I'm a pretty average guitar player. 13 years ago, I treated myself to a Martin HD28 guitar. I was hoping it would make me a better player, but in reality it just allowed me to be just as average, but sounding much better. It's a great sounding guitar. I played the factory settings for all these years and thought everything was great. Then, I took it to Eric's for a setup. WOW. Eric's Guitars is the best. New nut. It's beautiful. It's shiny. It works! Found some "4 6 nylon" on ebay. This is supposedly the nut material used on the original bursts. No longer approved for production in the United States. I don't know if it's real but Eric's made it happen despite it being a pain in the ass to cut. read more

I went here based on the Yelp reviews and I'm glad I did. Eric is very reasonable, easy going, and honest. A friend of mine had to travel out of state permanently and couldn't take the guitar so she gave it to me. It's an old Ibanez AEG50 acoustic electric guitar. I could tell that I couldn't tune it properly because the strings were old and one of them was bent. So I went to Guitar Center thinking I can get them replaced and tuned. But when I got there, I didn't have a good experience due to their repairman declining to work on it and trying to persuade me into buying a new guitar. I left and searched through Yelp. Eric's shop was literally less than 6 miles away from me. He quoted me his final price and estimated pick up. When I got there, I was astonished as to how much work he put into it. My guitar practically looked new. He even recommended a music academy where I can learn to play the guitar right here in the valley. I'm glad I went with him instead of paying unnecessarily for a new guitar. I'm a customer for life! read more

My experience with Eric's could not have been better! I brought my guitar in for a set up after a not so good interaction with guitar center. He said it would take a week, which I totally understood, but Eric asked if it was my only guitar; which it was. He mentioned that I give a call after 3 days and they might be able to have it ready ahead of time. Well, not only did he have it done ahead of time; but it sounds better than ever!! went in to this shop in a pinch before a show I'm a guitar tech for a very well known act. I didn't mention this to Eric and maybe I should have because the work was hands down the worst I've ever seen. it looks like he either has no idea what he's doing, doesn't care about the work or the customer, he hired a 6 year old to file the nut or what I think is he lets the guy he just hired and is trying to learn practice on your instrument. I would give Eric's 1000 stars if I could. I've lived in Chicago, New York City, San Francisco and have had several great luthiers there, but Eric and Billy smoke them all. I've taken 7 of my guitars here to Eric's for repair now. Several of them for heavy mods including 3rd humbucker routed and installed, maestro tremolos added and unorthodox custom wiring configurations. As well as a vintage Les Paul w/ serious fretboard cracks and an acoustic with major humidity body cracks. The mods and repairs completely exceeded my expectations, they were absolutely Perfect. Their set ups are fantastic. Everything they specify on their website is absolutely true - your guitar deserves it. Eric and Billy are the best. Total professionals and very likable. Every visit is a learning experience for me. I drive up 90 minutes from Long Beach just to have them specifically work on my guitars. And I will continue to do so. A very trusted musician friend referred me to Eric's this fall for proper setup on a my new guitar. I called and was invited to stop by as soon as I could, went in and described what I knew to be out of alignment (truss rod, nut, bridge saddles) and what strings I wanted to play with this guitar and they walked me through what a proper setup would entail and how long they expected to need the guitar to be with them. Eric and Mike are both very courteous and professional, but also very easy to deal with and clearly love what they get to do every day. My guitar was finished earlier than promised, was setup perfectly and I was given as much time as I needed to play through an amp in another room to be sure I was pleased with the work before I left with the guitar. I've been coming to Eric for almost 20 years now to take care of all my guitars. I live about an hour away, so it's not the most convenient, but I keep coming back because I trust him completely with my guitars. He always explains what needs to be done, what your options are, and his rates seem pretty reasonable to me. Since I come so far, he makes every effort to get anything simple done that day so I don't have to return in a few days. In the amp room where you check your guitar out the wall is filled with better and more famous musicians than I who trust Eric and his team to take care of their stuff.
