We met with a good friend who lives nearby. This was my first visit, but my companions have been here several times.
It was a beautiful, warm evening and it was great to be able to sit outside in the area in front of the restaurant.
The service is quick and the waiter was friendly. When asked about any specials not on the printed menu, he made recommendations about what was available.
They offer lunch menus and daily specials.
Although the menu is not large, there is an excellent selection of appetisers, soups and salads.
The entrees offer a good selection of meat and fish dishes, as well as something for vegetarians.
We noticed that they had some very good wines on offer, but we all opted for beer.
My companions opted for Reisfleisch, which came with a mixed green salad, which had, I was told, an excellent dressing. I chose a Wiener Schnitzel, from veal, which came with a very good potato salad.
My husband and I shared a Moor im Hemd (rumour has it that the name of this chocolate-nut pudding will be changed, since its name is very much politically incorrect!!). Whatever label you put on it, the dessert we shared has to be one of the best, if not the best, we have tasted.
All in all, an excellent place. I would certainly go back there any time.
Well, it has been a while, but I finally got back to this place on September 2nd, this time for lunch It was a miserable, dreich day, not conducive to alfresco dining.
The restaurant is bright and cheerful and I am pleased to say that the service is still efficient and friendly.
As it was lunchtime, and two out of the four of us had to work after our meal, and one had to drive, we all opted for non-alcoholic refreshment. I was almost tempted by a wine from Styria from Thaller's cellars. Next time ...
There were some great options on the menu.
Two of the diners chose Leberknödel soup -- piping hot, with a nice tender Knödel.
Then on to the main courses.
One opted for the Backhendl salad, one chose the Semmelknödel with a creamy mushroom sauce, and two opted for the Faschiertesbraten with mashed potatoes and a very nice wine sauce. The potatoes came with some lovely crunchy onions. One diner declared the Braten to be the best he'd ever tasted.
Dessert was a choice between Tiramisu or Greiss Flummery. As it turned out, they were out of Tiramisu. Two plates appeared, with the Flummery garnished with a fruit sauce and lots of whipped cream. It was declared excellent. Light and tasty.
Coffee followed.
Once again, an excellent dining experience.
And even though we outstayed our welcome, we were not made aware of the fact.
