I've ordered delivery from Rosati's on 11/24/18. I've heard nothing but great thing about the restaurant from coworkers, so I took it upon myself to order delivery. I ordered a pepperoni deep dish pizza with wings and a soda. I've got to say that the pizza and wings were pretty good. Normally, a pizza pie has 8 slices but not this pizza. The pizza slices are squares, and it makes the portion size manageable. I got to admit the pizza's is on the pricey side, but it's well worth the good quality and taste! I've lived in the Frederick area my whole life but have never had Rosati's pizza... Last night was a first, but certainly not a last. We got a deep-dish, which my boyfriend said was their "specialty", and it was great. Arrived ahead of schedule (we got delivery), and had a lot of flavor combined with a great dough. The boyfriend got wings, which looked great, but he described as "OK". I have no real input there, cuz why eat wings when you have pizza? One note: this place uses large chunks of tomatoes in its pizza sauce. I know a lot of people who don't love tomato and probably wouldn't love that sauce as much as I did. read more

Order for pick up on a Friday evening. Was quoted about 40-45 minute wait, which was shorter than I expected. The pizza was ready to go when we got there. We ordered a deep dish and a thin crust. The deep dish was pretty yummy. Just the right amount of sauce, cheese, and toppings. Cooked so it wasn't too crunchy and wasn't too soft/soggy. The thin crust looked okay, honestly I didn't try it. Never heard of Rosati's Pizza before, not sure why, this place is great! They have a lunch deal that I got with a jumbo slice of sausage pizza and a drink for $5 ready walking in. The mozzarella cheese is piled on top of the sausage sitting in thick sauce. The crust took me a minute to figure out because it is just like a Philadelphia pretzel but without the salt topping. They have outdoor seating but looks like mostly takeout or delivery. read more

What an awful experience I had today while biting this local restaurant. All orders were backed up, the wait was more than 1 hour for a pizza, and they continued to take orders knowing they could not prepare the food promptly. They would not even apologize and had no care for people's time. What is upsetting is they continue to tell everyone over the phone their order only takes 25. This is a deceitful practice. Way heavy on the cheese and the toppings are underneath the cheese which I don't particularly prefer. I also didn't particularly care for the crust. I felt it was doughy and not pleasant tasting... to top it all off it was quite expensive. Others May find it something they like but I won't be going that route again.. I ordered a thin crust it was the best thing crust pizza I've had thus far, they loaded up the toppings and real itailan sausage. It's a takeout place, with no seating. My family and I were in the area and noticed they served Chicago style deep dish. Customer service was great. I ordered two Chicago style pizzas one with spinach and mushroom and the other was their "monster" with a bunch of different toppings. Both were good, but not excellent for Chicago deep dish. For the DMV area it's great. Considering the lack of Chicago style deep dish in the DMV, however, I'd definitely order here if I'm ever in the area again. read more

I grew up in Chicago and know Chicago-style thin crust pizza, having eaten it as a child living right smack in the middle of true and true Chicago (not in suburbs or in fancy homes or apartments in and near downtown where transplants tend to congregate, many of them not understanding what true Chicago is like, including the pizza). Ever since I moved to the East Coast, I've been looking for authentic Chicago pizza for years and had not been successful. I tried pizzerias in places like Florida and Virginia that imported ingredients from Chicago to make "true" Chicago pizzas, but none tasted authentic. Many in the Chicagoan diaspora know what I'm talking about. There were theories among us as to why these pizzas didn't taste authentic, with the most popular being that the water used to make the crust was different from that in Chicago. Well, I have news for the Chicagoans who live in the mid-Atlantic area. I finally found a place that produces Chicago thin-crust pizzas that taste authentic and that place is Rosati's in Frederick, MD. I found it almost by accident, when I just happened to be in Maryland on business. Granted, I was about 80 miles away (in driving distance) in a different part of MD, but after I heard about Rosati's in Frederick, I had to drive there and try that place. And I'm glad I did. I ordered the thin-crust sausage and it was delicious, as in delicious authentic Chicago pizza. It smelled and tasted just like the pizza I had growing up in Chicago. This place is now my new pizza Mecca. I live in NJ, but once every couple of months, when I get that intense pizza craving or if I want a taste of home (yes, my true home will always be Chicago), I will drive there to Frederick, MD, to pick up a couple of pizzas, bring them back home in NJ, and heat them in the oven to get them hot again. I found that heating them for about 8 minutes in an oven pre-heated to about 425 F degrees is enough to get them back to perfection again. (You will have to experiment with whatever ovens you have since not all ovens are the same. But once you smell that Chicago pizza aroma pouring from the oven, then you know that the pizza is ready.) For those who think true Chicago pizza is deep-dish, I can only tell you that you're wrong. If you go to a pizzeria located in any neighborhood in any deep part of Chicago that has not been contaminated by transplants, you will see a steady stream of customers walking in and ordering nothing but thin-crust, even though deep-dish is also on the menu (for the occasional visitor or transplant). All it takes is for you to visit any of those pizzerias to convince yourself that true Chicago pizza is thin-crust. I'm mentioning this because there seems to be an intense hatred of "Chicago-style" pizza by those on the East and West Coasts and many places in between, who think that the only Chicago pizza is deep-dish and deep-dish is apparently not considered to be true pizza by many. BTW, for those who discover that they don't really like the pizza from Rosati's, well, what can I say. Taste in pizza is highly subjective and there is really no such thing as the "best" pizza. The "best" pizza for you is whatever type of pizza you grew up with, so you may find that the Chicago pizza tastes so different that you may not like it (although many whom I introduced to the Chicago thin-crust pizza found it very delicious). As for me, I tried the New York-style pizzas that were touted as the "best" in a book written by a "pizza expert", and I hated them. The book listed pizza places that were located close to where I was in NJ and I tried the pizzas from those places and did not like them at all. That "expert" also trashed Chicago as having the worst pizza because he thought that the only Chicago pizza was deep-dish. That was when I lost all trust in him as a "pizza expert". After reading that book, I concluded that it is simply not possible to write a book about the "best pizza" because, again, "the best" is highly subjective and is best left for each person to decide. Also, if you hear anyone living in Chicago claiming that true Chicago pizza is deep-dish. that person is either a transplant or a descendant of a transplant who never really mingled with the true Chicagoans. Sorry, but just because you moved to and lived in Chicago for a certain period of time does not make you a true Chicagoan. However, I also attended a high school in an affluent suburb, a suburb that was mostly populated by transplants who moved to Chicago to work as executives in companies that are headquartered there (Chicago is also well know for that), and my friends from that high school who were children of those executives all knew and ate only the true Chicago pizza, which was the thin-crust, even though they could easily afford to eat the more expensive deep-dish. So I know that it is possible for some transplants to become true Chicagoans, once they are properly assimilated into the culture. read more

