This grocery store was open for over 50 years. I watched as the best of the greatest generation took care of the people in the community. Over 90% of the customers who traded at Roppolo's Grocery paid monthly and carried credit throughout the month. Not Visa, Mastercard or American Express. Any man or women could come in on any given day and ask Mr Roppolo for credit be given food to feed his or her family thru the week or the month solely on that man or womens word, nothing more. He would send them home with a bag of food. In over 50 years of business he was never robbed. All you had to do is ask. Mr. Roppolo extended his hand to all people. Nobody ever went hungry and the neighborhood community was one of hard work and much love, and most importantly integrity. I had the good fortune of spending over 20 years of my life in this environment. What a blessing it was to be able to grow up in an atmosphere of giving to the community in such a beautiful positive way. Roppolo's Grocery was about all that is good in the great state of Texas, and giving back was a daily giving that I had the opportunity to see each and every day. The store was open 7 days a week 15 hours a day 365 days a year for over 50 years. This is the foundation this great country was founded on, and Roppolo's Grocery truly exhibited the best of what humanity can be and gave back on a daily basis. Unfortunately the store is closed but the memories remain. Many with the Roppolo name continue to make this country proud and give back to the community in a very positive way. The grocery store is missed but the name remains proud, and the memories will live on indefintely. read more
