Rob and his team at Rosen Sound are the best group of guys in LA. Maybe even some of the best anywhere if I had to guess. Their level of knowledge, proficiency, and customer service is better than what anyone could ask for. I've been to many different synth technicians here in Los Angeles over the span of 7 years, but I'm happy to say the search for the most trustworthy and reliable tech has been over for me since going to Rosen Sound. They're very understandably busy for good reason. In regards to not getting your synth back repaired in say less than a week, that's naturally the cost of being damn good at what they do. Why else would they have a mountain of rare gear from laymen to high profile clients alike? Because they're careful with their repair process like craftsmen, and make sure that your gear is working better than when you first got it. Good things sometimes take time and it's more than worth it. Take your gear to Rosen Sound if you don't want a "rush job" and actually want your precious equipment fixed. Does not respond to email inquiries and website says don't call them. so thats just bad customer service. i send an email asking for repairs i get no confirmation, no "sorry we are too busy", nothing at all. also same owner as la gear works although they claim its completely seperate apparently they have the same policy of not even giving the courtesy of acknowledging your email inquires because they did it too. read more

Rob Rosen and staff at Rosen Sound are awesome. They refurbished my Minimoog and their work exceeded my expectations. It's better than when it was new! I noticed some of the one star comments about their policy regarding repair work phone calls. Their website is very upfront about their desire to maximize work time by sending any repair related communications through email. I understood this and had no problem with it. They were quick to respond to my messages, and answered all my questions about their process, turn around time, and estimates. I took my Prophet 600 to Rosen Sound because I'd bought it "as was" on Craigslist and it was certainly living up to its reputation as a moody vintage synth with need of serious TLC. Previously, I'd taken my Octave Cat SRM2 to Rob and he got that Cat purring and screaming at a very reasonable cost. When a business does right by me, I give them repeat business and will refer others to them. Rob does get swamped with work - that's what happens when you get a reputation for being the best - so, be patient and I can vouch for the job quality. I called with all intention of being a paying customer & I had a question that would have taken all of 30 seconds to answer and hopefully purchase the item, and from the moment I asked "how are you today" I was immediately met with a disrespectful tone. I'll be honest I'm not one to write reviews, I've never even sent a meal back at a restaurant in my life, but yelp asked me so here it is. Robert Rosen runs a quality shop. His upgrade to our Juno-106 was exactly what he said it would be. It has never sounded or felt better. Plus adding a proper IEC power port is critical for the longevity of the synth. I'd recommend the service to anyone. Next up was a Moog Voyager Pitch & Mod wheel fix. When it wasn't just right after the first go he took it back in and made it flawless. It has a new lease on life. Finally, my EMU-E4XT PSU. Old sampler, runs better than new now. He alsp got a better part than required, and charged less than the last shop I used. Class. His by-the-hour synth studio on-site is insane as well - rates are totally reasonable. His work is top-notch, and if you have synths or other audio electronics that need servicing, hit them up. read more

Patience is a must as this team is the most sought after, but the wait pales in comparison to their attention to detail and highly refined craftsmanship. As an industry veteran I hate to leave a negative review for a tech, but the experience was so unprofessional and bizarre it's prudent to warn others and provide some information should it happen to someone else. Rosen held my gear hostage for over 6 months without producing an estimate on time or cost. This is a breach of his own terms which are stated on his website. When I requested that he return my property, he refused unless a new "contract" was signed stating that if I leave any negative reviews of his business online he would sue me. This new "contract" also demanded I pay whatever cash price he named (still no estimate) and that all my warranties would be voided. After talking to a consumer affairs lawyer I learned that these actions are illegal and that Rosen could be sued for civil theft, extortion, damages, and breaking California Civil Code Sec. 1670.8 (no business can threaten your rights to review their services, it is a violation of the First Amendment). Violating this code is actually reportable to the Attorney General. I found another tech in town that provides estimates, performs repairs within weeks, and treats customers and their property with respect. Find another shop and avoid this place. read more

