Let me say straight out: Don't use Roth for anything! They are a complete and total rip off. You are better off with an internet plumber, which I finally and successfully used. I initially called Roth to repair a slow leak in kitchen sink. At the same time, we wanted to have a new garbage disposer installed (which we previously purchased and had it waiting for the Roth Tech.). He showed up, looked under the sink for ten seconds, then said he was going to his truck. He returned with an $813 bid. Are you kidding? Needless to say we said no thanks. We called another plumber who did a wonderful job at a fair price. Roth has money for TV ads, which I am sure they are paying for with their exorbitant fees. Don't bother. On 11/6/12 I had the pleasure of having Travis Albright at my home for my furnace repair Although Albright was new and didn't repair my furnace on his first trip out he explained to me what the likely problems were and told he me would return later that afternoon with another technician who was going to help him problem solve. Albright returned as promised with parts that he thought would take care of my furnace. Within the hour I had HEAT!!! After 2 1/2 weeks of dealing with a competitor, I wish I would have called Roth first. Quick and professional service is what I received. We are now two weeks into a malfunctioning furnace. We started out with another company because Roth has a strict policy requiring customers to have credit card info on file or banking info. I have been a victim twice that I know of with theft of my ID and credit information. I requested a copy of their policy on how they secure the customer's information after a valiant try to bypass their ridiculous policy. They said they would email it to me immediately. Four days later, nothing. In the last week, Roth has been here three times, including last night. We are still having the same problem and have spent about $700 to date for the four visits so far with nothing fixed. Not happy!!!! read more

I used twice Roth a year, for over 15 years, to service and maintain my home HVAC and my wine cellar cooling system which they installed (and according to a Roth tech it was installed improperly with no access for service). I noticed their attention to detail began to slip when they expanded into plumbing and electrical services. Their downfall with me began when they were a no show for a scheduled appointment, with no call or a apology. I re-scheduled only to have them call and move the appointment, not once but twice. Now to add to their reputation I called to schedule them out to repair some damaged duct work and was told they would not do the work unless I signed a maintenance agreement. Roth just installed an HVAC system today for us. Our house did not have air conditioning previously, and we have them replace the furnace and water heater at the same time. So far I'm very impressed with the quality of the installation, and the installers (Glenn & Jose) were very helpful in teaching my wife and I how the equipment works. Our salespeople Garth (& Steve) were also very helpful, informative & polite. So far our dealings with Roth have been nothing but positive. Our 13 year old furnace/AC unit was water damaged by a water tank connection failure. The insurance company agreed to cover the cost of replacing damaged parts of the 80% efficient furnace installed when the house was built. After a Roth representative completed a very thorough inspection of our home, he recommended upgrading with a high efficiency furnace and AC unit as well as installation of a new zone (with use of dampers) to better distribute heat/cold throughout our 3-level home. We decided to spend the additional money to upgrade the system and are extremely pleased witht he results. The installers did a terrific job, were friendly, helpful and efficient. The price quote was for a brand that had an AC coil that turned out to be too large to fit the space available. Roth agreed to a Lennox product at no additional charge to us. Roth ate the difference since the Lennox system was more expensive than the brand originally quoted. read more

It was a little more than I thought, but I think I paid for quality. I will know for sure this winter. I've used Roth several times over the years and have found them to be fair and knowledgeable. Its usually something real simple. This week their guy came out to look at my pool heater that was broken, he found the problem, a lead in the heat exchanger, let me know they don't sell pool heaters but showed me the lead and said the unit needs to be replaced. Anyway, he didn't charge me anything for the visit. He could have spent a lot of time billing me, but instead, did the right thing. I will definitely us them again. read more

We have been using Roth for about 8 or 9 years to service & maintain our gas furnace. This furnace was installed in 1994 & Roth has been helping us baby it along until we could afford a new unit. This was the year. Roth's bid was slightly higher than the others (~$200) so we decided to go with them because of the quality service we have always received from them. The install went smoothly without a hitch. They worked with our schedule, completed on budget, finished early. They kept me informed of everything they were doing, discussing it with me & making sure I approved before they proceeded. I would recommend Roth to my friends. read more

Over the past 15 years Roth has serviced my home's systems, including a huge duct replacement job in the crawlspace, a new furnace and air conditioner, additional zone & thermostat replacement, and a water heater. They serviced my gas fireplace insert and even showed me how to maintain it myself to save that extra dough. Over the past 15 years, their communication has gotten much better (must less time wasted waiting for service people). I also appreciate that they might suggest an upgrade or additional service plan but respect my "No, thank you," and do not engage in aggressive sales tactics. Their service people and office people are friendly and patient. Their service is prompt. Now I am moving out of state and have to find a new Roth, and it saddens me. read more

