I came to the location to use the Navy Federal ATM and I thought I'd stop in since Ross is typically Open later than most stores. Just to be sure I called and asked if they were open and what time until and it was about 9:45 and the girl on the phone said "we close in 10 minutes" I said "you don't close at 11? " just to be sure. So I recently switched from my purse to a diaper bag because I'm pregnant and I was wearing a dress that kind of gets hiked up as I walk and I was wearing a overcoat that ties and doesn't button so generally my outfit was pretty annoying and I was struggling to like pull my dress down and put my bag strap back on my shoulder as it kept slipping off since it's a big bag. I was holding one pair of shoes, one pair of sandals and trying on sunglasses and then I walked over to the pajama section where I was confronted by an employee who said I was putting things in my bag and I need to step outside. I reassured her. I was not putting anything in my bag and I opened my bag to show her and I told her what my outfit situation was and that I am very pregnant which is why I'm struggling and it would be nice to be offered a cart, instead of be greeted by being accused of stealing immediately..... so she brought me a cart which was nice of her and I told her I had to run and check the rugs really fast because that was the whole reason I came in, i wanted to see what rugs they had. I told her I would've had more time earlier, but I was informed that the store was closing at 10:00, not 11 so I actually was in the parking lot doing a couple things when I realized that they indeed were not closed as I saw people coming and going at about 10:20. Realizing they were still open i called again and they said "11:00" this time and it was a different person who picked up. I just wanted to run in and see if they had anything different from the Rosses by my house just because sometimes one store has different inventory than another location. After this experience, I probably won't be coming back to this Ross just because like most stores these days Customer Service is dead. If you see somebody who looks like they're stealing you're supposed to go up to them and offer them a cart or basket you're not supposed to accuse them right away what you think is going on only to find out you're wrong. But I guess people don't really care about their source of income (the customers) these days. People don't like doing their jobs because it's not their store and they don't own it. I have been to so many stores that try to close the door (refuse me coming in) 10 minutes early, when I'm literally gonna run in and buy some thing and then run back out knowing I have 10 minutes. I have spent $200 in 10 minutes before I'm pretty sure the owner of that store would like to make that $200 really quick, right? It seems like people want to leave work as if their house is on fire or some huge emergency is in progress when in reality the situation is: you work at a store that closes at 10? Well that means doors stay open until 10, which means you as an employee should expect to be off about 15-40 (depending on your position) minutes after that time. No one likes when customers come in last minute but it's your job also to inform them of when you close and urge them to start wrapping it up (walking to the register) when it's about 3-4 minutes until close. It's not like every customer wants to stay for a half hour over just because they came in late. When it is 30 minutes, 45 minutes, and 10 minutes until close, you announce store is closing soon to get people ready for it. The ones that are hovering around the back you inform them that you are closing soon and you ask them if they need anything like a basket or some help with their stuff up to the front. That is how you run a store, when people walk in, you're supposed to greet them and if you see them struggling, you're supposed to offer them a cart or a basket as opposed to flat out accuse them of stealing l!!!! The exception to that rule is that you saw it for real, you, not your bored co-workers. Unless you physically saw it with your own two eyes, the customer stealing by putting things in their pants or their coats or their bags intentionally, you can only have a suspicion they are stealing, and that's when you come up to them and offer them a cart or a basket and you follow up with them frequently so they feel they are being watched. I really really like this ROSS location. Unlike Ross stores in "nicer" areas, this Ross actually has a good inventory throughout the year. I feel that other locations run out of nice dress shirts, shoes, and ties really fast. This Compton location always has something that I like whenever I am looking for an article of clothing for different ocasions. Some of my favorite brands that they carry at this location include Calvin Klein, Perry Ellis, Guess, and Levi's! I also play sports and they have great selections for Basketball shoes or baseball/Soccer shoes! My only complaint would be the lack of cashiers available during the week. That is not a huge problem, as the store itself is busy most of the time. But even with the busy atmosphere, you're sure to find something you will like! read more

OK Here's the deal. Most of the reviews here are not real Ross shoppers Ross is not for people that usually shop at nice stores. Its not Macy's, its not Bloomingdales, so don't expect something clean and nice. Ross is a place where you have to fight and SEARCH for your clothes.  If you go to Ross, you got to have a open mind and look through the rubble of things you wear; pants, dresses, shorts, shirts, etc, AND YOU NEED TO LOOK EVERYWHERE. If you casually look for a pair of black pants for a party, and go to the pants section and look for your size, you're not going to find shit. Ross isn't like that. People that go to Ross pick up what they like, they think about it for a while, realize that $16.00 is a lot for that shirt, and put it at the closest place they're at. Ross isn't highly respected by anyone, it is just used for the shopper's benefits. Ross is going to smell, Ross is going to be messy, Ross is going to be gross at times, but that is what you get for discount shopping at Ross; you have to work at it. If you want to feel good about shopping at a discount, but never did it before, then go to Lohemans. However, this isn't going to be a bad review. As someone who has shopped at Ross for a long time, I know my fair share. The dress section can be pretty good, but you have to go a couple of times to find your style. Shirts, can suck a bit, it can be hard to find a good pair. Pants, I have not been successful at. Shorts; I think I bought one pair. Parking here is really easy, the other customers are a bit weird so just don't talk to them. The major drawback is the lines to buy your stuff. I noticed on multiple occasions when I walked in there were no Black cashiers. I didn't let that deter me from applying. I even called to ask if they were hiring and they were. Surprise! They never called me back. This location does not hire Black people and it saddens me that they don't give everyone in the community an opportunity to work. read more

