Had a really great experience at Try Thai with my party of 5 during a short trip to Manchester. The service was amazing, wait staff was really friendly, and the food was great. Some dishes that stood out were the Pad Thai and Yellow Curry. I would have personally liked the dishes to be a bit spicier though, so I'd recommend clarifying your preferred spice level to them because even a dish with their highest spice level turned out to be not very spicy and definitely less spicy than a dish with a lower spice level. The menu is really large, so it was difficult to choose, but we ended up enjoying everything we ordered. We also ordered some desserts after (fried ice cream, rainbow bean mix, buko pandan, and thai tea); desserts were good but nothing special. Next time, I'd probably opt to get dessert somewhere else. The restaurant itself is very cozy and beautifully decorated. Highly recommend to anyone looking for good Thai food in Manchester.

Stir-fried beef with cashews which came with plain rice

This Thai restaurant that is located in the heart of Manhattan Chinatown offers good Thai food at very reasonable price, particularly during weekday lunch time and on Monday through Thursday before 6:30pm when they offer the 2- or 3-course Happy Hour menu. I arrived on a Thursday evening at around 6pm, so the Happy Hour menu and the regular menu were both offered to me. I chose the steamed mussels as my first course, and got about 10 mussels served in a bamboo steamer basket together with some julienned hot chili peppers, so this may not be a good option for someone who cannot eat any spicy food. For my main course I had the stirred fried beef with cashew nuts and white rice (Note: Besides white rice which they called "boiled rice" there were also coconut rice, glutinous rice, or fried rice options to choose from). Both courses were very delicious and satisfying, and the staff were all very pleasant and efficient despite the restaurant being quite full on a Thursday evening. I would have given them a 5-star review if they had not brought me a check with 13 items and a total amount of over £80 on it, as the staff who had printed and brought me my check should have noticed the error. It probably wouldn't make sense for 1 person to be able to consume 13 items alone, especially when both of their courses' portion were reasonably adequate for 1 person and were not very small. They were quick in correcting the error after I had told them about it.

This place has really nice food. You can opt for more budget lunch menu in the afternoon, or regular one in the evening. The dishes are just delicious, you can't go wrong, and reasonably priced. I recommend to make a reservation if you want to go there, as it can get quite busy!

We booked a table for 9 people at 5:45 on a Friday evening. Due to the size of our party we were asked to put down a £5 deposit per person which seems to be a fairly standardised practice in restaurants nowadays. We arrived slightly early and were offered seating in the downstairs bar area, where we could order drinks as we waited. The table was ready for us within a few minutes so the drinks we ordered were bought up to our table. Service was friendly and very quick. I tried number 61 on the menu which is the three flavoured sauce. The description of which is 'Crispy stir fry with Thai style three flavoured sauce garnished with crispy basil leaves'. You get the choice of numerous different types of meat and all dishes on the menu can be made vegetarian with just vegetables or with tofu and beancurds. I decided to have roast duck as the meat in my dish, which I was a happy to see was the same price as chicken, beef and pork. The duck was cooked to perfection with a slight crisp to the skin and a hint of pink running through the meat. The sauce was to die for, the mixed spice flavours had hints of hot spice, sweet tang and a smokey aftertaste. The menu as far as I could see didn't confirm if rice was included with the meals, however the serving staff were happy to explain the menu and what different types of rice or sides could be ordered for a small charge. The only criticism I can give is that there was far too much garlic in the dishes, but of course that is common with Asian type dishes and also it's just my personal taste preference.

Next time you venture into China town in Manchester, you must try Try Thai. Now there's a tongue twisting phrase that you're unlikely to forget my Yelpopian friends. (say it again) Nestled quietly and discretely on Faulkner street, this place is an absolute gem. The atmosphere is vibrant and decor is what I'd describe as bold and beautiful. Luckily unlike the American soap the food is far from bland. I had the pleasure of trying a few starters and here comes my verdict. First up on the podium was coriander beef, and it was delicious. The crispy texture of the meat, the spices and the coriander twist was a sublime combination worthy of any carnivorous palate. Next up were the stuffed chicken wings. This was a starter that just melted in the mouth. Once the grills had crunched their way through the yummy lightly salted batter, the incredibly soft chicken inside just sank blissfully in the depths of the esophogus. Last but not least if trying new things isn't your cup of tea then you can always go for the tried and tested Satay chicken, which is well cooked and combined with a fiery chill sauce will wet your appetite indeed. For the mains I am delighted to report that Try Thai passed the Chicken Pad Thai challenge. A challenge I have created for myself more than anything else, because if they serve it I will try one of my favourite dishes. I shall be returning indeed to try Try Thai once more. Until then, enjoy the colourful treats that are my photos from the visit. Until next time over and Yelp out!!

