I came to the Shepherd School of Language to take the GRE and was scared out of my mind. I was…read morepicturing a testing center where victims lined up and proceeded into an auditorium like room and were watched intently by the glares of unfriendly monitors. Shepherd was nothing like that. I walked in and was greeted by a nice employee who instructed me to fill out some paperwork. I was then passed over with a metal detector and guided into a room that can probably only fit 15 people. According to posted instructions, drinks are not allowed, but the monitor let people who had water bottles take them in. Much appreciated. Only con: it was freezing in that room. I liked that Shepherd was a small and intimate testing center with a friendly monitor to boot. Take your GRE here people! Random fact: You have to sign a waiver thing in cursive! This school placed me in a Beginner level class, and I am an Advanced student. They said it's…read morebecause they don't have my class level available. This is a type of fraud they are committing with us and with the system for International Students who have an F1 visa. They just care about money and not the student's real level of English. This level fraud has also happened with lots of other students. i had four students in my class in the same situation. Thankfully I have now left and would not recommend anyone who is serious about studying English to go there. I have also reported this to authorities who said they are investigating.

There are opportunities for adults, kids, and preschoolers, during the day or in the evening, during the school year or the Holidays. I love going to the events and gather with Francophones, living in or visiting the area, interacting with students. Crêpes Day, Music festival, Beaujolais Nouveau, pétanque (French bocce ball), ... always an excuse for cheese, bread, and wine. It's fun and one can found out tips on where to find the best food in town! Members receive discounts for classes, French bakeries, and more. Once a month there is a free movie in French language with subtitles. The library has all kinds of books for all ages and levels. Note that the Académie is officially recognized as an examination center for the DAEFLE (diplôme d'aptitude à l'enseignement du français) and can prepare to other exams.
