In each and every case, Dr. Jane and her wonderful techs evaluated and treated Fred giving him a longer and fuller time with us. In the end - a recurring cancer ended his life. After having fought so bravely through diabetes, Cushings disease, loss of both eyes, diminished hearing and bad teeth - Fred journeyed over the Rainbow bridge in our arms, surrounded by Dr. Jane and the Vet Techs who had cared for him through the years. We love Rosedale Vet! We've been taking our dog here for a little over 2 years. She needed a place where she could build a relationship with a vet and avoid crowded waiting rooms. I've taken two dogs here for about a year and have finally had enough. The front desk person has a major attitude (apparently she's a co-owner of the practice, so this isn't ever going to improve). Both she and Dr. McReynolds seem to have chips on their shoulders that I've never quite figured out. I think I earned a major black mark on my record when my dog was first diagnosed with diabetes. Even though she told me they'd only worked with 2 diabetic dogs before, the very mention of a specialist or a second opinion on the treatment plan caused tension you could cut with a knife. Today was my last appointment with them and when she asked where I was taking him, she snickered and said "Oh yeah, you're the one who thought we didn't have enough experience." That's just the start of the unprofessionalism. If the care were better, it would be easier to look past personality problems. But I'm reading over the records tonight and the staff regularly misrecorded information in the chart. This morning, when I brought my dog in after a night in the emergency hospital, Dr. McReynolds looked confused by many of the details of his treatment overnight. She took it personally that he's been given a different kind of insulin, but totally failed to understand that it was a fast-acting insulin to treat a specific episode, and nobody was questioning her. But again, there's a big chip of insecurity on their shoulders, and that clouds medical judgment. My dog, who is normally well-behaved at the vet or groomer absolutely HATED it here. He yelped and whined the whole time he'd be forced to stay until finally they made me do my own glucose curves at home because he was do stressed by the place. I don't doubt the reviews from people who have just had a few checkups here or those whose pet was "saved" by Rosedale. It seems that when things are routine (and so long as you never, ever ask anything that threatens them), it's a presentable practice. What resonates with me are the stories of missed diagnoses and poor care. If only I'd listened to my gut and gone for that second opinion earlier, I wouldn't have put my dog through the life-threatening "care" that left him so poorly regulated. It's so easy to put our faith in doctors, but where Dr. McReynolds is concerned, I'm reminded of the old riddle: "What do you call the student last in her class at medical school?" Dr McReynolds is one of the most caring vets I've met. She takes the time to explain everything fully and takes the necessary measures to make sure my cat is diagnosed properly while being conscious of my budget. I appreciate how kind her staff is and that the facility is very clean and modern. read more

I took my kitty in for a bladder infection and was very pleased with the service. She had to stay all day to give a urine sample and I felt comfortable leaving her because the staff was so calm and friendly. They provided the medicine and food my girl needed and explained to me how to give her the pills. I would definitely visit Rosedale again. read more

Went to Rosedale for the first time and undecided as to whether I will go back. I did have a bad, stressful experience as did one of my cats. I might be willing to give them another try next year but their prices were high compared to my last vet. Specifically: The exam fee was 31% higher. The FVR-CP vaccine was 45% higher. The rabies vaccine was the same price. Multiply times 2 for 2 pets, that nets a pretty high bill. Overall, 26% more expensive. I did not have bad experiences at my previous vet with wait times, cleanliness, or friendliness either...only switched due to moving locations of residence. Now, with a good experience, I probably would not have looked at the bill as closely. The bad experience came from the practice of taking the animals in the back for shots, etc. Dr. McReynolds told me that this normally works better, in her experience, but mentioned that this was especially true for dogs. The attendant that took the cat may have done so prematurely and he made noises I'd never heard him make before. They eventually asked me to come back and help but he was beyond being soothed, even by someone he recognized, after having evacuated himself. The attendant was bleeding and seemed surprised by this. I brought home a very traumatized and smelly pet along with a smelly carrier. I think this might boil down to this veterinary practice having more experience handling dogs (after all, there are probably more dog owners vs. cat owners and most dogs probably get out more, meaning more injuries and illnesses). Most of the positive reviews I see on here are from dog owners. Dr. McReynolds did seem to have a better handle on things than her attendant. She examined the second cat in the room with me, which went smoothly and promised to notate the other's record to indicate that he should be examined in the room with me as opposed to the back. read more

