Roots Yoga Studio is my place to ground, to center and reset. I love this place, and it not only has to do with the actual classes, but also the community of people that come here. It's people that want to take time out of their day to care of themselves and check in on those around them. Ginger does a wonderful job of making people feel welcome and all of the instructors I've taken - on getting a feel for where their students are at "skill" wise as well as safety - checking in if any yoginis have injuries, etc. If you live in the 21st century you know that fitness classes are expensive. Ginger often does discounts around holidays that included $10 classes for $100 - a steal for these kind of classes and makes it accessible for those who maybe can't afford this all the time. It is a basic flow. Teachers are very nice. It isn't much different than a gym class. No alignment or instruction on breathing or linking movements. Kind of gymnastics and aerobics. Teachers are very nice but could use some training. Some bad alignment was seen regularly. read more

I took a class at this yoga studio tonight for the first time. It was easily my favorite yoga class ever! And...I have taken many yoga classes over the years. The instructor was so friendly and she had a really fun playlist. I loved how free I felt during class, the space is very inviting and warm too, which is perfect, especially during these colder months in the Boston area. Another great thing about this studio is that there is a big parking lot with ample parking available. I highly recommend checking this place out. :) read more

I have been going to this yoga studio for a very long time. They have all kinds of classes to fit anyone's skill level and/or hours. Recently I have started going more frequently. I am 6 months postpartum and I swear this is the solution to any physical/emotional depletions from 9 months of pregnancy, birth and handling life as a first time mom. I was in so much pain and am not anymore ! Ginger is absolutely phenomenal and her classes are always unique. I overheard someone saying this the other night and I couldn't agree more. I walk into the studio not really knowing exactly what I need but somehow each class ( by any instructor ) seems to resolve my physical and spiritual needs. 10/10 recommend read more

I took my first ever yoga class at Roots Yoga back in 2012 and it was the BEST decision I've ever made. I have been practicing at the studio ever since that first class, for over 10 years now. Ginger is absolutely amazing and the community she has created and maintained over the years is like no other. My friend with autism has been denied classes here not once but TWICE. Avoid this place at all costs.

Classes are fabulous, Instructors are all top notch. Great direction, lots of challenge but also paced so beginners don't feel alone. Ginger is amazing and she has taught her instructors well. I'm hesitant to write this review because I don't want to share this hidden gem! This is my go to yoga studio because of the welcoming environment and the variety of classes. Shout out to Tina and Linda for always being constructive, positive and a joy to learn from. I absolutely love the Yoga Pilates class Tina has, it kicks my butt way more than any Pilates studio ever has- I was sore for two days after and I work out a lot! Linda's beginners yoga is a no-judgement zone where I know I can work on making my moves more defined as I get more comfortable with the practice. Definitely recommend! read more

It's unfortunate to have heard from my friend that her daughter had been discriminated against and told she could not attend a yoga class as her autism was too "disruptive". Even worse that multiple people from the class inserted themselves to say they did not feel the class had been disrupted by my friends daughter when they heard what the yoga instructor was saying. Despite these other people stating they were not bothered by my friends daughter this business still insisted she not return for a class. It hurts not just people with autism but their family and friends as well. Extremely disappointed that these incidents are still happening in 2022. read more

