I had a frightening experience at this hookah lounge. The worker threatened to hurt me and acted as if he was going to strike me with a hookah. The situation became extremely aggressive and violent, and I genuinely feared for my safety. This was especially upsetting because the establishment presents itself as a space where Muslims are welcome and safe. The behavior I experienced directly contradicted that message. The night staff appeared completely unhinged, and the level of hostility was alarming. Because I felt my life was in danger, I had no choice but to call the police. This is not an exaggeration. Service was lacking and the hookah was too. The hookah burned out unusually quick and we were barely attended to. The waiter didn't come by once after we ordered to see if we wanted anything else. The coals for the hookah weren't renewed until we asked for them 1 hour after the hookahs were due for a coal change. Overall I probably wouldn't go back here anyways since you. Ant even really hear the person sitting right across from you since the music is too loud. It was a busy night tho so I will give them the benefit of the doubt! Across the street is Jasmyn lounge. HI, I am giving 5 stars for Aldi and the sheesha quality. The server who waited on us on a Sunday morning we went for sheesha. He was so attentive and packed fresh sheesha. We ordered rose in a plain bowl and white gummy bear in an orange and both were great. The White Gummy Bear was fantastic in an orange bowl and was really fruity! I loved it.Some places reuse fruit when they serve you and he grabbed a fresh orange and cut it in front of us which had me convinced. Day time sheesha here is perfect. My friend told our server (Aldi) it was her birthday and he played an Arabic birthday song! and also did a little dance it was the sweetest thing. He showed us how we can control the music and brought us glasses of ice water attentively. We never needed to ask for more coals as he brought them right on time. He gave me an amazing cup of Egyptian mint tea and it was the perfect burst of caffeine I needed because I wanted to avoid coffee, so delightful. I wanted to buy a hose like the one we were using at Rotana and he helped me find the exact one for purchase from a nearby shop which I appreciated so much. Been to this Hookah Lounge about 4-5 times. I have tried other places around (the whole street is hookah lounges), but I like this one the most compare to the other ones. The music is not too loud, tables are not too close to each other, not ghetto, and authentic. A hookah costs about $12-$15. You can add fresh fruits as the base, I tried a fresh pineapple base once, additional $10, but I didn't like it that much. The service is very fast here. Someone is always changing your charcoals. I've been coming here for about 4-5 years now and Rotana has only gotten better over the course of that time. Rotana's really come a long way over the years having had renovations done almost yearly to upgrade the establishment. Sometimes it takes having a lousy experience to realize how good you really had it at the place you went. I've tried other hookah bars and the experience is mixed but for the most part I prefer Rotana over all of them. Rotana tends to attract a very mixed crowd. During a regular weekday you'll see older men watching soccer. Rotana is ery relaxed during the daytime hours. There's usually only one guy on shift at this time and even when it gets busy his service is impeccable. I've literally watch this guy zip and zoom from one customer to the other in order to give fast attentive service. He not only is your host and takes orders but he's also the coal guy. How he manages to do all of this at once when it's busy and rmeember what you order is beyond me. He also makes really great hookahs. Later on the evening you get a lot of late teens and twenty somethings but again the crowd is still very mixed. The regulars all know each other and are all friendly. They're definitely characters that's for sure. Rotana is one of the few hookah bars that's open 24/7 which is really convenient. The service at night is just as good as the daytime. There are a lot more people on staff but there's also more customers in the evening. The hookah prices range from $8-16 depending on what you order. They don't serve alcohol but they do have great smoothies and tea options. read more