Sometimes you run into incredibly rude people with zero self awareness. That is the only explanation I can come up with for some of these bad reviews. Trust me when I say, my pup LOVES Rosedale. She gets excited every time we have an appointment, which I find bizarre. The workers are always sweet and Dr. McReynolds has been wonderful. Did an amazing job repairing our girl's mouth after she was attacked by another dog, and the price was unbelievable. I could not believe how well they took care of us. I will admit that perhaps they are kind to us because we don't read up on PetMD and then puff our chests our and pretend that we are more qualified than the Dr. We have since moved to New Orleans, and not having Rosedale is certainly one of the saddest parts about leaving Austin. We started going to Rosedale Veterinary Clinic after Dr Judd started working there. She takes such good care of our little prairie dogs. She has gone above and beyond to ensure they get the best medical options available. We used to see her when she was at North Austin Animal Hospital and we followed her to Rosedale. She still provides the most amazing service. We live in Round Rock and will drive around the world for the best vet.. Good think we only have to drive to Rosedale. :) read more

I lived 2 blocks away when I got Lunchbox and took her to Rosedale to see Dr. Karen. It's always easy to get an appointment and never crazy or chaotic in the office when I visit. (I guess this means that they could use more business, but I can't understand why it's not packed, they're great!) The office is clean and professional looking. The techs and receptionists are nice and Dr. Karen is gentle and knowledgeable. I've brought my dog in 3 times so far, and never had a problem. My dog is pretty healthy, but apparently has allergies and was losing her fur from it. Dr. Karen got her on a omega supplement that has totally helped. I've had to restock on that vitamin since then, and the receptionist was very helpful when i called to price their vitamin to see if it was cheaper elsewhere- and their price ended up being the lowest anyway. I can't imagine this is the cheapest place in town to bring your pet for a checkup, but i don't care. It's very easy and pleasant at Rosedale and I'll keep going as long as I'm in Austin. read more

Dr. Karen McReynolds is amazing. She is very thorough with her examinations and she never tries to upsell, which many veterinarians have bad reputations for. She always offers simple and easy ways to keep my dog healthy and never takes advantage of my concern for my baby! Also, the other day my dog had a terrible reaction to something and was vomitting and pooping all at once and uncontrollably. I instantly called the office and they were just about to close, but Dr. McReynolds waited for me to bring my dog in and treated her for over an hour until she felt comfortable that my dog was on the mend. My dog loves coming here. I'm not kidding. We walk by sometimes after hours, and he stops at the door. My dog had a lot of problems when I got him, and we were there almost every week. Unfortunately, we had an awful experience at Rosedale. We took our adopted kitten there after it continued to scratch its head after being treated for ear mites. Jackson had a bald spot on it's head and wouldn't stop scratching it. The doctor gave it another dose of medicine for ear mites (complete waste of money) and it wasn't until we discovered spots of ringworm on us about a month after the itching began that we realized that's what our kitten had. We googled it and found multiple sites that said ringworm was the most common skin disease among cats and that it's most commonly identified by a bald spot on the head or legs and frequent scratching! Not sure how you miss something so apparently obvious. After dragging out an apology, we took our kitty back a few weeks later since the ringworm wasn't getting better. The vet suggested we start these lyme baths every week. Before doing it, we thought we should get another opinion. When we took Jackson to another vet and that vet noticed his tummy looked like it was full of liquid and pointed out that our cat appeared to have a weak immune system. She suggested we do some tests and she diagnosed our cat with FIP. We ended up having to put our sweet little new kitty to sleep and it was devestating. A follow up call the next day, a pretty/clean location, or nice staff is not the way to pick a vet. I'd much rather take my pet to a vet who knows what they're doing. Sadly, not only did Rosedale misdiagnose a very common ailment, ringworm, but they also completely missed the warning signs of a fatal disease. read more

