I am writing this for my husband Don since he just had his procedure for Dupuytren contracture on his left and right hand today. Dr. Nathan and his staff were very attentive and professional. In fact, Sylvia helped us over the phone with our appointment and since we were traveling a distance was able to ensure that our trip would address the consultation and procedure. By emailing Dr. Nathan in advance and sending in a survey along with photos, we were surprised that Dr. Nathan called us within a day and made us feel so comfortable with the decision. When we were in the office today, Dr. Nathan addressed all of the options available and spent a solid hour including the procedure. It was painless (aside from the fact that my husband is a little sketchy about injections to numb the area). "Dr. Nathan was friendly and addressed every concern I had and even the things I didn't know I had questions about and was so friendly. He actually cared more than most doctors I have seen in years. The best part of all is that my hands are open and my fingers are straight, it is in my mind a miracle and I am very grateful." My husband had tears as we headed home and now just 8 hours later he is doing just fine. I have to ask, why choose surgery? For anyone suffering from this condition, I totally recommend Dr. Nathan. We are so blessed to have found him.' Thank you Dr. Nathan! read more

Very thankful for the expertise delivered by Dr. Nathan and his staff. The staff was kind and efficient, the office lovely, and the information and medical attention I was given started me on my way to a successful result. I highly recommend this doctor and office. read more

You know I hesitated when I first came to yelp to check on a new dr. I couldnt tell what I was in for when I read all the reviews. It seemed like dr nathan was good at what he did but had no bedside manner. We took a chance and brought our son here anyway. Since the peds and another ortho referred him. I am so glad we did. His staff was cordial and explained everything to our understanding re: insurance. Our appt was midday and there were maybe 4 other people on waiting room. We didnt wait too long, maybe 10 min. The nurse assistant was very nice and he came in right away. He was spoke kindly with my son. He explained everything, thoroughly to us. He was sweet to my 2yr old, who had just awakened from his nap. He didnt seem particularly rushed. He drew a pic of the injury my son had. He said what it was and explained how it happened. I'm visual and that was so helpful. Answered questions and even asked if we had anything else for him before we left. I really thought it was efficient that he did his own xrays. He said-yup it's just faster! Absolutely!! He sees it. He assesses it and there is no wait time. If we ever have a hand a wrist problem I will definitely come back here!! read more

Dr. Nathan performed a surgery on my daughter's broken hand which went very well. He was able to diagnose the broken Scaphoid bone in about 5 mins when other doctors said it was a sprained wrist. Dr. Nathan is the best! read more

Great job... suggested that I don't consider surgery until I am in more pain. Check back with him in about 6 months to reevaluate my condition. read more

A big thank you to Dr Nathan! He was very accommodating to make sure my procedure was completed in time to still be covered by my insurance before it changed. His staff and the staff at the surgery center were very kind and helpful . read more

Dr. Nathan is amazing! I had broken my wrist and was told that it wasn't broken. I was in pain and went to see Dr. Nathan and it was quite clear it was broken. He could tell right away. Dr. Nathan took care of it and my wrist is all healed. He is very knowledgeable and very caring. I highly recommend Ross Nathan, M.D. A++++ read more

I was shocked by the billing at the therapy center. I was never told paraffin treatments would be 50.00. I was told as a cash payment patient I would pay 75.00 a visit....much more after they tacked on all the extra services. Great place however ask how they bill before you commit! read more

Sooo glad I decided to go see Dr. Nathan! He came highly recommended by some people in one of the Dupuytren's face book groups. Before I found out about him I was planning on going to go to a doctor in the Bay Area who also gets high reviews, but his go to procedure is to use Xiaflex injections which research has shown is NO more effective than the needle aponeurotmy procedure, but costs much much more and can actually do damage if not applied correctly (it's a harsh chemical). Although Dr Nathan could use Xiaflex and pad his wallet he is a man of integrity and chooses to do what's right for the patient rather than what is right for his bank account. Found out he was trained by the creator of the Needle aponeurotomy procedure and has been using this method for many years. It is safe, effective and well researched. If I ever have need to see a hand specialist again, I will see Dr Nathan. Hope he doesn't plan on retiring for many years! read more

Horrible! Unless your problem is obvious, (fracture hands, clear numbness) this place is a waste of time. Front desk were kind, but Nathan's bed side manner was horrible! He seems to be in a rush and wouldn't hear my story. For those who are experiencing hand pain, numbness, etc get your neck check out first! That may be the source of your problem. Coming here was a complete waste of time and money, esp when he doesn't seem to care about helping. read more