Coconut chicken soup

This was one of the best Thai meals I have had in Manchester in recent months. We arrived at 1pm and it was heaving! We were told it would be about 15 minutes wait but we were sat down to a table within 5 minutes so good start. We dined on the £9.50 lunch menu where you get a choice of starter, main and ice cream or coffee. The mains come with either boiled or fried rice. To start I had the coconut chicken soup and my girlfriend had chicken satay.  Given how busy they were service was very quick. The soup was very creamy with a slight kick of chilli and lovely fragrant flavours. The satay was excellent and was crammed full of peanuts in the sauce. For mains we had beef with chili and sweet basil stir fry and a yellow chicken curry - both with boiled rice. These were excellent and the portions were quite large especially for what you pay at lunch. To round a nice meal of we both had ice cream. They serve the lunch menu 'till 4pm every day of the week. So if you're thinking of where to go for a bit of lucnh definitely try Try Thai.

Well SHIT....: this place was dayyymn good. I came here expecting the same old shit but boy did it experience but not did it blow the Homer Simpson socks off my feet First off the service was A ONE (excellent) we came here dressed like bananas in pyjamas but they treated us like royalty. We got a great seat by the window the drinks were funky and a great selection. Portion size was very good value for money. I didn't come here to play ...we knew what we wanted to order so two curries...one green on e red and thick..my god .... did that hit the SPOT!!! Service was very fast and we were very hungry. If you come to try Thai you just try (no pun intended) the curry even thought I've had my fair share of spectacular curry this is defs one you must try in Manchester....a great date spot. Not too expensive they have wine cocktails ...nice atmosphere...centre of town a good business spot too. Come join us at try Thai!

Beautiful flowers that pop up in your Jasmine tea!

I often find that how busy a restaurant is normally an indication as to how good the food will be. I came here with a couple of friends on a Saturday night and we couldn't get a table till 20.45, but I was really glad we made a reservation as the restaurant was absolutely jam packed. We were seated in the waiting area, whilst our table was made ready and ordered drinks from the bar. As well as an array of cocktails they have Chang and Singha, which took me back to memories of holidays in Thailand. We were taken upstairs and the restaurant was vibrant and colourful, and there was a babble of excited conversations from the diners. It was busy, but not so loud that you couldn't hold a conversation. We ordered lots of dishes to share: chicken satay, tempura vegetables, massaman lamb curry, beef yellow curry and pad Thai with prawn. For dessert we had the banana fritters. The food was authentic, delicious and I was left feeling absolutely stuffed and disappointed with myself that I couldn't finish it. For me, the Pad Thai was particularly great, it has a lot of flavour and spice, and you could really taste the peanuts. However, for me my absolute favourite part of the meal was the flower jasmine tea at the end. I was amazed at how the flowers grew in the boiling water. At only £2 they are definitely worth getting for the novelty. All of the above came to £25 per person, including a tip, and we came away extremely happy. I've not eaten out much in China town in Manchester before but it was buzzing, and I would love to come back another weekend. I recommend trying this place if you love Thai food, but definitely book a table.

Steamed muscles with Thai spices.

The food and atmosphere was amazing. I have been living in Manchester for 8 months and I have never ventured into China Town for dinner. My friend wanted to have Thai food for his birthday celebrations so after turning to Yelp for some advice "Try Thai" came out on top. I booked a table for 7pm and on a Tuesday I was expecting it to be quiet but the atmosphere was great. The staff were friendly, and helpful. We had the stuffed chicken wings and steamed muscles to start which were both amazing, the dipping sauce had a real kick to it. For mains we both had crispy pork pad Thai which for £9 tasted incredible. Would recommend this place highly for affordable yet tasty Thai food in the city.

