My first time here. Honestly I was skeptical just looking at the reviews. I really shouldn't have come to assumptions. Yesterday I hit a curb and as a result of the impact, it went flat. Not only that but the wheel alignment was thrown off too. I dreaded at first because I knew today was Sunday and it was a holiday too. Double whammy. I did frantically search for auto shops in hopes that some places were still open. Thus I stumbled upon here. One of the technicians, Jose (who literally got hired yesterday might I add.) stated that although the specific tire wasn't in stock at the moment, he would reach out to the Skokie location as they did have the tire in stock. Cut to 4 1/2 hours later, (Honestly I didn't mind the wait as I really didn't have solid plans today) Jose tells me that the Skokie location was closed and the tire would be in tomorrow. As I was filled with despair, Jose told me that he would check to see If by chance I had a spare in the trunk. And... there was. Relief poured into me as well as embarrassment at the fact that I didn't check for a spare firstly. A lot of time could've been saved if I had. Oops lol. With all that taken of, Jose told me again that the tire would be in tomorrow and that I can come and have it changed at the no cost for the inconvenience. All in all, I was surprised and very content with the service (albeit at the cost of my negligence lol) Especially with Jose. That man is something else. High praise to him. TL:DR, Don't jump to conclusions. Take the risks if necessary. I did and it paid off. read more

I was visiting relatives in the Chicago area when my check engine light came on in my Kia Niro on a Saturday night. The Kia dealer was of course not open but I wanted some type of diagnostic done to determine whether or not the vehicle was safe to drive home several hundred miles. Pep Boys indicated they were open on Sunday and had an online appointment scheduling system. The system indicated that a 9:30 AM appointment slot was available for the following morning, therefore I scheduled the Niro into the slot. I arrived to Pep Boys this morning about 10 minutes early and upon checking in for my appointment that I scheduled the previous night, I was informed that a mechanic was not on duty and a diagnostic could not be done until Monday. The woman that waited on me indicated that she had earlier that morning read the information I had shared when I made the appointment online and knew then that my car would not be able to be diagnosed due to no mechanic on duty, however, I was never notified of the challenge. So instead I drove 30 miles out of my way thinking it would be worth the time as I would then have the information I would need to make a decision about driving home. Clearly that did not happen. I totally understand that a mechanic was not on duty and a mechanic was needed to perform the diagnostics, but I am far less understanding that I was not notified in some way that the service I was requesting could not be provided, saving me from driving out of my way and wasting my time. In the future I will take my business elsewhere. read more

This place is the WORST. I arrived early for an oil change appointment on a Sunday afternoon. One counter person and two techs "working". One car in a bay. They then tell me it's going to be 90 minutes for an oil change. I thought "Wow, that's long, but I can work on my computer". I sit down and watch one tech walk out to his car and sleep. The other tech finishes a tire change in ten minutes and leaves for lunch! The next hour and 15 minutes goes by and no one is working on any cars at all! At one point, the counter person leaves to walk across the street so I AM THE ONLY PERSON IN THEIR STORE. Unbelievable!!! At that point, I said we must have different definitions of the word "appointment" and asked for my keys back. I went down the street to another oil change place and was home in 45 minutes. Those guys at Pep Boys were literally stealing the company's money. Do you think they would care about the job they did on your car? Never never never go here. read more

I'm sad to let everyone know. Noah the previous manager of this location that brought it back to life is no longer here. Therefore this place is back in the gutter. After calling yesterday to verify times for an appointment based off of the ones online (there has been issues before) I was told the only openings were at 11 although the website said 8-11 were open. I arrived at 1045 as my selected time was 11. I approaced the counter and let Isiah know my information. To be greeted with. "You have to let give us time there is only two techs" I asked if there was a time. He said no my only option was to leave my car and when they can get to it they can let me know. I requested to be called and I could come back as I love only blocks away. It was refused. Very rudely. Then Isaiah just went back to typing on his computer. I had to ask if he could let me know again. He just restated. I could leave my car and they will get to it when they can. Weird this is customer service. I understand being short handed. But maybe educate your staff how to approach the situation with customers. A better understanding can go a long way. Way farther than a coupon ever could. read more

