more

I want to thank Roti for everything they have done for me. I currently attend the U of C, and due to COVID, all libraries, cafes, etc have been closed. I absolutely HATE studying in my dorm room. It literally gave me depression. Once restaurants started opening up a bit, I found this little spot. I would study here and always bought the spicy lamb meatballs because I didn't want to be one of "those customers" that didn't buy anything (they were bussin too lol). This place was GREAT for studying. Lots of open spaces, outlets, and the food is pretty good -- and healthy as a bonus perk! The covid precautions were great too. I felt very safe. I got so much work done here. The icing on the cake is the service. Everyone was extremely nice. They saw me come in everyday and eventually introduced themselves to me individually (even their manager). This was something I didn't expect coming from a chain. Nevertheless, the staff really went above and beyond. I'm not sure how they trained their employees, but please keep it up! I'd really love to give this place 5 stars for taste and as a healthy alternative, but this particular location lacks the customer service and food aesthetics to reach that potential. I walked into this establishment, unbeknownst to it's name due to a horrible customer service experience at the Chipotle next door. While I received an upgrade on food selection and wait, the customer service was unfortunately the same. No greeting, employees talking to each other about job issues as if the customers weren't present, food presentation wasn't appealing and the meat was cold (although tasty), throwing your order in the bag, did I mention customer service? The cashier basically acted as if he was selling items in the streets! I loved to visit the location again because it's close to home but I think I will get better quality food, presentation and service at another location? Oh my goodness, why have I never eaten at Roti before? I kid you not, this was probably my favorite meal of the year. If taking into account price+quality+portion-size+taste-- NO OTHER meal has beaten Roti thus far. For those who haven't been, it's basically the Mediterranean version of Chipotle. Start with your base of either rice, pita, laffa wrap, or salad. Choose your protein (chicken roti/white meat, chicken kabob/dark meat, steak roti, lamb meatballs, salmon, falafel). Then pick your veggies and toppings! I started off with the Laffa wrap because I've never had Laffa before. It's basically their version of a wrap/tortilla. I got the chicken kabob topped with cabbage slaw, olives, sumac red onions and finished with dill, cucumber, yogurt sauce and tahini. I also got a side of falafel and hummus. Seriously, I can't even explain how delicious this was. Ever eat something so good, so unexpected that your eyes light up and your tastebuds are dancing in happiness? That's my first experience with Roti. The chicken was so flavorful and tender, the toppings and sauces were so bold and texturally versatile and pleasing, and the laffa was the perfect vehicle to wrap everything in! Even though the laffa itself is more than enough to fill you, I couldn't stop eating the falafel with hummus. Seriously, some of the best falafel I've had! It wasn't too dry and bland like others I've had before. I barely spent over $10 to have myself completely stuffed and completely satisfied with one of the best meals I've eaten in a looooong time. Even when I'm in the suburbs, I'll trek up to Oak Brook and Schaumburg just to eat here once a week. You can't go wrong with Roti, it's seriously my new favorite QSR!!! read more

I ordered their Salmon on Greens. The order was delivered without the salmon and the pita bread. I called to ask for a replacement. When I told them why I had called, they immediately put me on hold for 15 minutes before they came back on the line to talk with me about the problem. They then said they had no drivers so I never got my food. They did say they would credit my credit card account for the order in 3-5 business days. I had a roti chicken wrap - pretty flavorful/juicy chicken which was nice. There were a lot of toppings and I wasn't too familiar with all of it, so I guessed and went with the garlic and red schug sauce, which seemed to work well - interesting sauce mix - sweet/lemon-y/spicy pepper-y. Had some quinao/cauliflower mix as well as some red cabbage/carrots, and pickled red onions. The vegetables were all well cooked and flavored, balanced well with everything else, which is really refreshing from a fast casual place. Extremely minor complaint was half an olive got into the wrap, which in olive fashion overpowered everything else... Welcome addition to the neighborhood. Wasn't too crowded around 4 PM on a Wednesday. This ran under $8. As filling as the next door Chipotle's burrito. I will probably get a rice bowl ($9) next time since it's easier to eat than a wrap. I think I'll ask for more toppings to get more money's worth. Very friendly staff! Nice interior... feels very comfy and warm, kind of like an IHOP or Panera Bread, except... not. The Chipotle of the Mediterranean does not disappoint! My rating for this is actually higher than Chipotle because the food was so good and the portion size just as large. Literally a dozen different options for toppings: hummus and sauce, of course, but also couscous salad, coleslaw, tomato cucumber salad, tabouli, etc. etc. The green sauce is pleasantly spicy and the falafel way better than most I've had! Feta, olives, and cilantro are a must for any order (unless you hate cilantro, in which case, I'm sorry for you). Great for a quick lunch or dinner, and you could easily take home leftovers for later. I hope this chain comes to Boston! read more

Came here for their deal they offered the day before their real Grand Opening! They were offering a free meal to anybody who donated to The Hyde Park Art Center. This place was obviously brimming with people wanting to make use of their free meal (with donation) deal. I was VERY pleasantly surprised at how quick the wait was and how fast the employees served the food. I got the Salmon in a Pita Sandwich; it was DELICIOUS. My boyfriend's Steak Rice Plate was super good too. They also have so many sides and toppings: Roti Rice, Hummus, Tomato & Cucumber, Red Cabbage Slaw, Cous Cous, Veggies, Mixed Greens, Olives, etc. I think the only bummer is that Chipotle is next door for around the same price, but with way more food. I came here for a work lunch. I have been to Chicago plenty but never to Hyde Park. This was the first lunch we went to while I was in town and it was the dreaded chain. And to top it off I really wasn't digging the healthy looking food that they had listed. I just got in I was starving and I really wanted something just a bit hearty. BOOM!!! They delivered. The food I chose tasted great, filling, and not at all heavy. Plenty of ingredients make the possibilities limitless. I am really glad that they chose to take me here.