Bf and I are regulars for a couple years now so we're pretty much friendly with the guys who work there (Ahmed and Yakmed(?) in particular). The spot used to be half the size it is now because the back was closed for renovations but now that renovations are over, the back has a beautiful see-through ceiling (kind of like the ones in the mall where you can look up and determine the weather). There are many seats, enough to seat twos or groups. Crowd - a mixture of natives to Queens and other people who come from outer borough. However, they are all friendly and just there to have a good time so you're not dealing with a crowd who think they're better than everyone else. You have guys who are there all day playing chess or the regulars who come in every day/weekend to join their regular crowds or watch the game. I recommend sitting in the back if you're there to watch games just because you're away from the entrance and the TVs are a lot bigger and clearer. Staff - very nice! They're quick to take your order and someone is always walking around to change the coal. Food - they do not offer food but you're allowed to bring in food from elsewhere. There are SO many different food options surrounding the establishment to choose from that you can't really complain for their lack of food. Walk 50 feet next door and you'll find a halal joint that has practically everything. Hookah - get the Pan Masala mint! Out of all the Hookah joints in Steinway, Rotana has one of the longest lasting hookahs around! The flavor is amazing and after the first inhale, you can feel the intensity of the mint. The fruit flavors aren't bad either if you're looking for a lighter flavor. Pricing - You won't be spending more than $20 per person here. Unlike other places that try to be exclusive and think they're location in the city, Rotana is decently priced and doesn't rip you off. I'm definitely one to explore and give different places a chance before I shoot them down but Rotana is one of my top go to places in Steinway. Will be returning! read more

It's got lounge type seating, and the hookah uses the most natural coal, not coco naras. I haven't seen a place use this type of coals in years. But the problem is, those coals require constant attention. The service here did not replace the coals often enough. Seating wasn't the best either. This lounge is very spacey, comfortable and the staff is friendly and attentive. The couches & seats are all very snug and I love how they had the moveable arm cushions so you can place it to your own comfort. The hookah variety is great with tons of flavors and options, for $11.99 you can't go wrong! And there is no hassle on if they will change your coal enough, they consistently made rounds to change the coals and keep the hookah fresh. We also ordered the Egyptian tea which is $3 a cup (you receive a pot) and it is delicious! The perfect combo to go with hookah. We had such a great and relaxing time here. They also don't over do it with the music, leaving it at a good enough volume that you can hear it but it is not overpowering. This is the perfect spot to unwind and have a good conversation. Very very metallic tasting. Also ordered a Persian chai, which is just a teabag, not all that flavorful but could be way better left an oil slick in my mouth!??? I don't understand its chai, how can you even mess it up.... Definitely will not come back. Tried it, but not for me. 2 stars is generous. Thanks but no thanks. We were here for 45 minutes. I've been to plenty of hookah spots all over NYC and thus far, this place is one of my favorites in ALL of NYC. When you go down Steinway, it's what I call "Hookah lane". You'll automatically come across a copious amounts of hookah lounges and probably won't know which one to choose from. When it comes down to it, all the hookah lounges I will say are legit and beach the pants off any of the overly expensive and super duper crappy quality hookah you'll find in Manhattan. Atmosphere: If you're looking for a place that doesn't have techno or trance music blasting and all sorts of light works going on and are just looking for a place that's very casual, chill and with great customer service, this is your place. Like I said, this place is very, very casual and is nothing fancy but its nice, simple and it works. There's sofa's, dimly lit lights, a fusion of Arabic and Euro techno/house music (isn't blasting though), flat screen televisions playing whatever it is that it's playing, and an very pleasant outside seating area that's open during the warmer months. The crowd here is a mix of people, you'll see groups of people just having a hookah night, sometimes families will come here, and everyone in between enjoying some top notch hookah. It's always a calm, chill vibe. Service: One of the best things I LOVE about Rotana is its super service. The waiters here are always attentive, diligent and you don't need even need to tell them that your coal is running low, they already know whats up and have that taken care for you. Shoot, I remember one of my coals dropped and the dude picked it up with his hands. They are always super cool, super chill and they'll let you chill for as long as you want. They'll never rush you out, and I've never seen them rush anyone out. They are always on point with their service. Hookah: Of course, the MOST important