I just called this clinic out of repeated frustration with my current vet. On the recommendation of a friend, this rude woman answered the phone and proceeded to tell me after a brief discussion of my desire to possibly change vets said that the vet would not call me to talk about my potential move to her. I have to pay for her time and talking on the phone costs the vet money. She wanted 3 pet exam fees for just a meet & greet. Needless to say, I won't be switching to this vet. Very disappointing. You would think a vet with a new clinic and a person calling with 3 animals would be more open to the new business. I guess not. I wish them luck as with the other reviews I am seeing, they are not only expensive but not willing to work for business, just expect it for nothing. read more

I have been very happy with Dr McReynolds. She is very zen, calming and has a memory like an elephant! She is very sensitive to your animals, and remembers incidents vividly, and treats your feelings with respect. I love her and have been taking my two dogs there for over two years. I think the pricing is fair and in line with other veterinary practices. What I love is her "non-overreactive demeanor." I am on a budget, with no pet insurance, and have a dog that is accident prone, weird skin thing prone, limping prone, lodge a corny dog stick in the roof of her mouth and bleed out her nose prone, you name it. She's had it in her short 2 years! I'm not an overreactive dog parent, either- but when I bring her in, Dr. McReynolds never suggests outrageous treatment, and never charges outlandish fees, for what I believe to be excellent service. The staff is nice, and I am very happy I switched to this vet, and would recommend it highly! VERY clean office and exam rooms, too! read more

I think vets are outrageously overpriced as many shots can be obtained at feed stores at a fraction of the cost, however the crew at rosedalw greets you quickly and with a smile . I have been searching for a "vet home" for awhile. The search has been complicated by a series of moves around Austin as houses I rented were sold out from under me. Anyways, I've found my "vet home" - a place to take the 3 cats and our new dog for their annual shots and odd ailments. I've waited about 6 months to write this as I wanted to make sure I really, really am satisfied with Rosedale. I like the how friendly and professional everyone is. I also like the way the vet talks to me (yes, I've been annoyed by vets who seem angry that my pocketbook doesn't have enough in it to cover every test and shot known to mankind). She is down-to-earth and, so far, has managed to correctly diagnose and treat various ailments for two cats. I brought our new pup to meet her (shelter rescue) and she checked her over and had all of her shot info input into her system for reminders. I really appreciate the level of caring and customer service here. All of my companion animals are doing well right now. I no longer have to worry where to take them when they are feeling low. After some bad experiences other places (high cost, low service), it feels good to have finally landed. read more

I've been taking my dog to Dr. McReynolds for a few years now for a few reasons. The office is always clean, and the receptionists clearly love animals. They're always very sweet and professional. Dr. McReynolds is calm and down-to-earth, and she'll make you aware of the different treatment options available based on your budget. I've never felt overcharged or mislead by them. One weird thing they do that I've never experienced at other vet offices is that they let you and your dog (can't speak for cats) into the exam room, but they take them away to do any shots or treatments, then they bring them back to consult with you. This is likely because pet owners usually cause more stress than relieve it, but I'm not sure. Overall, excellent! read more

Dr. Mc rocks solid. I walk in they remember me and my dogs and tolerate my overly obsessive concern about my dogs with patience and humor. Plus, Four Paws doggie day care is also awesome. My dog still recognizes when I dial the Four Paws phone number and gets excited. Since I have rescued another dog he doesn't go so much but I am pretty sure that when he was a regular guest he was the Mayor of FourPaws. We brought our fur baby in because she had a very swollen and painful eye. Knowing that eye injuries are nothing to be trifled with, we had taken her to an emergency vet a few days before, and all they did was gouge us on the price and give us eye drops that did absolutely nothing. So we brought our pup to Rosedale, and they were wonderful! They gave her the correct medication and it fixed her right up. They were patient with my squirmy and anxious pup, and everyone was so friendly. We are so glad that our baby is back to normal and we will definitely continue to bring her to Rosedale! read more

