Food I didn't get in da box

Yall mess up on me order and put fries on both sides when I was posed to hav mac and cheese with fries I paid 30$ I would like my money back frm da food I didn't get

Stuffed Catfish with yams and collards.

The food was amazing the staff was friendly. I had the stuff catfish with greens and yams. The only issue I have is one if you dine inside it is an automatic 15% gratuity. And if you use a debit or credit card it is an extra 3% gratuity. So watch out for that.

Under no circumstance will I ever return to Roses's Kitchen at 1509 Chamberlayne Avenue due to extremely poor/awful customer service and inflated charges. They were out of several items, crab, blueberry lemon glazed cornbread, and later to find out macaroni and cheese. It was 9pm when I went so I tried to be understanding. I really wanted the crab stuffed salmon but they were out of crab so after a little more time I settled on the honey old bay salmon entree which was supposed to come with two sides ($25). The waitress comes back 15min later to tell me they just ran out of macaroni and cheese, that my friend got the last scoop, the chef wasn't making another pan and chose another side. She was very accommodating and patient with my besties order and requests but irritated with me although I'd been calm and understanding. But who comes to a soul food restaurant and doesn't order macaroni and cheese? I was not passive this time and let her know I was not interested in any of the other sides, that I barely wanted the broccoli and cheese I ordered as my second side. The waitress was agitated with me and walked away. She comes back 15minutes later with a partial entree and one side with it, broccoli with "white" cheese on it I asked the waitress to please make sure to remove the sweet tea I ordered they never gave me, yes no drink was ever given to me but they did give my friend a GreatValue bottle of water with a cup. The waitress was surprised they (her) never brought me my drink. She later brings a $34.06 bill for a $25 meal. I let the waitress know I was charged extra for a side when the meal came with two sides. No adjustment was made for the first side (the macaroni and cheese they ran out of) and they charged me a gratuity (dining room fee). My friend's bill was less than $30, and she actually had three sides (a replacement side because she didn't like the macaroni and cheese half of which she ate) with her $23 meal. I didn't even eat that broccoli concoction they gave me. It made no sense I got charged an extra $10, the waitress said the cheese was an upcharge because it was a handheld I showed her the menu where the entree came with two sides, its not a handheld and listed as a side with no indication of upcharge. She takes the receipt and pretends to go check with her manager who had coincidently just walked out so she couldn't do anything. I let her know this was an awful dining experience and I wouldn't be back. She didn't care nor apologized. $34 for salmon, broccoli and no drink.

Finally got a chance to try this spot, and I was a little disappointed. The staff was nice and greeted me as soon as I walked in. It was a little dark inside, but I didn't dine in. I ordered the stuffed catfish which is stuffed with a spinach, cheese, and shrimp mixture. It's very overwhelming. The stuffing reminded me the spinach and cheese dip you get from the cold section at the grocery store. It was a lot of it! Very thick, it almost took over the fish. The breading on the fish had a good flavor. For sides I had yams and mac & cheese. The yams were good. A little watery for my liking, but they tasted good. The mac & cheese was bland and on the dry side. It was cheesy, but dry. My son got the A1 steak and cheese. He liked it, but recommends ordering without the sauce. Even though my experience wasn't great this time, I would go back to try some other menu items, because I've seen good reviews of this place.

The decor and the ambiance are invigorating & soul soothing concurrently. On both occasions I ate in the upstairs dining area & I really enjoyed being able to look out their windows & observe the hustle & bustles of Broad Street while dining. The music that played in the background while we dined was the perfect aural companion to a down home Southern cuisine centered meal. As you know, I love when the music in the restaurant compliments the cuisine & Lillie Pearl's playlist is top notch. During our dining time, we ordered their Smoked Wings as our appetizer. The wings were perfectly seasoned & visually appealing. However, I found them to be a bit dry & overcooked for my taste. My dining companion, however, had no problem with the wings texture. She enjoyed them very much. For my main meal, I ordered their Wild Game Burger[a mixture of Waygu Beef, Bison & Wild Boar] with a side order of Fries. The burger was cooked perfectly. It was well seasoned & juicy. The fries were delicious. They were crispy and also perfectly seasoned. I could have eaten a whole plate of just the fries alone. I ordered a cocktail to complement my meal, the Sweetest Thing. It was bright, crisp & a perfect drink for my food. As for Customer Service, Our server was courteous & attentive & knowledgeable about any menu changes we needed to be aware of. Also of note for me was that I had a reservation I needed to change to an earlier time slot & the staff was able to accommodate my request expediently. I also appreciated the fact that they informed me in advance that they were still on the Lunch menu & not dinner as my initial reservations had requested. I find that type of honesty & transparency refreshing & is definitely one of the reasons I will ALWAYS be a loyal Lillie Pearl customer.

The service was attentive, friendly, and really helpful with ordering. The atmosphere was warm and inviting perfect for a relaxed, good meal. We also shared the salmon bites and "Mouth of the South" shrimp both were delicious. The cornbread was soft and a great addition. And the sweet tea? So good I had three glasses before the food even came out! Overall, great food, great service, and a welcoming vibe. Definitely coming back.