Up Sale of items not needed and told we had a Carbon Monoxide leak on our furnace by Brett A. He told us he would shut our furnace down now as the leak was to high for him to leave it. Brett said the gas company won't let him leave with the furnace carbon monoxide leak this high without shutting off furnace. He told us we needed to talk with Garth right now to get a new furnace cost of $aprx $8,500. He said the part was on warranty but service costs is 3/4 cost of new furnace. He looked at our air conditioner also and said it needed to be replaced as the motor is going out. That is another $7,000. Brett said while you are at it the hot water tank should be replaced since you are doing these other things. We purchased the furnace, a/c and hot water tank from them brand new in 2005. We have had service from them always. Each service they always want to up sale to something else. They installed a Remme UVA that was defective from day one. They said they would take $1,050 off the new furnace cost. The ac unit they couldn't get parts so it had to be new. We were scared on the furnace so we called another company to come check the carbon monoxide level on the furnace. They did a service call and not one drop of carbon monoxide. We thought this was really weird and didn't know who was right or wrong. We had NW Natural Gas come out and test the unit. NW Natural has more accurate testing equipment. They found not one thing wrong with the furnace on Carbon Monoxide. We also asked the second gas furnace company to tell us the cost of the same gas furnace as Roth was quoting us a cost on. Roth is several Thousands dollar higher for same unit. We also had the a/c unit checked to see if we need to replace it. We were told no and the part is only $500 for a new motor when it needs it. Nothing is needed on the a/c unit now like Roth said. The hot water tank is also fine for now. We could of spent over $8,500 for furnace not needed and $7,000 for new a/c unit that the repair would be only $500 when needed and a new hot water tank. Roth is trying to up sale items not needed and spend for items not needed at all. Call for a second estimate before you would hire Roth. Other companies are way cheaper. NW Natural Gas company doesn't lie on Carbon Monoxide testing like Roth stated was shutting us down in the winter. We are in the Portland area. She called me back twice with a projected eta for the technician and quoted reasonable pricing. This is the second time we have used Roth for a home repair. They were the only company that was able to properly repair our air conditioner system. It now works perfectly, So we called on them again. John Haugan of Roth Heating Cooling Plumbing and Electrical is an excellent reflection of a very professional company. We noticed a sudden leak in our water heater in the morning and had it fixed by the afternoon. The management is so prompt and thorough. They call before their service men are due and give you confirmation of their arrival time. John was so understanding and helpful. Costs were explained and guidance given. We went with Roth Heating & Cooling through Costco. Garth Hepler was extremely helpful in identifying options for our home layout and the financial benefits of installing the mini-split heating/cooling system. We had him price out several scenarios and he was always eager and pleased to do SO much legwork for us. We ultimately chose to go with Lennox, for which Costco offers a 10% rebate on a Costco gift card. Garth was able to schedule installation within a week of completing the final paperwork. Mike G. and Brody were our installation technicians, both were polite and hard-working. After two days of installation work, we did experienced a problem with some water leaking from one of the units. Lisa was able to schedule a follow up with Sam the next day (today). Sam was also kind, hard-working, and understanding about the problem and quickly fixed it. He was knowledgeable about the products and provided some tips on how to get the most out of our Lennox system. Overall, our experience with everyone from Roth was solid and our house has a cool, even temperature throughout. We are also excited about the rebates we will receive from the State of Oregon and saving $200 a month in heating costs this winter. We absolutely would recommend Roth Heating & Cooling, as well as Costco because of the incentives they offer. read more

I know plumbers are busy, but it shouldn't take an entire day, three phone calls and talking to 3 different people just to talk to someone to make an appointment. Then, they won't give you any idea what it's going to cost, only to say there's an analysis fee and then they'll quote the price when they're on-site. They won't even quote an hourly rate. Then to add insult to injury they want to put your credit card on file. Supposedly to hold the appointment. I wasted so much time I've now lost another day trying to get someone to work on my water heater. read more

I highly recommend using ANYONE but Roth. Maybe the little old lady across the street will be more efficient and reliable? I will NEVER use Roth again. They were a nightmare to work with as a company. The individual service technicians were fine, but the project managers were clueless, and the company as a whole has major problems with communication and integrity. Over the course of our project (we paid Roth $15,000-20,000 to reduct and install a second air conditioner, and furnace in our rebuilt house) we had two project managers. The second was Chris Fisher who was less than helpful, but I do feel the original manager left him with a mess to clean up. The company failed permits 9 times due to not completing the items listed on the permit inspection reports, 8 times. They do not communicate, I could guarantee when a technician or service provider would show up they would not know what they were supposed to be doing, or fixing. Their bidding process is atrocious. Nothing is itemized, which for them makes it very easy to come back and say, 'oh, sorry that wasn't part of the bid.' We heard this many times, including the servicing of the unit they said when they wrote the bid would need to be serviced. This unit ended up being a unit we will have to replace. It is not, as we were told by our original project manager, going to be 'fine'. It is on its last leg according to their service technician who came out later to clean it. All this to say (and oh, so much more) DO NOT USE ROTH FOR ANYTHING!!! I will never use them again, nor will my contractors who spent numerous hours getting Roth to fix their mistakes, and labor fixing the mistakes made by Roth themselves when Roth couldn't seem to get it together. In our $250,000 renovation project, dealing with Roth, and finding out that even though the project is over we will still need to replace our furnace anyway (another $10,000) was by far the worst part of the whole thing. Nope, never again! I will be paying someone else to install the furnace we are stuck with. read more