My Juno 106 needed new chorus chips. Rosen's website stated that they didn't have any openings for repairs for two more months out. I emailed them and Eli knew exactly what my Juno needed and that they had extra chorus chips in stock. Snuck me in immediately and my Juno was fixed within 2 days. Sounds amazing. Avoid these guys at all cost. Very shady business practice! I called Rob at Rosen Sound and told him about my Korg Polysix problem, his response was that Korgs are very hard to work on and have many problems. He wanted a $200 non refundable down payment with no guarantee that he can diagnose the problem, no guarantee that he can fix the problem and no time estimate on when he can even start the diagnose process. Folks this is NOT how you run a repair shop. Please don't fall for these kind of technicians! They will waste your time and only rip you off. If you have a vintage synth and it needs repair always call and talk to a few repair shops, read honest reviews and don't fall for people who talk a big game with zero guarantees. I don't like leaving bad reviews but in this case technicians like Rosen Sound give a bad name to other honest hard working knowledgable techs. There are many good vintage repair shops in LA that have a reasonable flat diagnostic fee and quick turn around time. read more

hese guys are the biggest hypocrites in the industry they keep saying "look are reverb prices they are out of control" then sell stuff for about the same price i dont care if its been serviced or not but selling minimoogs for $10K and saying "we hate synthflation" is an oxymoron they are overpriced and overhyped, $100 now raised up to $150 per hour is a joke for labor $100 is already a crime, also if you want to wait over a year plus to get your synth back from repair by all means do what you want, the owner is too busy making IG vids and ego tripping to focus on the overpriced work they need to do.....go support if you like to get ripped off go elswhere lots of other options and actually care about the customer and wont take advantage of their money and time read more

I took my Maxikorg Univox synthesizer to Rosen Sound this past March 2015. After 21 days (he never reached out to me, I had to visit his "studio" twice to get word from him) they almost fixed the noisy oscillator (for $374), but not completely; so I made the mistake of taking it back for further repair. Almost two months later (now into June), Rob somehow made the synthesizer worse, it now has a constant droning "D" note. He would not even give a partial refund after sabotaging the synth . He wrote long emails about his righteousness and played up the role of the patronizing "expert" speaking to the lowly "user". In lieu of using creative expletives, the bottom line is this: he does not own an analog synthesizer and should not be advertising as an expert in the field. I would look further, much further, if you have something rare and special. read more

Avoid at all costs! I brought a couple synths to Rosen Sound leaving a deposit (though this is not the norm) and in good faith that mods and repairs would be completed in a timely manner. At first he promised a good turn around time and dropped names of famous people who have had their synths worked on by him. I thought if they trusted him, then this will be great. I also saw a lot of good reviews on Yelp. Sad to say, not only was he incredibly uncommunicative about timing and ultimately what he did / didn't do on my equipment, it took over six months for the standard repairs to be made. It would have been a different story had he been honest, but the horrendous communication issues were enough to convince me to never take anything to him again. Other people might have lucked out but I did not and had a terrible experience. My synths were delivered in a butchered condition and I have had to take them to other more reputable repair persons. If you love your gear, stay away. There are other options for you! read more

Rosen is fantastic. Honest and knowledgeable! Highly recommend them. I live on the west side and still make the trek to Burbank because I trust them more than other techs I've used before. They've worked on my Juno 106, SH-101, Oberheim Matrix, and a monitor controller. I had my 106 restored years ago, but the chips kept having to be replaced. Now that Rosen fixed it I won't have that issue again PLUS my 106 can now be used as a Chorus effect. Super dope! read more

