This is really a 1/2 star review by the way. Came in after scheduling an appointment 2 weeks in advance. All paperwork filled out, and or updated. The receptionists and the insurance verifiers are the worst. Very unprofessional, I had to literally yell to get my point across because they were looking at my old plan. Our 8 year old broke her pinky at school. We were referred to The Hand & Wrist Center and were able to get an appointment that afternoon! Everyone was extremely friendly and professional. I was emailed the forms to fill out online and also received confirmation when the completed forms were received. Over the last 17 years, I have had the displeasure of having surgery for ulnar nerve, cubital tunnel, carpel tunnel, trigger finger; you name it. Every surgery was performed by Dr. Nathan with 100 % recovery and satisfaction. I read a review that Dr. Nathan was rude. He is not rude; he is a busy doctor and doesn't have time to stroke patients "woe is me" egos. He is a matter of fact, to the point, no nonsense, "here's your options" doctor. Reading between the lines, the complainers expected him to walk them through their self pity, and give them an hour of his time for the money they spend. It doesn't work that way folks. Dr. Nathan is well renowned specialist, and does not have time to socialize with you in the office; he spends that time in the surgery room, where actions / results speak louder than "bedside" chat. Afraid to have surgery after knowing someone who did 30 years ago. Put it off until pain was unbearable! Awoke with Hand pain every night even when I wore splint to bed and limited use of hand during day. It was running my life and used pain killers to function. Dr. Nathan saw me. He is an Exceptional, professional, and talented surgeon. He explained that surgery was done using local instead of general anesthesia. That frightened me! But Dr. Nathan is such an expert the local did not hurt at all! Surgery was completed quickly! I was lying down and the area was obscured from my sight. Could not fell anything in hand. Cast on hand to limit use and protect. Cast was removed after two days. No real soreness, no using a brace at night after the next couple of days after surgery. Went back sutures removed which as also painless! No pain at night or day seems like a miracle! Don't be a chicken like I was for so many years and continue to suffer. See Dr. Nathan and believes what he says when he tells you how easy and successful the surgery will be! One week later and already healed! I went to Dr. Nathan when an injury left me with the condition known as "mallet finger." The emergency room doctor gave me a plastic splint that did not fit well and handed me a business card for Dr. Nathan's Hand and Wrist Center. I'm glad she did, because this never would have healed properly if I had used the splint I got from the E-room. The treatment for mallet finger consisted of splinting the finger for 6 weeks and I had the splint changed weekly by Dr. Nathan's staff for the first 4 weeks. After that, I changed it myself for the last couple of weeks. I received excellent treatment and am on my way to a full recovery. I highly recommend Dr. Nathan if you have any type of hand or wrist injury. When these types of injuries are not treated properly from the start, the result could be a prolonged injury or mild deformity that can only be addressed through surgery. read more

I was very disappointed with with Dr Ross Nathen. I went to the consultation with xrays and a dr's referral. He took xrays - and charged me. he sent me to have tests (again charged me) 500$. After all that, I was told there was nothing wrong with me and thus there was nothing he could do for me. Odd as I was referred to him by TWO different doctors who saw the problem immediately. My hands and thumb joints were so swollen and the pain was so bad, i could barely stand it. I went to my rheumatologist the day after his diagnosis (or lack thereof), as injected my thumbs, commented that it was odd that he couldn't see it. It was that obvious. The injections she gave lasted for about 3 years. My thumbs have now gone on to bone degeneration with arthritis and I really need see a hand and wrist specialist. Guess who I WON'T see. read more

I called Dr. Nathan's office on a Monday from a weekend fracture on my hand and they scheduled me the same day. They advised me that I would have to wait longer than usual because they were busy. I didn't want to go to a place that had many people because I didn't want it to be a rushed process but the receptionist insisted that it wouldn't be a rushed process and that the doctor would take his time with me, so I went forward with my appointment. I get to the place and yes, it is super busy, I waited an hour and a half after my appointment time. Finally the doctor see's me and the process is super rushed he didn't even explain my options. The doctor put a splint on my broken hand and sent me on my way (I posted a picture of the splint). I'm not a doctor but I don't think I have to be a doctor to know that a splint doesn't protect you a well as a fiberglass cast. I went to another doctor (Dr. Andrew Lim from Hermosa Beach) to get a second opinion and it was like night and day. I was his only patient for about an hour and he took his time with me explained all my options and put me on a cast (also posted a picture of the cast). If you have insurance you shouldn't have to wait long, there are many good doctors available that are willing to take their time with you. read more

