This little store is so great. It has a really nice vibe inside, it's exactly the type of shop I would want to support. I hope in the future I can buy a guitar from here! I got my 15 year old acoustic guitar fixed up so I can play it again after a long break from playing. Their staff is very knowledgeable and helpful if you have questions. If you're looking for vintage gear (which I honestly know nothing about) I imagine they'd be a great place to find what you're looking for based on the sheer amount of stuff they have packed inside. Parking on the street is easy but I guess they also have parking in the back. IMO the repair was worth what they charged and I would trust them with any guitars in the future. read more

It was an unusual wiring job due to a push/pull tone knob and the guitar tech went above and beyond, reaching out to Nik himself for a detailed wiring schematic to make sure that the job was done to perfection. The owner Clif was dismissive and unhelpful when I messaged to ask which store one of the guitars was at so I could buy it. I didn't remember seeing it at the location listed on the Reverb site when I was there, so I messaged to ask. This really annoyed him apparently and he told me to go back and read the post. When I called him on his rudeness, he took the time to look up my music and write me back to tell me he would rate it "C-" and that I would "never make it". I was about to buy a $3200 guitar! There is no reason to shop at this store and there are dozens of other places to check out guitars. Too bad because the other staff seemed great and the guitars are quite nice. read more

I wanted to buy a PRS today there so I tried to get their Dualist board set up and play through it. Once I nailed a tone I was sold on the PRS (and since the guy in store went out of his way to make sure I was aware he needed to leave to get lunch) I was planning on going to the bank to take out money to buy the PRS and also let the guy get his lunch. So I said how about this, I'll let you eat lunch and I'll come back after to play it the PRS a little more. Luckily he saved me trouble by saying "You've played for a long time already" (15 mins-all of which trying to get a tone) and "We don't really let people test gear here." Now I know not to walk into this spot with their fake SRV new "distressed" overpriced guitars hanging about. Do yourself a favor and bypass this spot, because unless you are Jimmy Page or Slash, you are probably unwelcome to try their axes or amps. read more

Can't say enough about the care these guys have taken of me during my visits here, in Burbank and more recently at their new Studio City location. Bought a Cutthroat Audio, Down Brownie about a year ago and been back many times lately for the massive and incredible collection of tubes they received. Thoughtfully sorted, tested, and rated, I was able to find the best tubes I've ever used and got my amps sounding better than I knew they could. LA Vintage Gear is my favorite guitar place in Los Angeles hands down. Not only do they carry gear that nobody else in the area carries, but they are beyond accommodating and genuinely helpful. The first time I came into the shop was on a vintage gear crawl through LA. The vibe in this place is unlike any of the others. The shop itself is just so inviting and beautiful. I actually came to check it out specifically to try out Two Rock Amps. For whatever reason, I was drawn to the Benson Monarch Reverb. I'd never heard of them or seen them before but it just intrigued me. The guys in the shop plugged me in and handed me a nice Danocaster and just let me enjoy. I wound up bouncing back and forth between the Benson, Two Rock Studio Pro 35 (I think) and a bigger Two Rock just for fun. But that Monarch Reverb captivated me. Fast Forward to March as Covid took grips and I reached out to Clif and team about the Benson Amps. I told Clif what I was interested in and what my playing environment would be and he helped me settle my mind on the Monarch over the Vincent. Then he got it to me the very next day. Talk about service! I also reached out with random questions and he always responded. Then even more recently, I was on the quest for a special Martin Dreadnought. I checked a bunch of shops and on a whim, I checked LA Vintage Gear as well. I remembered seeing acoustics, just didn't pay them much attention when I went in previously. Turns out, they had a great used Martin Custom Shop D41 on the wall. I checked it out on a Saturday but didn't have money with me to close the deal. Messaged Clif the next day and he made special arrangements for me to go pick it up when they are usually closed. These guys are really amazing, carry amazing gear, stand by that gear b110 percent, and will go out of their way to make sure you are happy. It's not the biggest guitar shop in LA, but it's the most comfortable and definitely the coolest. read more

So I bought a Two Rock Amp from Clif. Nobody else in the country could get me what I wanted for at least 5-6 months. These guys deliver in a week. There was an issue with the speaker can I wanted, so to make sure I was happy they sent me a complimentary cab to hold me over until mine came in. Pretty stand up I'd say.
