When you think you found a great Thai place then don't hesitate to try another. It seems that this kitchen is so influenced by family recipes that you can have menu items and all are tasting different - but all are tasting so good.
Following my own advice I today joined Rosas and not only was the staff friendly and the kitchen fast the food was on par and delicious.
Different continent but definitely not a different cuisine. Rosa's offers a wide selection of appetizers and that always draws me In. So I'll order
- pork skewer (moo ping) in honey marinated not sweet as you would expect but perfectly balanced in taste - actually one of the best skewers I'll have. it comes with a tamarind dipping sauce. The sauce was not my favorite but I'll order
- sweet corn fritters (Rodman khaopod) with Rosa's sweet chili sauce and I used that sauce for the pork skewers and that was just so perfect. I was not a big fan of the fritters the kaffir lime was a bit too fragrant/perfumed for me - technically nothing wrong just not to my taste
- homemade spring rolls (por pia tod), crispy and with a good filling
And finally, the biggest surprise is crispy pork bellies (moo Todd nam jim jeaw) and here we go who knows crispy pork bellies will learn that the Rosas family has a different way to make them. At Rosas, they are battered and then fried. Again the accompanying chili dip was not bringing the extras so I again used Rosa's homemade sweet chili dip and was in pork belly heaven. The batter was delicious and surprisingly that was a way I could eat a not-crispy pork belly then inside of the batter the pork was not crisped up. But as said together it was just a very delicious appetizer.
I can see why this is a classic snack in Thailand!
the main one I decided on was the chili & basil sir fry (pad kra prow) and the manager recommended it with minced chicken so I had to go with it. And again I was not disappointed it was so simple and so good. It was hot and in Both ways very spicy and served hot (just as I like it, I'll hate when the kitchen serves food that is lukewarm). It was a very delightful dish.
And normally I don't go for dessert since the typical sticky mango is a) huge b) I am not a fan of the mango itself as a fruit but Rosa's offers a small, little sticky rice and instead of a mango fruit they make their own mango sauce with sesame on top. They had me at sesame! And this was a perfect ending to a great meal. it took away the spiciness of the main! Just a perfect two-bit size and the mango with sesame made the perfect combination to the sticky rice. Very yummy
So don't be afraid to try this Rosa's version of Thai kitchen you will not be disappointed. read more