Where to start!? The beginning I suppose! I had 2 keyboards that I need repaired in a very timely manner. Naturally I called around to find out who can fix my keyboards, how long it would take and how much it would cost. Both keyboards are very different from each other. One is the latest and greatest, a Korg Kronos. The other was a Yamaha KX-88 (its basically 88 key version of the Yamaha DX7), a very old keyboard. All the places I called around said they would not work on my Yamaha. Saying its to old of a keyboard and parts for it would be hard to get as they stopped making them a long time ago. The Problems the Yamaha had were that MIDI connecters were not working and the Pitch Bend Wheel was not working. Problems that I thought would be fairly simple to fix and not require any part changing. Seems like a lot of these tech repair stores just replace parts instead of doing any actual fixing. With the Kronos, its hard to explain it in text, but the problem basically was the keyboard was going haywire. It was randomly going through the sounds at very high speeds, non-stop. Every single place I called would tell me the same thing. That I would probably have to replace 1 or 2 parts and that it was going to cost big, upwards of $1000 and that it could take around 3 weeks or more to get done. Then I found Rosen Sound I was told to bring it for a look. I brought it in and the guy told me that he could fix it WITHOUT needing to replace any parts and could have it done for me in a few days. I of course then asked if he could fix my Yamaha. He took a look at it and said he could also fix without any replacement parts and that it would be ready with the Kronos. So I left my gear with him to work on. 5 days later I get a call from the store telling me both my keyboards are ready for me. I went down to the store and he had them on and waiting for me to try out to make sure everything was in order. Which I thought was a really cool gesture on his part! I tried them both out and all the problems were fixed. And I payed only a fraction compared to what I would have payed at any of the other stores I called. Not to mention I would have had to wait 3 weeks plus. By far the best tech repair experience I have had to date. Nothing else comes even close. I have a bunch of other keyboards I plan to take down there soon that I was told he can work on. Keyboards like the Roland Jupiter 8, Roland Juno 106, a Prophet 5 and my Oberheim OB-8 that hasn't worked in years. A bunch of vintage keyboards that it seems no one wants to touch. Other then the repair process, cost and time all being excellent. The guy that worked on my gear was really nice. Talking to him you get the sense that he knows what he is talking about, something which I can't say the same about many others that I have dealt with. Took my Yamaha CP-20 to Rosen Sound because it wasn't making any sound at all. This is my first analog synthesizer, and I got it in this condition, so I called up several places around town to see if I could get it fixed, and Rob knew the model right away and said that he had repaired one just like it before.This confidence made me feel like he was the right guy for the job, and he definitely sounded genuine on the phone. He gave me a solid quote on the price to fix it and had it back to me in less than 2 weeks, only adding a little bit onto the bill for cost of parts. All in all it was $180 for the repair and I was definitely pleased with the results, it sounds great and works perfectly. I was super excited about the piano and I must have called him 5-6 times over the course of the repair just to get info and stuff, but he was definitely cool with it and enjoyed my enthusiasm. He even posted a little clip of it on his instagram before I picked it up, which was great. Hes got a pretty small set up so he certainly is backed up. Don't expect him to pull any miracles as far as time goes, hes not Jesus so its not like he can resurrect your synth in three days (haha get it, an easter joke!). He could tell I wasn't trying to rush him, but just genuinely excited about the piano, and that probably what made him finish the job so quick. I should add that he also helped me wire up a little mod on my fender practice amp so i could run a talkbox through it. Didn't even charge me a thing, even though he used some spare parts he had lying around. All in all, Rosen sound is a great place to get your vintage synth or other musical electrical devices worked on. I brought my Juno in for repair and these guys did a great job with it! It was upgraded and I couldn't be any happier with it. Only reason this isn't 5stars is, in my opinion, communication should have been better. No need to get into specifics because they do great work. I'd say to the business to follow thru with all of the things that you say rather than just the portions that benefit you. read more

I got fed up and finally decided to pull the trigger and swap all 6 of my Juno 106 voice chips with the new Analog Renaissance AR80017A VCF VCA chips so not to have to deal with the issue EVER again! I know how simple the swap is and called around town and got some quotes and when it could be done. Rob gave me a better deal than anyone else and could get it back before anyone else so no brainer. I brought the keyboard to the shop where I met Michael, the synth genius who works alongside Rob. He explained to me everything that they were going to do, how he was going to enhance things and I left feeling like it was in good hands. I've gotten the synth back in the studio since and all is running smoothly and I'm feeling like this 106 is going to last forever now. Thanks fellas! read more

Repairs Roland Jupiter-8s - that says a lot. Rob fixed my Roland Juno-106. He put new capacitors in, and rigged it so I can pass external synths through my Juno-106's chorus effects - cool. He changed my memory battery while he had the synth opened up, and fixed my voice chip problem. Since then, I have been able to use my Juno-106 for special effects and awesome punchy bass synth tracks. read more

I brought my synth in here early 2015, really hopefully about price and turn around time, got it back March of 2016...Now less than a year later its acting up from the exact same problem I originally brought it in for. I was originally told it would take 4-6 weeks, I understand parts take a long time when they are back ordered, etc..but a year? To top it off I paid for it three months before he made time to get it to me. THREE MONTHS. After many e-mails and back and forths I finally received it, less that a year later and I have to get it repaired for the same problem... Very unprofessional transaction. I was in need of Midi help, transferring SysEx files/sound patch collections onto my 1980s Korg DW-8000 keyboard. I had no luck emailing random self-proclaimed electronic/Midi gods on Craigslist Services listings -no one knows how to do this stuff! I was also pretty desperate because I needed a vintage organ sound within a few days and I wasn't achieving the desired with my own amateur parameter editing.