They were able to see me on short notice and fixed my tire quickly and for a reasonable price. Both Angel and David who were on duty that day were very professional. IM PISSED. I drive FORTY MINUTES from my house to get an oil change here because of the price that was being offered to me via Uber since I drive for them. I made an appointment for 9 am bright and early Thursday morning when they are not busy. When I get there 'raoul' tells me I need to drop it off for at least an hour and a half. I said I made an appointment and he told me 'that's not how appointments work' ...I need raoul to put down the monkey wrench and pick up a dictionary... He said they have two other cars to work on and he is there to help the guy out that is working on them. First of all...despite raoul's ability to understand how appointments work, WHY DONT YOU DO MY OIL CHANGE. DID YOU NOT JUST SAY THAT YOU ARE HERE TO HELP? The dumbest people I have encountered in a long time. I don't have time to wait two hours for you to do a five minute oil change. I work two jobs and go to school. And the closest time you can get me back in is SUNDAY? You guys are LAZY and STUPID. read more

The customer service received from this business was less than sub-par. I was given times of when the vehicle would be done 3 different times, PAST it's original finish time. Ultimately causing the extra expense of overnight accommodations, meals, and frustration. I was told it would be ready that same day by close, and back on my way. I called 15 minutes before close to check on the status of the job. No answer. Waited 10 minutes, called again, no answer. I was not contacted in any way to be told that this shop was keeping the vehicle overnight. I wasn't contacted in the morning either. It took over a dozen calls, and reaching out to corporate before anything was resolved concerning the rude treatment. Ultimately the vehicle was fixed, and we were able to continue on our journey back to South Dakota. I won't be recommending this location. read more

Called on the phone for a quote on a car battery. Talked to Dennis and he was very friendly and helpful. When it comes to car maintenance I'm a deer in headlights. I came in so he could check out my car and here I am sitting in the waiting room to get a new battery. Even though this was not the lowest price for a battery I don't care. I care about how I'm spoken to as well as the time and kindness given to me at a place of service. Dennis sold me with his genuinenesswas definitely the reason for my patronage here. STILL NO COVID protocols in place. NOONE and I mean NOONE was wearing a mask, the plastic partition is gone up front as well. And to make matters worse, the sign out front is old as it states no masks required if vaccinated. Clearly they need to get with it as there still is a mask mandate in Cook County regardless of vaccine status. Further, the last service I had there really messed up my car bad, so I had to go somewhere else to fix their screwup, which cost me over $400! Things were done to my car that I never authorized, and when I questioned it, I was told "I don't know". The mechanic I went to to fix YOUR screwup told me I didn't need ANY of the services you recommended. Its sad that in 2022, when a woman walks into your place of business to be treated like I have no clue what my car is about. Sorry guys - I know a LOT about my car, so you didn't get any business from me on those other services you said I needed. The ONE crucial item was a leak by my gas tank which the other mechanic caught and you never did. Thanks for putting me in harms way by not telling me about a GAS LEAK! Ugh! Finally, when I picked up my car, NOONE was there! Several of us waited around for a while until a very nice gentleman in back called his boss, who decided he was leaving and left me and several other people waiting for well over a half our. So, if its ok to leave your store completely unattended, not adhere to the current COVID protocols in Illinois, AND mess up my car, sorry folks, you lost a customer. So I made an online appointment for a 1pm oil change. Got here a bit early just to make sure I parked in the right place. Parking lot was pretty empty and when I got inside there were two people ahead of me. Fine. This is presently in the middle of the omicron Covid variant and nobody is wearing a mask. I read a previous review that they aren't wiping anything down or covering things in plastic. This is still the case. Really disappointing and not concerned for spreading this. I totally get pulling the mask down when working, and I get having it under your chin as you're walking back to the customer area. But really? I ended up waiting an hour and a half, and paying $90. For an oil change. There's a Pit Pros in Evanston that does all of this, gets you in and out in max 30 minutes, and is one third of the price. The only plus side? They are nice. But didn't apologize for the hour and a half wait. Sadly, this place will only be my *Absolute Emergency* shop. read more

