Despite one opening in my city of El Monte only a few years ago, I chose to continue going to this one. Without an appointment, I went in today Thursday at 8:00 AM opening time for the mandatory in-person renewal, and I applied for Real ID which I did the pre-approval portion online. A co-worker told me about the Get In Line feature when visiting the DMV website. I pulled into the parket lot, got "in line" using my mobile, and was 6th place in line. I walked into the lobby, sat down, and my number was called within minutes. I presented my paperwork, confirmed my info, took my thumb print, did the vision test, took a picture, and I left the DMV in less than 30 minutes. Best DMV experience ever.

I also wanted a Real ID so I followed the instructions online, downloaded the necessary documents and was able to make an appointment. Today the appointment went smoothly and efficiently. I paid my fee, had a new photo taken and was done in less than an hour. Great work by staff there who were pleasant and cordial despite a very heavy workload.

Surprisingly, the experience here was pretty positive on a recent visit. I was helping my cousin get set up with his DL for the first time and the staff were friendly in helping get things set up for him and allowing me to help translate. The person helping us (I wish I got her name but she was really sweet and was learning basic Mandarin to help folks who come through) was able to get set up with the RealID in person, even though all of his documents have not physically arrived. There were some hiccups, as would be expected, but nothing that the staff weren't willing to be helpful and patient with us with. The facility itself is clean and seems well maintained. There was plenty of parking and it was easy to get in. I guess when I finally come back to socal permanently, I'll likely end up coming to get my license at this location!

This DMV is incredibly unorganized…read more The first time I came was about 8 years ago to take my driver's test which was a pretty good experience. I had no issues whatsoever. The second and last time I came here was a different story. There was a female employee who was yelling at people and pointing for them where to go. So unprofessional. When it came to my turn, I was confused to where she was pointing at and yelling at me where to go since she was behind the desk but she continued to just yell louder and give me attitude like I was a back in grade school. I'm a substitute teacher and I don't even talk to my students that way. I went up to her to ask her a question and she just gives me attitude back again. The other employee next to her was more patient and professional. But my goodness I've never had to deal with such a rude, unprofessional employee anywhere before. The whole DMV was just chaotic. I typically go to the one in Arleta and it's much more organized no matter how packed it gets. Definitely won't be back there again.

The staff here were efficient and pleasant to interact with during my visit. - - - - - - Like most DMVs I've visited, this location doesn't have the most convenient entrance /exit to the adjacent street. Overall, there were no signs of what to do or where to go, so make sure to ask around. No appointment? Walk all the way in and queue up. Visiting on a weekday afternoon at 4:10pm, I was able to get seen within 20 minutes (!) after receiving a number. Other than the difficulty finding the queues, there isn't quite "good" organization here. I would describe the location of each service as fairly chaotic, though the nice part is the waiting area is together, and the windows are on the sides. Once you figure out the process, though, its buttery smooth.
