My F Clef signature setup
Geoffrey S.

I have had the absolute pleasure to know, and have worked with Norik since 1987! He's my luither! I met him through Warmoth Guitars in Washington State. You'll not ever meet the kindest, amazing, magical, creative, individual like him anywhere else! He's a Mensch! Worth his weight in Salt! A true luthier!! If Norik can't do it, IT CANNOT BE DONE! I have experienced his amazing creative talents for more then half of my life! I have an array of items his Midas hands touched, some of which can't be duplicated and some he should just get some pattens on! You'll fall in LOVE with his action setup... you'll become a fan, like me! I've happily been his billboard ever since! Brilliant! Fantastic!! Seriously you'll not find better!

Customer service is completely random. Noric does a good job, but getting your instrument back is like buying a lottery ticket.

I took my 6120 Gretsch to Norik for refreting: frets were horrible and had sharp ends. Renson Guitar shop does FANTASTIC job!

Please read before ordering or buying a Woodcraft instrument…read more Gary is very friendly and responsive at the beginning of the process, but once payment was made, communication became inconsistent and often dismissive. I was initially told the build would take 3-4 months. It ultimately took over 9 months. After waiting four months with no real updates on the bass I had already paid for, Gary attempted to sell me a completely different instrument instead. When I asked about the status of my original order, I was told it would be "just a few more weeks." That turned into an additional 4 and a half months. I later learned that these basses are not built in the U.S. as implied. They are built in Ukraine, shipped in pieces, and assembled in North Hollywood. This was never clearly disclosed upfront, and I only discovered it after significant delays. When the bass finally arrived, it had the wrong neck and the wrong pickguard. The pickguard and neck was removed from another bass in the shop to correct this. On top of that, the instrument was not properly set up: there was noticeable string buzzing, the nut was cut too high, and the brass saddles were already oxidizing. After nearly a year of waiting, the lack of quality control and transparency was extremely disappointing. Customers should not feel like an inconvenience for asking reasonable questions after months of delays. If you're considering ordering here, be prepared for missed timelines, poor follow-through, and unclear communication. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this shop.

Some guitar stores sell instruments. Some actually take care of musicians…read more I bought a new guitar from LA Vintage Gear and the experience meant more than just walking out with an instrument. They held it for me, answered every question without ego, let me sit with it for over an hour, and even gave me a discount out of their own pocket because they knew I'm a working musician. They didn't have to do that. A month in, the guitar is unreal. I've spent time with late-30s and early-40s instruments, and what makes those special isn't just age -- it's the response, the dryness, the headroom, the way the notes stay clear when you lean into them. This guitar has that feeling. It's alive. It pushes back. It tells the truth when you play it. What really stands out is the value -- getting something that lives in that golden-era territory without paying absurd vintage prices or dealing with an 80-year-old instrument you're afraid to breathe on. There's a lot of hype around certain big-name shops in LA, especially when it comes to rare vintage pieces. But hype and integrity aren't the same thing. I've walked into places where prices are inflated and the attitude makes you feel like you have to prove yourself. This wasn't that. No condescension. No gatekeeping. Just people who care about tone and about the musicians walking through the door. Good instruments matter. But how you're treated matters just as much. Thank you LA Vintage Gear!

After reading some forums online and watching various YouTube videos to see what modulars were all…read moreabout, Big City Music was considered one of the best in the nation. I stopped by on the way home to explore modular synths for the first time, hoping I'd get that "feeling" like this is a perfect fit for me. Thanks to seeing Big City Music here on Yelp, I drove to their address but had trouble finding the building because there were no signs anywhere. From Ventura, it looked like there was an abandoned building at the address listed. So, I called and talked to Roger. He was great to talk to and said they usually ask customers to make an appointment to stop by. Lucky for me they were available at that time and I could stop in. He gave me better directions, since the entrance was actually off Ventura Blvd. Big City Music is unlike any other music store I've been to. It feels like I'm entering a "secret club" where you go enter through back door and walk into a room-sized warehouse full of boxes and supplies everywhere. Roger was glad to see me and introduced himself right away. He then pointed me to the demo room, where there are several large modular synths, some (very nice) keyboards, guitar pedals, vintage gear and a couple people (Stephi and Morgan) ready to help out. I mentioned I was new to modular synths and wanted to mess around a bit to get a feel for what they can do. Stephi cleared off a module and handed me some patch cables to mess around as much as I wanted. I never felt rushed the entire time I was there. At first, I was clueless. Just clueless. I started having doubts immediately. What the F was I doing here? Rather than allowing them to hear my embarrassingly-awful sounds I'd be making, I popped on some headphones and patched on the fly. After a half-hour, I felt comfortable enough to ask Morgan a few questions about the basics. He jumped right in on their massive modular and started patching like a mad scientist, showing me what all the modules can do. I was very impressed with his knowledge and passion. I instantly felt at ease, even though I had very little knowledge of what was going on. The way he explained things were super helpful. Since my first visit, I decided to take the dive into modular and have returned. I bought a Monorocket case, some patch cables and a few modules to get me started. I'll definitely be coming back here to fill up my case over the coming months and ask for a couple more tutorials. I'm very lucky to live so close to this great store and to learn from awesome people. Cheers--