Let's start with the positives -- the place is beautiful and clearly a well-chosen venue for a special occasion. Now, the food and service left a lot to be desired. My cousin's hamburger arrived completely plain -- no condiments whatsoever. She had to ask for mayo, ketchup, and other basics. There was also no salt and pepper on the table, so she requested it from a staff member who did not seem pleased and brought it over turned away from us with his hand covering the tops of the shakers -- not exactly a warm or sanitary impression. My husband and I both ordered the catfish. When his tartar sauce arrived (something he had to specifically request), he -- a former Navy cook -- was skeptical enough to ask if it was actually tartar sauce. That says a lot. My mac and cheese side was completely bland and flavorless. My husband also mentioned his lemonade tasted like straight syrup and had to dilute it with water. We also noticed in other reviews that cornbread is brought to the table -- we were never offered any. Sadly, about 12 hours later, both my husband and I are experiencing serious stomach issues. The restaurant is gorgeous and I wanted to love it, but between the bland food, the inattentive and at times unwelcoming service, and now feeling ill -- I don't think we'll be returning.

The lady at the front door was a bit staticky but she got us sat fairly quickly so we could deal with that. Vibes are all wooden, but not creaky. Could be a cool date spot, it was very casual so we were able to be a bit boisterous. Good place to chat and blend in. Service was great and friendly and attentive. The waitress we had always made sure our cups were full and we had napkins and what we needed. We didn't get any alcohol, I got an Arnold Palmer, the wife got a midtown. They were both pretty good, I don't know what the difference was but they slapped. Free refills on sweet tea was dope too! The food came out pretty fast for the portions and quality. The wings are a must get, get the large and if you don't finish air fry them back home (reheat is good) (I would get sauce on the side, we did buffalo). We got like a desert style cornbread with syrup and powdered sugar, not normally my jams but totally delicious (my coworker ordered, I am not into sweets; still 10/10). I had 2 buffalo shrimp and they were also good, I didn't get a flick but that's a safe pick. The mains are pricey (typical soul food prices) but fire!!! Portions were good but the quality of goods and meat are awesome. I eat at a lot of places, the quality was really high here so I think the price tag was fair. My wife got the catfish, I got the stuffed salmon. For our sides we got the greens, cabbage, and the Mac & cheese. I had a couple of things I personally like that I feel would have enhanced the meal but the overall outlook is that this is the place to go. The greens were salty as heck and didn't have like a turkey neck or smoked anything in it, could be a regional preference but that was missing for me. The cabbage was also cooked really well and didn't require much but had no sparkle. Great texture but the flavor wasn't there, I'm also Caribbean so maybe what I like is different, the crunch with a kick would have gone far and maybe some salt from the greens in there. The Mac and cheese was good, I like a creamier one but this will suffice tbh. Overall I'm going to give them a 8.9/10. I could have gotten the wrong things or went on an off day but they certainly delivered and the service was GREAT. I would deff revisit, it's got a lot of charm and personality. The staff were amicable and the bathrooms were clean. I would recommend this spot if you're visiting Richmond!

Our server, LENA was very helpful and friendly. She made sure we knew what was what. She was Awesome. Okay now this FOOD! So much food and everything hot and fresh. You'll be tempted to order an appetizer. I observed the portions and decided I couldn't eat all that... in a week. Definitely getting the fried oysters next time though. The "Fish Boat" comes with 2, 3 or 4 pieces of whiting. It's fried and the onion and pepper "sauce" is a mustardy, vinegar concoction that compliments the fish perfectly. You have your choice of two sides. Typical southern specialties. Collard greens (no pork added) were delicious, with a little kick; Candied Yams and a BRICK OF CORNBREAD. Light, soft sweet cornbread... my goodness. I don't think I can do this food the proper justice it deserves in this review. The chicken strips; the Alfredo were just as good. Even their version of an Arnold Palmer, (The Uptown) was done right. It's worth the drive and definitely worth the calories. If you love southern food, seafood with an ample serving of back in the day hospitality, (it's on the PLATE) stop by and come hungry. My family said it tasted like Thanksgiving. We also had the fried seafood platter which included a broiled crabcake, a few pieces of fried whiting and some jumbo shrimp Mac and cheese (not my favorite) and potato salad (sweet but different texture). The whiting was good but tough in texture. All food seems to be made to order. Be prepared to wait a little bit but not unreasonably long. It's amazing hat Richmond is so close to DC but yet so south that you immediately feel as if you're in the country. The restaurant is old looking and no frills whatsoever. You can tell that the family is keeping the dream alive. The AC was not pumping the best. It's also obvious that this is a staple in Richmond. The place was packed and when a place is packed with seasoned black folks....thats a great sign! I did have an issue. A 20% gratuity is added to all dine in orders. Our waiter brought out the initial receipt and I saw that fee so when he brought the receipt to sign, I did not offer an additional tip. Like I said, he was cool but not a great waiter at all. We literally ate or entire meal with one napkin each. I felt a type of way that he didn't mention that gratuity was already included. I felt like he was trying to get an additional 18-25%. That really rubbed me the wrong way. Even with this I still give this place four stars and recommend it.
