If you need work done to your rotary engine Mazda, this is the only place to go. At 104,000 miles the engine on my RX8 had to be replaced (it was always a question of when not if it would need to be replace). I initially took it to another shop and they swore to me up and down that they could handle the RX8. After a few weeks, I gave up on them and had it towed to Rotary Performance. They knew exactly what to do to confirm the motor had to be replaced, and we worked out a plan to replace other key parts in the car since the motor was going to be out anyways. My check engine light came on and I came here not realizing they only fixed rotarys (I just googled Mazda and went for it not realizing the name). Dave was who I encountered with and honestly such a kind person! He did not have to help me at all and could've turn me away but he offered to do a quick scan on my car to see why the light came on. Turns out it was for serious diagnosis and I was able to take my car to a dealership and get it fixed right away! Dave was really helpful and showed great customer service. I'm thinking the reason there's not many Yelp reviews on this shop is because their reputation precedes them. I had my FD engine "refreshed" by Chris at RP, and here's what I know from firsthand experience: 1. They're extremely knowledgeable about the car. As a car fanatic, I appreciate this. 2. They're focused on making clients happy. When I wanted communication, they communicated. When options came up, we talked through them. 3. They're not pushy - they give you their expertise, and leave the decision to you. 4. They're genuinely nice. It's not a facade - you want to go have a beer with these guys after handing them multiple thousands of dollars. That says a lot. 5. Success hasn't gotten to their heads - you know how some specialty shops have an arrogance about them? These guys make you feel like you're friends with them, even though they have a stellar reputation in the community (from what I can see). Are they the cheapest option? No. But if you have a rotary, you should know that "cheap" is relative - either you pay to have it done right the first time, or you pay twice later down the road. Not enough 5-star reviews for this place. Had a pre-purchase inspection done with a compression check for significantly less than any dealership would have charged just for a compression check. They were extremely detailed in their inspection, going as far as counting the plastic clips that were missing from the fender well of my RX-8. Fantastic work, honest, reliable and detailed down to even the most insignificant nut and bolt. 11/10, would recommend. read more

Possibly the best thing you can do for yourself, and your Rotary. Hands down the #1 Rotary shop in the nation. Key things to look for in any shop would be: Honesty Integrity Knowledge Communication Price Chris, Mary, Matt, Brandon... Pretty much everyone there did everything the promised and more! After 4 years of searching I finally found my Montego Blue FD in February of this year. I religiously check forums for problematic issues, tried to correct them, and then A reputable shop to go to once "D-day" came. I decided to bite the bullet and have it rebuilt in August. I called RP and Mary answered. She explained to me that there was about a month wait time but that she could go ahead and put me on the log. September 18th. When I dropped the car off, I knew I was in the right spot. FB, FC,FD, Rotary Truck, RX-8, you name it, the car was there. Chris (Owner) came out to personally greet me and walk around the car confirming what we spoke about on the phone, and thoroughly explaining to me what the plan was. The first thing out of his mouth once I popped the hood was, " If we don't have to rebuild it, we won't. I can take care of anything that needs attention, and get the car back to you" Wait... What? you don't want money money even though I'm telling you to take it? AWESOME!!!! Honesty. Integrity. 2 days past and I received a call: " Hey Christian it's Chris at Rotary Performance. Do you have a minute?" Chris went on to explain that my compression was at the lower end of the spec for what it should be. My car may be good for 2-5 more years, could blow tomorrow. He left the decision up to me, he didn't push or pry, just gave me his opinion. Knowledge. Communication. I said "Lets do it." I was told a month and a half is the ETA and that I should be able to come pick it up at that point. We corresponded throughout the entire time, and RP called me with each update that I requested along with emailing me photos. I was able to pick it up early and wants I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. Chris and the other guys took time out of their day to show me and my friend the entire shop, Current vehicle/ projects, then run me through my entire car. I had a Radiator, Engine rebuild, exhaust install, and tune performed while the car was there. They repaired and replaced problems that I was never aware of, didn't overlap the labor rate, and welded up some holes on my APEXI intakes for no additional costs. I even received a follow up call 2 weeks later to make sure that everything was working as intended! Communication. Price. Rotary Performance will keep you in the loop, Save you money, and educate you so that you may feel comfortable about your newly revived rotary beast. I can not give them enough praise or right a review well enough to truly convey my emotion and appreciation for this shop. They create the possibility for you to go buy a bottle of wine, Park your sexy rotary machine on a hill, and fall in love with it all over again. I have taken my rx7 to Chris a few times in the past year and him and his crew are always great. They're very understanding and are absolute experts in these cars. I will not take my car anywhere else for service or upgrades. Chris is very patient and always takes his time to completely explain the situation to me and discuss various options. There is never any pressure is selling any services or products that you don't need. Recently my car wouldn't start and was stranded in the target parking lot, I thought I would have to tow it in for sure but called them just in case. Mary answered the phone and was able to quickly diagnose the problem as a clutch safety switch issue and walked me through how to bypass it and start the car. She even offered for me to drive it in and to permanently fix the switch for free. That's how genuine and honest this shop is. Chris and his highly skilled and knowledgeable team are simply the best in the DFW metroplex. No other Mazda dealership or shop around this area has the same level of expertise in dealing with the very unique RX7 and RX8. They have many customers from outside the state of Texas which is a reflection of the reputation they have within the rotary community. Recently our RX8 required a major repair and Chris and his team were able to work with us to find a solution that got us back on the road without breaking the bank. Throughout the entire process Chris kept us informed of the progress and anything else they ran across. As an RX8 owner we are very fortunate to have them nearby.