Worst yoga studio ever. Problems with this studio: #1 Too Small: Last time I attended a class there were 22 people packed into a space slightly larger than my living room. This studio is far too small. You pay and reserve a spot online before the class, but they clearly have no limit on how many people they will let into a class. You can't do a pose without hitting someone next to you. I felt like I was in a clown car. #2: Inaccurate class description and poor instruction: I attended a beginner class which was too difficult for beginners. I have attended numerous beginner classes at different studios and have a good sense of what a beginner class entails. This is completely inaccurate. The studio is too small so the instructor does not do the poses, so you don't have an example to look at. The instructor describes the poses, but sometimes does this quite poorly and then yells at the class for not doing it right. The instructor absolutely should be doing the poses with you especially in a "beginner class" and has no business scolding the class for doing poses wrong. We are grown adults and are not paying to be yelled at by someone who cannot teach. If multiple people in the class are not doing the poses right, then the problem is with the studio/instructor. #3 All they care about is money. They oversell the classes, don't teach well, and pack you in like sardines. The worst part is that they actually hurt clients. One of the classes I attended had an elderly person who was clearly physically limited. She was not able to do the poses the instructor asked us to do and when she was trying to do them, she kept falling and hurting herself during the class. The instructor barely paid attention to her. I was absolutely horrified about how insensitive and cruel this was. This class was completely inappropriate and dangerous for someone with her limitations. They should have directed her to a class environment where she could get the training she needed rather than taking her money and letting her be in a class where she could be injured. Shame on you Roots Yoga and Ginger the instructor. read more

After a three month yoga hiatus, I started finding my yoga center again at Roots. Ginger's yoga flow (Vinsaya) classes are great. They offer plenty of positive challenges to keep my body and mind engaged at all moments. The 75 minute class flies by and includes multiple routines of flow. The intense opening poses makes my joints and muscles so happy for days after the class. There variety of the classes offered is also quite amazing, ranging from Bikram to Yogalates to Hatha. There are also classes geared towards little yogis and yoginis. There is no doubt there is something for everyone at Roots. Some classes can be fairly crowded for the studio size but everyone is very accommodating about the spaces. I'm glad to have found my home again at Roots. read more

Excellent yoga studio! I have been to Yoga Flow with Stephanie Noyes and Heated Flow with Monique Hanafin. The instructors provided clear instruction supplemented with uplifting spiritual guidance. I found their words to be very powerful and instrumental to finding my center. It's a fine balance between mediation and exercise. The work outs are hard and I love it. They always provide the option to intensify a move to help push yourself. The classes are 1 hour and 15 minutes which allows for a proper shavasana. It's an amazing yoga studio. Consequently, classes get full. I definitely recommend this place (and reserving classes early). read more

I can't say enough good things about this yoga studio! Ginger is an amazing instructor and always in touch with the class and her students. She begins and ends the class very spiritually, which helps tremendously after a long day at work. The crux of the 75 minute class is a great workout while maintaining that spiritual expression. The other instructors are amazing also, but I have a soft spot for Ginger! Each instructor has their own style but all are very fitting with the Roots yoga theme and are very talented. They offer a variety of classes depending on what you're in the mood for and you can sign in online, making it incredibly easy to make a plan and stick to it (which sometimes I find hard to do otherwise when working a long day... which is exactly when you NEED yoga!). I moved to Massachusetts about a year and a half ago and as an avid yogi I was desperate to find a studio. Since I work in Burlington and drove past Roots one day, I just had to try it out and absolutely fell in love. I love love love Monique and Ginger's heated flow classes. The classes are a great work out and perfect for mind and body rejuvenation. All of the teachers really read the students well and tailor each class to how the students are feeling. One day I rushed into class late from work, telling my friend about a car accident I almost just got into and Monique overheard and sensed my stress level and created such a perfect calming class to match my needs and all the other students. 10/10 would recommend! I was hesitant to try this new studio, as I was happy with where I was practicing. A Groupon opportunity came up that was too good to pass up, so I figured I would try out a few classes and then turn back to my original studio. The website advertised a lot of beginner classes, so I assumed I would find the classes to be too easy. From the moment I walked into Roots for the first time, I realized I was wrong. Ginger was so warm and welcoming and made it a point to learn my name and my background. The class was a great challenge, as Ginger took the time to assess the experience level and goals of the students and tailored the class to what we were looking for. I have noticed over time that Ginger makes it a point to learn every student's name so that she can greet us when we arrive and address us during class. Each class I take - regardless of the instructor - is a wonderful mix of a physical workout and spiritual balance. This studio really cares about the members and regularly asks for feedback to give the students what we want. It shows that Ginger loves what she does, as her warmth and dedication to the practice transcends the environment. The community that has been built in such a short period of time reminds me of how fortunate I am to have tried this studio out. The quality of the classes and atmosphere of the studio is absolutely phenomenal. I really appreciated the fact that Ginger offered a special discount to current students when she ran another Groupon deal for new students. It made me feel that she values the community of students who already attend regularly, and it was her way of thanking us for joining her in her practice. Part of me didn't want to write this review, as it would convince more people to join the studio and make the classes more packed. But that is a selfish point of view. Check Roots out. I've been coming here for a little over a year and love it! All the instructors I have had are super... BUT they tend to over book classes a lot; no one likes feeling like packed sardines. I also wish they had early classes to I could get a yoga sesh in before I go to work but at least they have later classes. after going to classes a handful more times, I realize there are certain SUPER popular teachers for whom the classes are extra crowded, otherwise classes arent always that crowded. I'm an RYT myself, so want to be sure that where I practice has sound teaching technique-- Ginger has selected excellent people who are vigilant about safety and working within the limitations. It's a very personal experience and you always feel welcomed, encouraged and supported; the time here just flies. There's a nice balance of class choices geared to different needs, plus special workshops. Scheduling and sign-up is easy even at the last minute. You only have to look at the smiling faces of people leaving class to know it's a special, happy place. read more