I can't really comment on the clothing here because I mainly go to Ross for toy hunting. That said their toys section was pretty good. You can find some nice things here that went on clearance from other stores. This time they had some My Little Pony and tons of the dancing poop unicorn, poopsie slime and dolls. This time I was lucky to find the Wild Hearts Crew shoved in the back of the stacks. Parking is pretty easy but the one thing that was annoying was how long it took to get through the line. The people with clothing took forever. Then a return customer cut in front of the purchase line like well um ok thanks? I guess I will wait longer? Lady at the counter couldn't get me moving faster like buying one thing was not worth her time? It's fine. I don't see myself coming back to this location. read more

I went to buy a large luggage 11/17/2020 at 10am and found the biggest one they had an last one it was a 5 piece set when the cashier opened it, it didn't have the 4 other sets of it she was very nice and I asked if I can still buy but not for the price they were selling it because it was missing four items she went an asked her manager CARLOS and he said they couldn't sell it because it was missing so many items and it needed to get repriced so I asked if he could just do any discount cause I needed it an he said no he had no consideration I would of been okay if It would of been 20percent off. I just needed that luggage cause I'm flying tomorrow so that was my experience at Ross with CARLOS he could of done something for me to be able to buy that luggage. Winter time is comming so winter clothes are needed. So the GF says lett's check out the Ross Down at the Towne Center. Which one? Long Beach? Nope, Compton. It's actually a big plaza of everything. The store has everything. I like checking out there gadgets and games. This Ross is pretty clean and neat. I've been to others where it's likea disaster area, with clothes on the floor, shoes that don't match, and workers that don't care. This one we were greeted at the door and the employees asking if you need help. Clean and organized, nice staff what more can you ask for. This is definately a Ross worth checking out. And the checkout stands are fast. With bank style monitors to tell you which cashier is ready. If the line is long don't worry, it'll move fast. read more

This Ross like most of the other locations tends to get very busy especially during the weekends. However a line of at least 50 people at this particular location checks every customer out in less than 10 minutes of waiting which is unheard of. (I am basing this off of 3 different shopping experiences on the weekends Sat/Sun and there has to be at least 5 cashiers with 1 return line open) The only thing annoying are the screaming children...it's like Chuck E Cheese and Disneyland combined. You probably would have to tune every friggin noise out by writing a yelp review. I can't really comment of the women's and children's offering but I can tell you that their men's shoe section isn't all that great. Other locations have Nike, Jordans, Pumas, Converse, and so on but every time I hit this place up they only seem to have Reeboks and US Polo Association! They do stock Kenneth Cole, Calvin Klein, Quicksilver, Nike, Timberland, and other brand names. They also stock Dodgers, Lakers, and Raiders gear at some crazy marked down prices. Clearance racks are hit and miss unless you wear size 50+ they have tons of stuff in that section. Overall the store is clean and if it's messy it's because those crazy children keep grabbing stuff in the aisles and leaving them in the most random places. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I came in to get two suitcases and a few clothes for my grandmother. Customer service was beyond horrible. And when I say horrible, I mean Horrible. They basically tell the customer to do their job because they're apparently too slow to work the register. Not only did they make me take all the hangers off the clothing, but the cashier left the censors on them as well. Might as well have a self checkout if that's the case! Lines are always long and slow, which is the main reason I only visit this Ross once every other month. It's real simple, I go on a weekday when they first open, look around for different hidden sale items, and then I'm out. I always find a bargain here from shoes to home goods. The store itself is always messy, not my concern like I said in and out. The cashiers and security are always pleasant at least. read more

Not a bad ross I snagged a pot to brew my green tea for $21!

My all time " favorite " was the fact that we asked a security if we can take our dollar tree bag in, which he allows us to but then sends a security to follows us around as if we are intended to rob the store. We notice right away which resulted for them to send a second security to watch us. Which is disturbing because for one they could have told us that " oh I can hold the bag for you, or no you can't take the bag in but you can give it to the cashier and they can hold it for you" yet they didn't. If I could give this store 0 stars I would, thanks to yelp 1 star it is. I seriously can't believe the way that I was treated here today, i have a 3 year old with a disability, but for shopping purposes I decided to leave her wheel chair at home and use a shopping cart. I asked to take the cart and the 4 things I had to try on in to the dressing room, because I wasn't going to sit my toddler on the floor. The attendant at the dressing room said i couldn't take it in. I explained to her my situation and still was given a no. I asked to speak to a manager and a few minutes later was greeted by the manager on duty Daniel, who also said there was nothing they could do, i couldn't take the cart. After explaining again my situation he told me "this time u can, but we can't do it again." I said "So what you're telling me is that you guys can't accomadte my daughter and I to shop here" and was unable to give me an answer but a shrug. Really? His only explanation was what if the cart falls in there. There are carts all over the store if that was the case carts wouldn't be allowed in the store at all. read more