Jumbo prawn main

I love Try Thai. It's such a little gem in the centre of China Town (and it can be hard to even find their door) but it's so worth sourcing out! There's so much on the menu, but I love it because you can actually keep quite fresh and healthy here! On my recent visit I got the pork toast (SO yum) and then the jumbo prawn main - the word jumbo doesn't do it justice, they are enormous and you get so very many of them! In just the right amount of sauce too, for the flavour but without drowning them. The staff here are attentive and very quick, they're almost overstaffed usually which is pretty lovely. Wash everything down with a Chang; you have to!

Sweet corn cakes #vegetarian

Try Thai in Manchester's Chinatown was a little hard to find and we somehow managed to walk past it once, but I am so glad we perservered. It's very well reviewed on Yelp so I had high expectations. I wasn't disappointed! We booked a table for Saturday evening and it was a good job that we did. The restaurant itself, upstairs and spread over two floors was positively heaving with happy diners. We were shown to our table on the top floor which was very smartly decorated. I had no need to worry about the availability of vegetarian options and was spoiled for choice. I went with the sweetcorn cakes with a spicy dip to start and a vegetable dish with some kind of ribbon noodles for main course. I can't remember what everyone else had, but there were lots of positive comments as everyone tucked in. My dishes were reasonably priced and the service was brisk and friendly. No room for dessert! This was my first foray into Manchester and I may have found the best Thai restaurant on my first attempt. Definitely going back for the lunchtime deal next visit! There's a reason this place is so busy. Glad I followed the crowds!

Our Airbnb host recommended this place to us, and we are huge fans of Thai food, so we gave it a shot. We started with the fried aubergine in Panang sauce which was WOW. So good!! Then we had the Jungle curry and green curry, which were both fantastic. The Jungle curry was spicier than we expected but not too spicy to distract from the delicious flavors. The green curry was just the perfect amount of spicy, with a killer flavor. We loved the vibe here as well and the staff was nicely attentive. I wish I had more room so I could try their Thai iced tea! Absolutely recommend.

In Manchester, there are a few notable Thai Restaurants, all of which are a good standard, but I have to confess; I have found the best! Try Thai is in the heart of Chinatown, wedged between two excellent value Chinese restaurants, and quite often, you see people outside perusing the menus, unable to decide. If I had a choice, I would shove them straight into Try Thai. Depending on what you like and how much spice you can take, choice is not a problem. If you visit before 5pm, the restaurant has to most amazing value menu. You can have one starter, one main and ice cream or coffee (filtered!) for £6.50. There is a more expensive menu at £9.50 which has more seafood ingredients. There are 10 choices in each section, so it will cater for you if you are a vegetarian, or if you can't handle spicy food. Just to let you know how good value it is, I had a steamed mussels on the £6.50 menu as a starter and on the evening menu, that costs £5.95 alone! I always has the special, and I can tell you they never scrimp of portions, not do they westernize their dishes so they taste like bland curries. This is the real thing - so if you need it toned down a little, say so!

We had such a nice evening and dinner was delicious. I ordered the Chicken Sateh for appetizer followed by the Green Curry with Prawns and side of sticky rice for my main meal. The prawn crackers here are to die for and I tend to go for the pad thai, veg or chicken as a main. This dish is huge so I usually don't get anything else as I can barely finish the pad thai. This was not what I expected…read more My friend and I were pretty excited to try Siam Smiles after all the good reviews and were looking forward to some Thai culinary sunshine but both our dishes were seriously sub par. I had a soup with roast pork belly - the soup lacked any depth of flavour; the meat was just ok. My friend's chili and garlic chicken and rice dish looked totally uninteresting and was basically just a pile of raw chilis on top of some boring looking chicken and rice. She really didn't like it. Drinks wise they were out of lychee and regular Coke (my nightmare!!! Jk. But kind of not jk) so I decided on jasmine tea which cost £1.50...for a mug of hot water with a tea bag dumped in it. Hm. There are two menus shown on yelp at the minute - from November 2014 and January 2015. Neither are what we were shown, and I think the prices have gone up slightly again. In fact, the dishes now aren't that far off what you would get in nearby Thai restaurants like Phetpailin or even Try Thai or Chaophraya that have far nicer (and warmer) interiors. Might go back and try it again at some point but certainly not chomping at the bit!