Ginger's Heated Flow class is amazing! She is always energized, helpful, and challenging at every class. I love how she begins the class with an intention for us to go back to during our practice. She provides challenging strengths poses but also gives us relief and surrender with amazing stretches. I've attended 4 classes over 4 weeks with different instructors and it's been a great experience. Being a former male competitive bodybuilder, I carry alot of muscle along with alot of stiffness and tightness. I've already seen improvements with my range of motion, flexibility, balance, muscle recovery time and overall mental well being. I also suffered from a shoulder impingement for years which is almost obsolete. Thumbs up on that!!! Nothing I have done to date has relieved the pain and yoga was the key! And being a guy, I don't feel out of place at all in the yoga studio. The instructors and other students are very friendly, inviting and very accommodating. There's no ounce of judgement. I love the classes here and the staff is wonderful - always asking at the beginning of class if there are any injuries that they should know about to help you modify your poses etc. Not only are the classes restorative, but they make them a fun & positive experience. The studio is warm and welcoming. I always feel a very positive vibe upon entering - I've had classes with Nicole, Ginger & Stephanie & they always help you deepen your poses with instructions and demonstrations or a gentle hand to get that much more from your pose. Love this studio! The space is very nice and cozy. So far I have taken classes by Stephanie, Ginger and Leah and have enjoyed them all. The instructors are helpful and the classes are calming and peaceful but challenging as well. The instructors are great about offering modifications to poses. I always feel comfortable to go at my own pace and to stop when I need to. There are still more classes I want to try; they have a great variety. I went to the beginners workshop a year ago February and have been hooked ever since. Ginger is amazing and so are all the other teachers. It's such a relaxed and comfortable studio and everyone is so wonderful. I can't say enough about Ginger, Julie, Terry & Monique - I've never left a class without feeling like a better me for having been! I have been going Roots yoga for over 3 years, following their instructor Julie from another studio. I love Julie, she is great. If you're starting a new practice I'd say she will make you feel great. I'm a heavy person and some days can't touch my toes and I like that Julie is always encouraging. She'll always tell you "its OK, your body might not do that today," and "listen to your body, not your ego" and that helps about not being able to do some of the poses as gracefully as I'd like to. I started in the beginner class and that got too full so I started going to Julie's hatha class. I like Roots, its a very welcoming studio. I have taken only a few classes with other instructors but they were good. I've also taken two of their workshops and I'll be trying more of those in the future. This studio is the longest commitment I've ever made to exercise and I plan to keep coming even though I have moved farther away. I'd say that a negative is that it can get crowded. I hope they consider a larger location at some point. read more