Nathan Ross by my rheumatologist 4 synovitis the right wrist my rheumatologist sent two referrals to his office I was told I never received them but yet they knew how to spell my last name correctly odd when I called again this morning to schedule an appointment I was informed that they accept Medicare but not Medical so I would have to come up with approximately $500 before I see the doctor so I was on the website looking at the prices I only need a steroid injection be a rheumatologist and that's only $85 so I do question his office staff considerably so I'm left with the feeling if you have Medi-Cal and Medicare if your elderly disabled or poor Healthcare is a luxury not a necessity you can't pay you don't get treated not a very comforting thought read more

Kim took my insurance info and promised a call back with a quote. She insisted on making me an appointment. Two days later and a day before the appontment and still no quote I called them. Three rude receptionists would not give me a quote. Tried to teach ME how the insurance works instead of calling my insurance company and giving me the quote. According to the others this is the common practice in this office and doctors do not care. I any very pleased with the procedure performed. By Dr. Ross. Nathen that corrected the ninety degree bend in the little finger of my right hand. I have had more then a dozen operations to correct the effects of dupuytren's contracture over the last forty five years. The procedure performed by Dr. Nather in his office used a needle procedure that straitened the finger in less then ten minutes. The little finger is now the straightest finger on that hand. I was referred to Dr. Nathan by my doctor to remove a ganglion cyst than has been troubling me for 10 years now. It was very painful, and held me back from many things that I wanted to do. My family finally reached a time where it worked out well with our insurance, so we decided to have it removed, finally! During the consultation, Dr. Nathan was amazing in helping me understand all my options, and the pros and cons of each. Also, he drew on a piece of paper what was actually happening inside my wrist, which was awesome! I was already set on surgery, and this consultation really helped to affirm and understand my decision. In between my consultation and actual surgery, the office staff and the Hand and Wrist Center was amazing in helping me navigate all of the logistics of appointments and insurance. Monica - the surgery coordinator - was AMAZING and was very patient and helpful with my many calls and questions. On the day of surgery, Dr. Nathan talked with me before and after surgery. He truly has my best interest in mind and has done a lot to ensure that I fully recover from the inherent stiffness after surgery. I'm still in the recovery process, and still have to go back, but this process has been great so far and I'm so happy to be recovering from something that has been hurting me for HALF of my life. Upon arriving and filling out my paperwork, was told they "may or may not" take my insurance and we wouldn't know for sure until after the appointment. I've never heard of this type of practice and it's certainly not acceptable to me. Shame on the front staff for misleading potential patients on the phone. Dr. Nathan does a good job, however his business practices and billing process are unethical. Because of that I cannot recommend him or his office. He chose to perform my procedure in his office because the surgical center he has an ownership stake in was out of network for my insurance. I agreed to this because it was a relatively straight forward procedure. His office provided me an all inclusive agreed to price to be paid at the time of the procedure. I paid this amount as requested. Since then (15 months ago) I have received monthly bills from his office. I have contacted them and explained the situation. I have even provided them with the documentation proving the amount I owed and paid. They are now threatening to take this to a collection agency. Lesson learned, I should have taken my business elsewhere when Dr. Nathan refused to use an alternative surgery center. The undue harassment of receiving monthly bills and the unethical practices of not honoring our agreement are the reason for the negative review and the single star. read more

He has shown himself to be very professional with excellent training and a world of experience that he shares with his patients. I have had dupuytrens contracture for nearly 10 years...slowly getting worse. I went to a highly rated orthopedic surgeon close to where I live who wanted to perform the Xiaflex treatment to straighten the 80% curve in my ring finger. When I got home, I went on WebMD and read approx 80 reviews from people having this barbaric and painful treatment including the time consuming therapy sessions. After a lot of investigation including some excellent "comments" on Youtube concerning Dr. Nathan and his needle aponeurotomy treatment of dupuytren's, I cancelled the appointment with the first doctor and scheduled an appointment to see Dr. Nathan. It was worth the 100 mile drive! Dr. Nathan and his entire staff are total professionals in their field. It's hard to believe that I left this problem (couldn't even wear a golf glove) for many years, and Dr. Nathan had the problem resolved in about 30 minutes. The 80% curve became immediately straight! He freezes the finger and hand in strategic places and then uses a needle type tool which you don't feel, to cut the cord in your finger and hand which releases the contracture. I honestly didn't know about this treatment, and for years had thought that hospitalization was the only solution. I would give Dr. Nathan 6 stars if possible and am typing this report less than 24 hours after my ring finger was straightened. (Couldn't type with it 2 days ago). If you have this problem and are searching around...believe me, you can't go wrong with Dr. Nathan. The negative reviews that some others are posting are hard to believe...like 3 stars because reviewer couldn't find the phone number?????? Thank you Dr. Nathan and staff. When I called to make an appointment, the receptionist did not inform me that the bill upfront - they call your insurance company and find out how much they THINK you'll have to pay. When I found this out at the office, the receptionist said "well, the person who booked you checked this box saying she told you that." Well, she didn't. Fine. They estimated that I would have to pay $150 up front based on what my insurance told them. I told them I wasn't comfortable with this, especially not even having seen the doctor yet, and finally they relented that they would bill my insurance AFTER service was provided and send me a bill, like how a normal office operates. An hour after my appointment time, I got to see Dr. Nathan. To say that his bedside manner is lacking is an understatement. He cut me off multiple times to dictate into chart notes on his computer. I intended to ask him about another wrist problem that I'd had, and he told me "I don't want to hear about that. I just want to hear about what you came in for today." He insisted that the problem was a nerve palsy caused by sports wrist guards, but gave me no care instructions and sent me on my way. This was in October. Thanks to icing my wrist, I am no longer having issues with numbness. I was expecting to pay the full $150 estimated by reception, but just received a bill YESTERDAY. For $90 - the ACTUAL amount that I owe, because insurance covered more than what the office said they would. I'm a musician, and I take a very active approach to protecting the health of my hands. I won't come back here, nor would I recommend him to musician friends. UPDATE, 6/12/17 I received yet another bill for the same appointment on 10/24. The billing department says I didn't receive a bill in January, and that my check "must have gotten lost." They say they have no record of that bill on my account. Long story short, I have to put a stop payment on a check, their billing department has no idea what's going on, and they made a thousand excuses for themselves. read more