I wrote a statement awhile back and feel Dr. Ross Nathan and his staff at The Hand & Wrist Center deserve another glowing review! Being a patient here means something needs to be corrected pertaining to your hands or wrist, which if anyone has ever had to have surgery done on either knows it can be a pain in the neck because of the inconvenience of having your hand(s) out of commission, and so we tend to put stuff off. Dr. Nathan is so good at what he does that the out-patient surgery he's performed on me, and I recently needed another procedure, is done with such precision that he doesn't have his patients out-of-commission for very long! And he corrects the issue with 100% results, at least in my case! There's a reason everyone is referred to Dr. Ross Nathan and that's because he's that good, and he's also very kind, along with knowing it's important to explain things to his patients so we understand what is going to happen (he's famous for drawing pictures!) and what to expect in our recovery. His staff is just as nice, professional and efficient. I never like to have an issue with my hands but if I do I immediately get an appointment and take care of getting the best advice I know I can receive from Dr. Nathan! Highly recommend this doctor and his office! read more

Went to see dr Nathan for a hand fracture and he was excellent and extremely knowledgeable! The time he spent explaining my injury to me and the prognosis and treatment options exceeded my expectations and was much more in depth than most surgeons that just want to get you under the knife as quick as possible. Made me feel very comfortable and confident about my injury . Very professional, friendly and a really nice guy would definitely recommend if you have a need for a great hand specialist!! read more

I saw Dr Nathan this morning I was told he took over for Dr Macer who I loved. I have severe tendonitis in my left wrist, Dr Macer a year ago gave me a cortisone injection and said....if something comes up come back, over a year later I go in and see Dr Nathan and I will NEVER RETURN! He did a great job on examining my wrist, then wrote down what he felt it was and I had 3 options, the 1st ice/phys therapy I told him I had tried both, the 2nd was a cortisone shot which may/may not help and the 3rd was surgery, surgery as he said was 99% effective. I explained to Dr Nathan who doesn't even deserve the respectful title 'Dr', that I am a Factor VIII Bleeder, surgeries are not easy for me, I need all sorts of things done prior and then I mentioned I even tried acupuncture....maybe that was the straw that flipped him out....as he said....acupuncture, go try CBD, all those things won't work and he kept pointing to option 3...surgery. I told him I'd like a shot so he immediately gave me one, he was not nice and then told me....I will not see you again for 'that wrist problem'. I am now filing a complaint against him with the Medical Board. The young doctor in training needs to take a closer look at some doctor who is against anything but what he wants, he made me feel like I was stupid because I tried alternative treatment, he himself never even suggested a different form of physical therapy. When he left the room I asked the gal if he was mad and she just shrugged her shoulders. The staff is great he's a bona fide dinosaur who should just hang up his white coat and to retire far far away. I recommend him to no one and right now am contacting the Medical Board of California. read more

Dr. Nathan was able to perform a procedure that wasn't necessarily expected at the time of my appointment and I'm very grateful he did. His efforts went over and above expectations and saved me lots of pain not to mention recovery time (if I had waited). I would definitely recommend. read more

I'm not sure why this Dr is getting any good reviews. My son went to see him last month for hand injury. He probably waited longer than he should have but never the less Dr Nathan could of been polite, understaning and should have explained things better. Instead he was rude and condescending and offered no care what so ever ! He was being followed around by an intern and I suppose he wanted to look like a "big Shot" or something. We are "paying patients" for God sakes and deserved better care and treatment. He should go work for an HMO if he wants to treat patients this way! read more

I went to Dr. Nathan as my second opinion for cubital tunnel syndrome. I had numbness in my pinky & half my ring finger. I met with Dr. Nathan and was immediately put at ease. He has a great bedside manner, something my original orthopedist did not. He clearly and in simple terms explained what he would do if I chose him to perform my surgery. He told me about the healing process and the results I could expect. The surgery was performed on 5/20/14 at the Long Beach Surgery Center near LB Memorial. The entire staff there was terrific! The follow up visit with Dr. Nathan went well and I did not even need physical therapy. I have some feeling returning to my fingers and I am so happy I took Dr. Nathan's advice to have the surgery. As far as I am concerned, Dr. Nathan is the top in his field. If you need any care for your hand or wrist, he is the doctor to see! read more

