Thai Kitchen - The place to be for great food

I used to live near this 'restaurant' (actually it is half of a pub) and it actually took me about…read more12 months to try it out as I thought how can a Thai meal be served well in a pub...I was chatting to a friend who said I must try it out. I was sceptical at first, expecting a microwaved meal. How wrong could I be!? We were told on a Tuesday it was curry night - 2 Thai curries with rice for £10. Not bad and not a lot to lose so we tried it out the next Tuesday. We were welcomed by a young man who was very pleasant and he said we can sit anywhere. It has a feel of a pub but this is not a bad thing for an informal bite to eat. The drinks order you have to place at the bar and pay separately as it is 2 separate businesses. This is a strange thing but it doesn't detract from the quality of the food. Also drinks prices are reasonable. The food was served to the table by a lovely woman with a massive smile. The smell as the doors opened from the kitchen was amazing. The presentation was excellent. We hardly spoke whilst eating, it was that good. The penang curry was nice and spicy but full of flavour and the massaman was nice and mild filled with chicken and potatoes. For £10 this place simply cannot be beat on a Tuesday! Even at full prices it is definitely worth it. If you are in early enough you can even get a seat ready for the evening entertainment on a Friday and Saturday which is good if you're into that sort of thing. Don't judge this place for how it looks from the outside as it is an excellent place which deserves to do well.

You won't of tasted anything like it. The food is fresh and flavours vibrant and exciting. The staff are very good too at looking after you and the head chef Loc is one of the best in the business. If you fancy something new and exciting to eat there is no better place to go. p.s. the chicken wings are AMAZING!!!

This was my first foray into Vietnamese food and to be honest i wasnt hopeful when i found out we…read morewere going for ethnic food in the middle class strong hold that is Ilkley. The name upon arrival was also i thought a really bad choice, the connotations of bistro is not one that is synonymous with any part of South East Asia. The atmosphere upon arrival was verging on hostile, the three people who worked there clearly had some issue with us, im not quite sure what, but they were lovely with the old middle class group just in front of us. We ordered spring rolls for starters, not my choice but they turned out to be really nice. I had never eaten them by wrapping a mint leaf then a lettuce leaf around it before dunking it into some dipping sauce; a nice touch i thought! However, one again the service from the three women was steely in its resolution and the wait for food was just far too long! Upon arrival we were given a few prawn crackers between five of us, for the amount of time we had to wait for our order to be taken let alone the food arrive, i would have have thought several more would have been in order. When the food eventually arrived we were asked if we knew how to eat the food, it was at this point she, the manager it would appear, noticed we had a South East Asian girl with us, and said 'ohh of course you know how to eat it'........................ Words literally escaped me! Christine is of Vietnamese descendants , but what an unholy assumption to make! The girls then asked for Sriracha, a standard Vietnamese sauce, which they had no clue what it was. And instead got really quite funny about them asking for it and interrupted the meal several times wanting the name of this illusive sauce. In the end they brought over chilli chopped and raw. The food i had i thought was utterly delicious, i order the green curry as my first baby step into Vietnamese food and was delighted! The girls who all ordered Pho, said it was okay but they had had better. The one saving grace in this place in the cook, without him this place would have closed long ago! It is fair to say though that the massive wait for food is directly due to the fact that he is the only chef. In summary food very good, service absolutely crap! The chef on his own would get 4-5 stars, the service 1, so it really depends how badly you wanted to be treated to get a reward. People with sub ordination fetish' s, i feel you might love the service!

Really great experience!…read more I've been wanting to come here for a long time, back In my student days I walked past it countless of times for some reason thinking I'd never be able afford it aha I was meant to attend here a few months ago with my friend but she got ill however the whole booking journey was a very pleasant one. This time I booked the Thai restaurant upstairs for my dad's birthday. Walking in from the 32°c heat the air con was welcoming. On the tappenyaki floor were wooden elephants and beautiful natural wooden tables etc. Upstairs was beautifully decorated with Thai carvings, paintings and wicker fish traps! I was greeted by name and we had the whole place to ourselves. The menu was diverse with starters costing between £7 to £10 and mains about £15 . After being served cold lemon water by a lovely waiter we chose between us chilli squid, chicken satay and crying tiger (spicy steak) for starters. The steak was a bit overcooked for my preference but it was beautifully cut and seasoned so it still enjoyable although the side salad consisted of iceburg lettuce with no dressing etc. my dad's chicken satay was a lovely portion and looked tasty and my sisters squid was a nice size too. The coating didn't stick very well to it but still very tasty . For mains my partner chose pineapple rice with prawns, myself yellow curry with crispy sea bass, my sister the chicken green Thai curry and my father the jungle curry . Despite the heavy-handed turmeric in the rice this was the closest thing we've had to pineapple rice since our Thailand trip . Was really fresh and tasty . My yellow curry was divine with perfectly cooked sea bass. Both my dad and sisters meal also looked fabulous! At the end they had remembered my dads birthday and brought out a candlelit dessert. Overall a very welcoming service with beautiful food just subtle tweaks though to make it perfect. I will definitely return.