This pizza joint looks like a chain restaurant on the outside. You could strap a chili's sign on the building and no one would blink an eye. Let's start with the apps. Nothing crazy special, standard pizza joint appetizers - breaded mushrooms, ( really good ) pizza sticks, fried mozzarella cheese sticks and so on. The common theme on the Appetizer menu is " fried " The pastas all look good, I have not tried yet but I look forward to trying the lasagna as I am one with a good lasagna. The anti pasta salad is excellent. I get it every time and it is extremely fresh and paired with the balsamic dressing it could be a meal. Now, I am extremely picky when it comes to pie. I grew up eating Chicago deep dish almost every weekend ( we have a lot of family in Chicago ) and there is a fine line between acceptable pie and an imitation. This deep dish is the real deal. Ask for it to be cooked medium ( they leave it in for acouple extra minutes ) as you get a crunchier bottom crust - this pie is a heavy weight!! I have had all the real pizzas here Margarita is legit with really fresh tomatoes and I believe fresh hand pulled mozzarella balls. Winter in Maryland and we are getting fresh basil and tomatoes with flavor.. yes please!! I like a lot of toppings but I also like simple flavors as long as there are flavors and this pie is anything but bland!! I've read other comments that describe the pies as good but tasteless crust and so on. I recommend that those people stick with papa johns or dominos excuse for pizza. If you want a real Chicago style experience, this is your place. I also recommend swinging by for lunch and grabbing a slice and a drink for 5 bucks - that'll make you happy for the rest of the day!! The staff is very well trained and while I can't speak of the kitchen, everything else is crazy clean which is a huge pet peeve of mine and will cause me to walk out of a restaurant. Check it out! This might not be a big deal to others as it is for me, but I was kind of grossed out with my experience here. I ordered a steak sandwich, exchanged money with the cashier who was wearing gloves. Watched him make two more cash transactions with the same gloves on his hands. Then watched that cashier walk back to the kitchen, touch his face, and proceeded to make my sandwich. I called him out on it, he apologized, and offered to make me another sandwich. I declined, and went on my way. I ordered the Italian sausage sub with marinara. It was very good all the way around from bread to ingredients. We also ordered a Rosatis sub. Instructions were entered to remove the pepperocini and onions but these items were not removed. The onions were diced and impossible to remove. The pepperocini we removed ourselves. Other than this the food was very good. French fries were great. Packaging and presentation was terrific. read more

There were lots of good pizza choices but nothing compared to what we were use to back home. Then I saw Rosati's Pizza here in Frederick this weekend. Could it be the same Chicago Pizza we were so desperately seeking available right here in our new home? What a shock we had to learn it was no consequence and yes it was the very same pizza we longed for and not some weak attempt to copy the original. I am new to the area and am always trying to find some local gems. We ordered a Family Special and my goodness they gave us SO much food! This place is great. We ordered curbside and it was ready maybe 45 seconds after we pulled in the space. The staff could not have been more lovely. Everything was exactly how we ordered it. My girls loved their spaghetti, we got a thin crust pizza that was exactly like we wanted it and we also ordered chicken parm but we can't even eat it because of everything else. So so good. I placed my order through grub hub and they failed to show up to complete my delivery when I called the restaurant the gentleman inside was very sorry about the mix up and waited at the restaurant until I showed up (after hours) to complete the order. Second time was not a charm when I ordered pizza to go. We had ordered once for lunch and tried a deep dish and a thin crust pizza and it was okay. On a whim we thought we were hungry for deep dish, so let's try Rosati's. The deep dish (sausage) had maybe three pieces of sausage on the entire pizza. The pizza itself was not flavorful in any way except for the tomato sauce on top. The cheese didn't add any flavor in any way. The second pizza we got was a reg specialty pizza double crust that was messy and again the sauce provided the only flavor (bbq). Unfortunately I would not recommend and doubt I will try again for a third time. Save your money and try elsewhere. read more
