Looks like a shiny new pumpkin!

This was my second trip to this shop. After my last repair, I asked about the Yelp coupon for a car wax. They quickly agreed to the deal and scheduled a date. The picture speaks for their work. The paint looks like new! However, the best part of the deal is working with the super-friendly staff. The drop off and pickup is always conversational, never just a business transaction. I love talking with Dana while she completes my paperwork. She is knowledgeable about cars and current events. Ed had my car outside and ready in 5 minutes, and I wound up talking to Dana for 10. Then Ed joined in with a few good stories and some great insider info from his years of experience. Auto repair of any kind is rarely pleasant. I appreciate how this shop treats me like a person and a neighbor.

Recently, the team at Truetech has done some work on my 2010 Ford Rscape and I couldn't be happier with the outcome that they've done. The work was completed in a timely fashion, the prices are reasonable for all things considered for the work that was completed. We will definitely be going back to Truetech for our Automotive needs. I normally go to other places when I don't have the tools, time, and or knowledge needed for some things. I will go over my first experience with this shop and why my wife and I go here when needed. I had an issue with an oil pressure sensor leak. I could see it, I know how much the part costs, and I know what needs to be done. However to actually access it would be a pain. I called them up and asked them how much it would cost to replace it. I believe I spoke to Steve and he mentioned generally about 200 or so. Now, that would be the case for many cars, but not this one. So I asked Steve if he could check book time. Book time is basically the amount of time, in a perfect scenario, it should take a mechanic to complete a task. They can then give you an estimate with respect to their labor rates. For example if hourly labor is 150 and book time for say changing a starter is 1h, they can say the labor cost will be $150. Steve looks at book time and is surprised because it's higher than normal about 2x more time and was wondering why. I mentioned, that to access it you have to essentially remove a few other components. He mentions, well, you can bring it in and we can take a look. I was hoping maybe they'd have easier ways of accessing it and mentioned I'm going to think on it a bit. I went under the car again and decided, "Nope. Too much work." I called back and setup an appointment. I drop off the car. I'm not happy with where the car manufacturers' engineers decided to shroud the oil pressure switch and essentially up the replacement cost but it is what it is. Anyway, I get a call back and the price I have to pay is essentially 1h and the part. I head on over and am very surprised. I forget the name of the mechanic (think it started with an M) but I asked them, "I'm surprised that you got it done so fast ... how?!" They mentioned they'd dealt with those cars before as they're common so they rigged up/made a special tool to reach in and do it. That was when I decided TrueTech is a stand up place. They could have charged book time and believe me you, I would've paid it. However they had a seasoned mechanic who knocked it out and passed those savings in their time, as savings in my pocket back to me. This isn't just a good honest mechanic being a good honest mechanic but also the higher ups, the managers and or owners. It seems that is their standard too as they've always been pretty booked which says they're more about doing good work in good time and if they make good headway, you may luck out. You may not, their call :-) but again, book time is perfect world setup, not rusted through, seized on, broken off ... stuff. It is still a good way to understand what you may be looking at aside from the actual part. Since then if and when needed, we go to TrueTech and we've always been happy. P.S. Once they have you in their system (i.e. e-mail / phone), their estimates app, progress, etc and everything is great. Especially if you have a smart phone. I saw where someone mentioned they had difficulty with getting a response and I haven't ran into that. If anyone does run into that, call them and just verify they have the right info.

I love my regular guy back in Philly and he had let me know last time I went in I needed to get the brakes replaced soon, when I asked for a quote he said it would be about $200. I'll be driving back to Philly and need to get that taken care of before that long drive. Before I even brought my car in to Hillerichs I explained what work I needed done and asked for a quote which they would not provide for me. Red flag number one. I scheduled a time to bring my car in for the brake replacement and oil change. A few hours later they called me with a laundry list of other "issues" I should get fixed, none of which my regular mechanic had brought up. Red flag number two. They then told me that it was going to cost $450 to replace just my front brake pads plus an extra $200 to clean some rust off the back brake pads (the were elusive and not helpful in teaching me when I asked for an explanation of the danger of this rust). A simple search on groupon reveals that there are a myriad of other mechanics within a 30 mile radius that will replace front brakes for around $200. Red flag number three. I literally laughed and told them no way. I asked how much the oil change would be ($40) and then they asked ME what oil my car uses. Maybe I should be a more informed car owner but surely the mechanic should know what kind of oil to use. After all this it took them a full day to perform the oil change. When I did go to pick up my car I was hit with a $40 "inspection fee". On the very bill they handed with me, they wrote "customer says brake pads are worn down and also needs oil change." In the "inspection notes" they wrote (not exact quote) "brake pads are worn down, rear brake oads are rusted, oil change needs to be done." So they charged me $40 for me to tell them what was wrong with my car. Huge waste, will not be returning.

Matt Kepes is the knowledgeable and affable manager of this shop. David Young is a knowledgeable and friendly ASE Certified Technician here also and upon chatting, I could tell he really has a passion for cars. As a helpful Dad's errand, I brought my son's car in here for a brake job while he was out of town on a trip. This particular shop is also part of Costco's network of auto service providers (besides selling and installing tires which Costco does at its own Tire Centers) and that is what directed me here. That and knowing they would be more economical than having a dealer do the brake work. They do good and reliable and guaranteed work and while they are not "cheap", but rather reasonable, you do get a 15% discount based on being a Costco member. You need an authorization number from Costco via their website to get that discount. They do a lot of the usual auto shop services but most of their Costco referral business is admittedly for wheel alignments (which I also had done) which Costco Tire Centers don't do, but often recommends after their tire work. I really liked the professionalism and friendliness I experienced here. Nice written reports with photos are also provided on all of the work btw. Big thumbs up and thank you Matt and Dave! ps - There is a 3% credit card fee and the auto repair bills are not insignificant. There is no fee for a debit card, so bring and use that if it makes a big enough difference for you.