The setting is pretty basic, but very clean, with white tables and simple orange plastic chairs. The menu, on the other hand, is pretty comprehensive given that all of the dishes are made by just one cook in their tiny kitchen at the back of the store. Some of the dishes we tried were as delicious as you'd find in places much more salubrious than these surroundings. Sharing is definitely recommended due to the wait - see above re: numbers of cooks. The drinks you can order (all non-alcoholic by the way) are simply plucked from the shelves by the waiting staff (bottles of soft drink) or made by the cashier behind the till (hot drinks such as jasmine tea). It's not particularly vegetarian-friendly here, and some of what we had could have been presented/prepared a bit better (I'm not a fan of eating raw ginger slices or whole red chillis, for instance) - but for meat lovers who like their spice, this place is worth trying.

I had never been to 1846 before but looking at photos, a lot of the decor is still the same. It was one of those very warm days in Manchester we had in July - remember them! Actually its apparently a heatwave this weekend! Anyway, arrived at Thai Kitchen and we had a table near-ish the front door - which was open wide to get whatever breeze there was through. I was looking forward to going to Thai Kitchen No.6 after hearing it was a family run business and things are homemade. I heard about it when it was mentioned by chef/restaurateur Gary Usher - Thai Kitchen No.6 is pretty much next door to his restaurant Kala. As I looked through the menu for what food I wanted, the most important at that moment was to see what cold drink they had. Ordered a beer - helped me cool down! For starter, we sort of shared. So I tried some of the Esan Sausage (deep fried Thai sour pork sausage) and the Paw Pia Tod - crispy spring rolls. Both tasted good. Never had Esan Sausage before but tasted good. For the main, I went for the Pineapple prawn fried rice. It tasted good but unfortunately I did not realise it had currants in it - not really a fan of currants (or raisins) so had to pick around the currants - although I did eat some and tasted OK. Maybe absorbed flavour of the fried rice. The pineapple was nice and sweet and fried rice tasty. I should have realised though that it was never going to be a "massive" portion because its served in a pineapple and pineapples are not that big. Next time I go, I think I will go for Hainanese Chicken and Rice - which I almost ordered.

Sadly, they have only had one review since 2016 so perhaps things have changed since then, as my experience wasn't that impressive. On the positive side, I loved the decor, it felt authentic, with an open kitchen towards the back, and Thai themed decor including a map that shown Thailand on the wall. It just felt pretty cool and authentic. The only major problem I had was how cold the restaurant was inside, it was freezing cold, unlike anywhere else in Manchester that day, I was wearing my fully zipped up coat and shivering, despite it being July - which is supposed to be Summer! I was unimpressed with the service, I was not offered a drink upon sitting down, my waiter just sat me down and left me to it, he didn't explain the concept or even ask about my allergies. Another big negative for me was I didn't feel my allergy was taken seriously, I did advise my server I was gluten-free and I explained I had scanned the QR code on the menu for allergy information, she didn't mention anything regarding their allergy policy, nor do anything to give me confidence eating there, I originally wondered if she even heard me mention I had an allergy. I also found it hard to get a staff member's attention when I needed it, such as to request a takeaway box, or even request some more water or the bill. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai, it looked pretty impressive, but I found the taste to just be OK, I do think the noodles were very heavy and there was nothing to balance it out, there wasn't too much chicken and some of the chicken was chewy (I did enjoy some of the chicken though). I found the sauce to be a little too sweet too, especially towards the bottom of the dish, it became too overpowering and a little sickly, it needed something a little bit more acidic to give it a kick for sure. The food menu was reasonably priced compared to nearby competitions such as Wagamama, combined with a number of promotional offers including a 20% student discount and a 30% discount for NHS healthcare workers. I also didn't like how they added a service charge onto the bill of 10%, this was stated in the small print of the menu, the staff member didn't seem too happy about removing it, they refused to even acknowledge me, even to say "Cheerio" after that. I did also notice a charity fee of £1 added onto the bill, this also annoyed me as I should be able to judge which charities I donate to and when, let alone having it added onto my bill without any mention of who the charity is, or what they do (Unlike the service charge the charity charge was NOT stated on the menu!) 2* - It feels authentic but in many ways, I was let down, if you consider the optional charges they add onto everyone's bill, it is one of the cheaper places for Thai food in town, but I really wouldn't advise going somewhere else.