part of the review. Like I've already mentioned, the hookah is on point, top notch, the BOMB and is the best hookah I've had thus far. It's really good quality hookah and most importantly, its INEXPENSIVE. Unlike the hookah in Manhattan, that requires you sign on the dotted line that you'll whore out your mother, the hookah here is only 8-14 dollars depending if you're getting regular hookah or "star buzz" hookah. Now, for those of you that don't know, star buzz hookah is the stuff that gets you "nice" and definitely calms you the fuck down. If you're not used to it though, you might throw up (like my best friend who just a weak stomach to everything in general). Besides the hookah, this place has really good tea and really good shakes, that are also CHEAP. A big mug of a shake will only cost around 3-4 bucks. Get the avocado shake, which is my personal favorite. Misc: Any other thing I love about this place is that you can bring in food from outside and there's free wifi. I brought my laptop hear once to work on some stuff and get down on some hookah. This is not only one of the best hookah joints in Steinway but definitely one of my favorites in NYC. A friend brought me here on a Thursday night. Parking wasn't very difficult to find, if you're quick and good, you can score a spot a few steps away from the place. When we entered, we were greeted by one of the staff, which was nice and since my friend didn't like the spot the staff suggested, the staff let us choose where we wanted to sit. Inside the place is nice, the music is low, and it was dim. The environment was very relaxing. I got the mango hookah, and i liked the fact that even after 2 hours, you still couldn't taste the tobacco in the hookah. pretty decent prices too since i only paid $11 for mine. Their staff also made sure that the coals were good and kept replacing them from time to time, but not in annoying interval if you get what i mean. :) The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars is coz the music wasn't very upbeat. i like that the volume was low, and me and my friend didn't need to yell at each other, but it would've been so much better if the music was better. read more

What makes this place so great versus all those others out there? - The environment is very relaxing and it is a really chill spot to go to with a big or small crowd. - Hookah quality is way better & cheaper than you'll find anywhere in Manhattan. The price range is from $9 - $14 for a hookah, depending on the flavor, which will last you a really long time. - Service is remarkably impressive. You will have guys coming around and changing your coals very often, which you just will NOT find in most places. The majority of places you get 1 coal and that's it! Not here. - You always find a diverse crowd of people here. However, you tend to see more men than women in this venue. - Everyone is either engaged in their own conversations, watching a game on the TV sets, or enjoying some snacks (which you can bring and enjoy at this establishment). - There is a patio area in the back with a couple of TV sets and tables set up. If you want to enjoy some fresh air while smoking your shisha you can come back here. The only drawback (for some) might be that this place doesn't serve ANY alcohol. You have to keep in mind that you are going to an authentic hookah bar, which if it's authentic you won't find any liquor on the menu. Personally, the hookah quality is so good and strong that I don't mind not having alcohol at all. I went here for the first time on a Wednesday night with a friend. The look and feel of the the place is pretty dope - red couches and seats with very friendly and funny staff. The lights are on but it's not lit up like you're in a store. More of an adult atmosphere. We were seated immediately and given a menu filled with all types of hookah flavors. One thing for sure is this place has SO MANY hookah flavor options and the flavors last WAY LONGER than most hookah spots on Steinway. I don't know what it is, but the flavor is stronger, taste better, and last longer. I shared a hookah with my friend for about 3 hours and never needed a refill of the hookah. I also liked the fact that right above the seats are outlets. Being able to charge my phone right where I'm sitting is a great thing. I was just witness to one of these altercations, and two 'yewts' were arrested. On a Wednesday night, right in the middle of the holidays. Whether it's Astoria, Bayside, Forest Hills, or Jamaica, you will never find yourself lacking in what, as a born and raised Queens resident, I call "The Cretins of Queens". One of the 'yewts' just yelled, "I'm only fifteen," while pinned against a squad car, in handcuffs. Ah, how precocious! We are one of the largest boroughs, second only to Brooklyn by population, yet I think we have the least number of retail book stores.