Dr. Nathan is top notch. I suffered from Carpel Tunnel on my right hand for MANY YEARS. It was so bad my hand was constantly numb, tingling and felt cold. He performed CP surgery on my hand in November 2012. He changed my daily life - plain and simple. I now can hold a book to read to my children, play tennis, drive my car, bring in grocery bags and many other daily tasks with any pain, tingling, numbness or discomfort. Dr. Nathan is awesome and I have already recommended him to many friends and some complete strangers. You'd be lucky to get an apt. With him. read more

if i could give dr. nathan and his staff 10 stars i would! beyond professional and detailed oriented - every aspect of the process for my surgery was clearly explained. surgery on my right hand, after years of suffering and procrastinating was executed without an issue.... highly recommend dr. nathan for ANY hand/wrist issues! read more

Great doctor. Very smart, practical and would highly recommend him. Office staff was excellent.

I broke my right index finger-- and I am right handed. Dr. Ross gave excellent-- if very firm-- guidance on how to not end up crippled and my healing process went great. He also helped me avoid surgery. The office lost a star though, because I waited more than 30 minutes past my appointment time for almost every one of my 5 visits. read more

I am livid! We went today to see Dr Nathan for my 7 week old daughter. We sat in the waiting room for over an hour (which is very difficult with an infant). We then asked when we'd see the doctor, and the receptionist said 5 minutes. Now baby and twin sister are crying and hungry. After another 10 minutes, I asked if over an hour wait is typical for their office. The receptionist said that there were some add ins today, which apparently take priority over those with appointments. After an hour and fifteen minutes of waiting, we left without seeing the doctor. No apologies from the receptionists, just blank stares. No one should have to wait over an hour to see a doctor when you have an appointment! Especially with two infants. WTF! Should have just gone to the ER- we would have seen a doctor sooner. After all that, you'd think they would call to apologize or at least to reschedule- nope. Obviously, patient satisfaction is not their thing. FYI- I am not one to post on yelp, but this was absolutely unacceptable. read more

Best hand Doctor in the world, I know I am overly enthusiastic but I put off Carpal Tunnel surger for 12 years due to the fear of pain, I had seen others a long time ago have the surgery. Dr. Nathan told me if was no big deal but I had doubts. Put off for all of the years and then I could no longer cope with the pain and not sleeping. I booked the surgery and was told I could drive there and didn't need anyone to drive me home! I used to panic if I couldmn't find my wrist brace every night it was so bad! I went into the surgery and even the local pain block did not hurt when given. Dr. Nathan Knows how to miss nerves he is so experienced. Walked out after surgery with a small cast on hand which left fingers free. A day ir two later that came off and was replaced with a bandaid. Easy use The day of surgery - fingers. NO PAIN! After band aid full use of hand. No wrist and hand pain anymore! Seemed like a miracle after waking up each night in agony. Just do it! Technology has come so far and he is an expert! No big on small talk, he is an expert and wants to do his job! Wish I hadn't waited so long but then maybe I wouldn't have found this physician! Small 1/2 inch scar, no pain, able to sleep all night - perfect Doctor and I am grateful!! read more

I saw Ross Nathan at the beginning of the summer for some carpal tunnel symptoms I was experiencing from office work and couldn't have regretted the experience more. I had to wait for over an hour to see a nurse before even getting in to see him. When I was finally granted access to him 1.5 hours after my scheduled appointment time, his bedside manner was rude, angry and condescending. Because I was not at a level where I didn't need surgery, he acted like it was an insult that I had come in for a consultation and to get his advice on preventative measures. His mood was so foul that I wondered if he was having some kind of issue or mental breakdown- he did not appear to have the most rudimentary social skills of how to interact with a patient. I'm extremely non-critical when it comes to doctors-- I've never complained about one and never left a yelp review for anything but Ross Nathan was so awful that I'm making an exception. I basically left in tears, which was a first for me. To top it all off, even though I have excellent PPO insurance that covers basically everything, I've received a bill from them for an additional amount due which has never happened in my 13 years of working for my organization. It absolutely slays me that I'm going to have to pay them money when I feel I should be reimbursed for such an unpleasant and useless experience. From the mixed reviews I'm seeing for him it appears that if you have to have a surgery, he sounds good, but if not, avoid him at all costs! read more