I just had a very horrible experience with service technician Vance Taylor. He came in to the Verizon store I work at to fix the AC that had stopped working a few days ago. After spending some time looking, he came back into the store to lecture my associate and I. He explained that it was our fault it wasn't working correctly because the thermostat should never turned below 70°.Although that may be true, we had no knowledge of that fact. He argued that he had told me that before even though I have never met him. Throughout the entire time he was in the store-he was completely condescending. When I asked him to stop being condescending he ignored me and said nothing. Thanks for fixing our air, but your customer service needs vast improvement. I don't think it's ever acceptable to berate someone for not knowing something- even if it annoys you. The experience was very unprofessional. read more

Roth is a Ridiculously High Priced company which charges customers the highest prices possible and constantly upsells for more of the customer's money. Roth tech Tommy came to my home to perform a maintenance check on my furnace and AC. Roth's internet "special, limited time" price was 1/2 off the regular charge so I bit their ploy for them to get into the house to really just "upsell" me on so called "about to fail" parts. Tommy found a furnace capacitor that was "about to fail' and should be replaced. The part cost about $25, without installation, but I was charged a ridiculous $480 with installation of 5 minutes. Outrageous! Additionally, Tommy also discovered that the 4 year old AC capacitor was "near failure". If I purchased Roth's Annual Homeowner Service Agreement - Bronze level @ $228, I could receive a 20% discount on the capacitors price- Roth's "push" to get me buy the annual contract which I did not buy. What I thought would be a $150 maintenance bill ($75 for each unit - AC & furnace), the final bill was $630, a true ripoff! DO NOT use Roth Heating and Cooling - there are many other reputable company choices without the sales push to spend top dollar which is Roth's trademark. Do Not Use Roth, you will regret it. read more

Roth Heating did the initial install of the HVAC in a small commercial building I have in McMinnville. The system would not work. Eventually it was decided that we needed to change the operating system. Roth obtained the replacement operating system for 'free' but then charged me to install it. The system still didn't work. After spending 10s of thousands of dollars I had to replace virtually the entire system. I fired Roth. Wish I'd know of Yelp before I started since it seems All of their commercial reviews are negative. :( read more

I got an call from them when they were on their way, and an email with a profile of the technician who was coming (nice touch!). He was incredibly professional, thoroughly explained what he was doing, and got approval for the extra costs before he performed the service. We have worked with Roth since 2009; that's the HVAC service that our builder used to install the units. All was well until September 2015. Roth decided that they would no longer service Washington locations (Camas), no reason given. At that point we had one more service visit remaining on our annual service agreement. At the next visit in February 2016 (which we thought was the last) the service technician advised that they would continue to service Washington. Then on the next visit (8/24/16) the technician advised that we needed to renew our service agreement; but we could not pay the annual lump sum fee which we had done in the past but they would accept our credit card for a monthly charge for the next 12 month term. That seemed odd (turn down up front cash in the pocket?). So we renewed. Then in November 2016 we received a form letter from Roth indicating that they again decided to stop service for Washington customers; saying that the decision had been made in June 2016. I asked why was I advised in August that service would continue; the weak response from "Travis" that it must have been a communication error. So, then I asked that they cancel my next service call, cancel the service agreement and return the $20+ per month charge that had hit my credit card since August. Travis replied "We can't do that, if you cancel now there will be no refund. So, we hung on and our last service call with Roth was last week. The bottom line on them was that the technicians who performed the work did an excellent job; they deserved 4 or 5 stars. But the management of the organization jerked us around for over a year with their indecision on servicing Washington and their BS regarding the fee charge method for the final 12 months; thus the one star rating. Roth sold me a Lennox furnace and air conditioner mid 2006. The air conditioner had limited use over ensuing years, due, in part to Oregon weather. In June, discovered a leak occurred in a covered coil area to the side of the furnace. They estimated cost to be in excess of $2,000 (after senior discount) and in addition to costs for initial visit. Common sense dictates that the product itself was defective or the installer did something at installation; however there is no recourse, other than just scrapping the unit itself. Roth did nothing to make the situation better (nor did the unseasonably hot summer). By better, I mean any alternative suggestions (a whole new unit doesn't cost that much more), a payment plan, even a sympathetic ear). read more

Best customer service I have received in a long time. We moved into a house with 16 year old equipment and it failed day 1. We had Matt out and he fixed the problem, however a few days later it was not working again. I called Matt as he gave me his cell number on a Friday at 4:30 pm and left a message. He called me back right away and helped me fix the problem. It was caused by my contractor changing someone nothing Roth had done. Not happy, Roth installed a furnace in December 2014, the co2 pipe wasn't glued and it has fallen apart, called to get a service call, was told it will be January 19th before they can come out. Also got asked for a credit card number to pay for the faulty installation. This is over a week without heat for an installation job they didn't do correctly. I am just glad I happened to notice it before our garage and/or house filled up with co2. I expected better customer service for a job they did incorrectly. read more