I had a HORRIBLE experience with this vet and would not recommend her to anyone. They overcharged me for flea and tick medicine that I didn't need, then wouldn't follow up with me or work with me. They also take the pets to the back to examine and won't examine the pets in front of the owner. The whole practice is unprofessional and very sketchy. Don't waste your money here. There are too many other great bets in central Austin! read more

Love Dr. McReynolds and her staff! Always very friendly to me and my pets. It seems that every time I need an appointment they are able to get me in quickly and always affordable. I had an emergency before and called them right at closing; Dr. McReynolds stay until late at night fixing my pup and even showed me how to run fluids at home so we did not have to go to the ER vets that are very pricey. I live way up north and will fight Mopac traffic any day of the week to get to her, I hope she never retires! Would recommend to anyone with a dog or cat. read more

I have been an animal owner for over 30 years and have been in Austin since 1986 and have gone to 3 clinics during this period. When I learned about Dr. Karen McReynolds and her professionalism and care for animals I waited for her to open up Rosedale Vet so I could move my animals to her. She and her staff "go the extra" mile for their customers! We have a border collie that we rescued as a puppy. She has seen him through stages of seizures, allergies, skin/hair issues and thyroid problems. We have two other rescue dogs and whether it is a check-up, teeth cleaning or a "my dog is not acting" normal, she and her staff give you the attention and understanding of what is going on. Horrible. My cat is on a prescription diet. My cat has had cancer and a history of some pancreatitis in the past and has allergies so it's critical that she eat the right food to manage her conditions. It is critical that she eat the PRESCRIPTION FOOD. This clinic makes it so difficult to obtain the food, I dread calling every 3 months to fill the prescription. The the staff is rude and consistently uninformed. When I call to order a refill of her food I am told that it will be a matter of days and I should expect a call when it arrives. I do not receive the calls. I follow up and am told I can come at any time during business hours. When I arrive, no one is there and there no note posted that they may have stepped out or when they will return. I am self-employed and have clients myself so it's very difficult to get away from my own office so this is a frustrating experience compounded by the fact that when I call to find out what happened or when I can pick up the food, I am spoken to rudely and given no other options but to wait until the following business day (2 more days because of a weekend) in order to pick up the food. This week I called on Monday to get the food refilled. I was told to bring my cat in for an examination before they could continue to fill the prescription. Totally appropriate, as it had been some time since her last exam. In the meantime, I was told the food would be ready for me to pick up on Wednesday and I would receive a call. No call. On Thursday I called to follow up and was informed the food is on back order and they didn't know when they would be able to order the food. But that I could get a written prescription to take it to another vendor to purchase the food elsewhere. I could obtain this prescription at the appointment on Friday with my cat. Friday morning (today) I discover the AC in my car is shot and it's over 98 degrees outside. I'm concerned about driving her to the vet. I called to ask what my options were. I was spoken to in a rude and condescending manner and was informed that another person would return my call later. Which I didn't really understand - but okay. At 12:45 I call to follow up as I'm afraid my cat will not have her prescription diet over the weekend, again. I am spoken to again in a rude and condescending manner, when I tried to clarify questions the receptionist yelled, "ma'am DO NOT SPEAK TO ME THIS WAY!" What? I said, "please do not speak to me in the way you just did" and she SLAMMED down the phone. Nice. Rude, unhelpful and not client friendly. I will never return. Apparently it's completely okay to hang up on a customer trying to get her cats prescription food and leave me (my CAT) without her prescribed food. Thank god I wasn't ever in the position of needing a higher level of care for my cats as the communication is awful and I don't trust them at all. Why do people think customers are a dime a dozen?