Dr. Nathan is a lifesaver. I am a violinist and rock climber with 7 severed tendons, a median nerve, and artery in my left hand. When the accident happened I didn't know what was going to happen to my career, my love for climbing, and my life in general. I visited doctors and surgeons and they all told me with my injury I would never play again......but not Dr. Nathan. He had a plan, he had confidence, and he believed in me. He gave me options, a future, something I could cling to and fight for. Dr. Nathan and his lead physical therapist cared so much about my music even on a personal level. They created special slings and specific physical theory exercises to prepare my hand for violin playing. My heart goes out to everyone at the Hand and Wrist Center. They gave me my life back. Dr. Ross Nathan is an excellent surgeon. I am an athlete and depend on my body to function at a 10 at all times. As I'm getting older this isnt always the case. Two of my training passions are yoga and boxing, both which require hand/wrist strenth. I developed pain in my right wrist due to the overuse. Highly recommend. Reviews are subjective, for all who read these. Negative reviews for waiting at a doctors office or complaints that the doctors bedside manner sucked because he seemed in a hurry.... get over yourself. If the doctor sat and chat with you, then everyone else needing his help would have to wait longer. He's there to help you with your problem and move on to the next person who has a problem or injury. I called after a visit to urgent care, where they could offer no solutions for a broken bone in my hand. The staff set up an appointment the very same day. They did informed me, I may have to wait beyond my appointment time, due to the doctor's already busy day. Broken hand...I'll take what I can get....I waited no longer than I have at any other doctor's office. The staff was helpful and professional. On a Wednesday (11/18), I scheduled an appointment for the following Tuesday (11/24) (almost 1 week later). On the day of my appt., about 1.5 hours before the scheduled appointment, I got a call from the office staff. They informed me that their office does not accept my insurance. Mind you I gave them my insurance card on the Wednesday I walked in to make my appointment. I have a broken bone in my hand and if it doesn't heal properly, I may lose mobility and live with it for the rest of my life. Dr. Macer and Dr. Nathan... You might want to hire more efficient help for your front desk. They waited until the day of my appointment!!!! POOR POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. Wish I could rate the Doctors, but I never got that far. Professional, responsive, experienced. A positive experience in all respects. My issue is with Dupuytren's in my right hand. Before I even scheduled an appointment, I sent an email inquiry with background and questions. Dr Nathan responded to each of my questions within a day and helped me understand what my options were. When I traveled to Long Beach for a consultation, the staff in the office was helpful and efficient, and Dr Nathan gave me his undivided attention and focus for 45 minutes, enough time to examine my hand in detail and explain my condition and all possible options (including a couple I wasn't aware of, even though I'd done quite a bit of research). Our mutual conclusion was that it did not make sense to do anything at this time (even though that meant they would only be getting the fee for the consult). If I do decide at a later time to have a procedure done on my hand, Dr Nathan is my guy. read more

Dr. Ross is the best hand doctor I have ever been to see. I've have had surgeries by 2 within the past ten years and have consultations with several more. I have Dubytrins (sp?) syndrome in both hands. Dr Ross patiently and clearly explained several treatment options. I selected one which he performed on the spot which was more effective that the previous two procedures that had been performed and the recovery time was hours instead of many weeks. He did this in spite of the fact that he would have received more money from the insurance company if he had performed a surgery as the previous doctors had done.