Horrible experience. I had my appointment at 10:30. They said, oil change will take 45 mins. They gave me my car at 2:30pm. Total waste of time and plus the guy did not check the tire pressure (dint check the dashboard alert) he dint fill up the washer fluid or even put in a new sticker for the next oil change! These are standard service which you get anywhere you get oil change. Any local car garage will do this. Horrible service! They are not cheap either. $45 for a conventional oil change for my Nissan Altima. I expect atleast better time management and better service. Not going to them again! read more

I arrived on time for my appointment and once in the store I was informed that they are running 45 minutes to an hour behind, and it would take another 60 minutes to do the oil change. I am new to the area and needed to get my car serviced. I called ahead and was told they couldn't get to my car, but that I could either leave it or make an appointment. I made an appointment for the next day. As it turned out, the staff found an issue. The service man, Abby, at the front counter was great at explaining the issue and presented me with options. Unlike other places, I didn't feel like was an unnecessary upsell. I told him I had a budget and he helped me prioritize what needed attention immediately. At this Pep Boys location I was told by Ben Ortiz that was unavailable. And they had to charge me $90 for a full inspection. That's good old fashioned unethical behavior. Non-existent customer service!! If I could give this place no stars I would! Very unprofessional and most likely racist. I got a flat tire literally one block away and drove to this place for assistance. First they did not acknowledge me waiting then told me to go in to request a new tire without even assessing my tire. When I went in the rude, unprofessional girl at the desk stated they did not have any appointments and I would need to leave my car. What??!! Leave my car when all I needed was a quick tire repair or even for someone to put the donut on. They did not offer any other options! To make matter worse, I called my husband to come and he proceeded to take the tire off in their parking lot. He was having a hard time taking off the tire and NO ONE offered to assist him. Simply inconsiderate, non-empathetic, and in my opinion it could have been a race issue. The way the man and young lady spoke to me so rudely without cause, that is the only conclusion I could draw. I had scheduled an appt for 5pm oil change. Got there a few min early and waited my turn(there was one person ahead of me). My turn came and before I could say anything I was asked to wait while Jose checked out another customer. I waited patiently. When my turn came around again, I explained I had an appt for an oil change. He took my info and my keys and directed me to the waiting area. During the 40 min I waited it became clear to me that this store is run extremely inefficiently. At 545, they still had not moved my car to the garage to even begin the oil change. I walked to the counter and asked Martin for my keys that I simply could not wait any longer. He told me he'd get them after he finished with a customer. Now, the keys are in bag right behind him. He could have grabbed them and handed them to me. But once again, I patiently wait and when he finished with a customer I walked bAck to the counter and he handed me my keys and said absolutely nothing. I get it if they were busy but then someone should have told me right away when I checked in that they were running an hour behind. I should not have simply been handed my keys with no apology as if I was a difficult customer. . I will NEVER go to this Pep Boys again! Very poor customer service and zero communication skills! I had previously been to the pep boys in Des Plaines and was in and out in 20 min and it is where I will be returning. read more

I made appointment for oil change and 4 tires and after bringing car in was told by Martin, the manager that car will be ready around 2PM or so. While checking car he noticed some other things needed attention but I told them not to do that ! Around 3PM I went to store to check on car- it was not ready and I asked to see in what stage it is. By entering shop mechanic (according to invoice his name is Muhamad ) told me that car need new battery, serpentine belt as well as reservoir for coolant to exchange because of leak. I inspected for a leak and refuse to change it, after that his statement was that for that reason he can't change belt and that he is going for a lunch. I told than that I do not want to change battery, and just to finish tires which he didn't start after having car for almost 5 hours! All of that in front of manager standing next to me so he heard clearly everything ! I left the store and around 6 pm finally Martin called me to pick up car. When I asked to pay I noticed that I am charged for new battery and also charge for tires was almost double from advertised and after going back and forth with Martin he gave me some managers discount, I didn't have other choice but to pay bill in order to get car back !!! I was customer at this store for last 4-5 years but this was my last time I stepped in for sure ! read more

The store manager squeezed me in for my tires to be changed because I had a flat. And we're able to also do my oil change and front end alignment. They also finished within 2 hours and stayed late to finish the job! Dennis checked me out and was so helpful and I was so happy not to be charged through the roof!
