We ordered their "go-to" item which is the ribeye steak: 12 full ounces of tasty tender boneless beef served on a bed of mashed potatoes. Accompaniments were a large pickled onion slice & grilled cauliflower & broccoli crowns. We ordered the steak medium but it was cooked more like medium rare. The soup & salad were some of the best openers I've had. And the chocolate mousse dessert did not disappoint. Portions were enormous. So why not 5 stars? The setting while nice, can't compare to other fine dining places that look out on rivers, fields, etc. Here we get views of a busy intersection and a strip mall parking lot. For the prices charge, one would hope for a better setting. And the extreme prices will set most folks back over $100 per diner (assuming full meals, drinks, dessert, tax & gratuities). It was my first time dining at this restaurant. I don't often crave for steak, but Roots would definitely won me over for their tasty steaks. They offer only medium to medium-rare. I would prefer something a little bit more done. But their steaks definitely do not disappoint. I have been to other steak houses in the Portland area. Roots beats other famous Portland steak houses by their flavor, tenderness, service, atmosphere and portion size. However, their menu items are quite pricey. My steak was nicely cooked and seasoned. The mashed potato and veggies were excellent. They topped the steak with couple pickled onion rings which was quite refreshing. And don't forget the garlic infused butter served with the steak. It was wonderful. I had my wedge salad while my husband had their soup of the day. It was a big salad which Ai appreciate. The blue cheese crumbles and salad dressing was fantastic. Beautiful upscale restaurant with plenty of parking. Was able to make reservations fairly easy for a Friday evening on short notice. We were promptly greeted and seated. The Dungeness crab and Avocado was just ok, and nothing to rave about. The cheese plate was quite good with a variety of local American cheeses. Roasted beet salad was good but again, nothing super special. The star of the night was the pork chop which was one of the best I've ever had. Unfortunately the chicken was overdone and dry. Came here as a guest to a company party. It is a fancier fine dining restaurant. Very modern & nice atmosphere. For appetizer we got gnocchi which had a heavy garlic flavor, so delicious for a garlic lover like me. We also got some scallops which were good even though there were just 3 & there were 4 of us at the table. Got the salmon which was really good, seasoned perfectly. I got really excited that they had chocolate souffle on the menu as that is one my favorite desserts. Also got a The thing with this is that I"m used it being served on a plate, so as you cut into it chocolate oozes out. However, this was served in a cup, a bit underwhelming. Tl;dr special occasion service and prices, but lacks in innovation and ambience. 1. Service: 6 stars out of 5. Outstanding service, truly. From the moment we walked in, it was like a dance- the host greets us warmly and instantly, takes our coats to hang, and seamlessly guides us to our table. The server is practiced, a career server. Able to describe everything, make recommendations, and truly be a dinner consultant. As we leave, our coats are ready, no need to ask or point out which one is ours. Not a beat was missed this entire experience. Maybe the best service I've ever seen at a non-michelin restaurant. 2. Food: 4 stars out of 5. The food is excellent quality. The drinks were incredibly crafted. Everything was fresh ingredients prepared correctly. My only knock is that it's a very simple menu and quite pricy- all the dishes are prepared well and taste amazing, but there's nothing truly innovative or novel and dinner for 2 will run you $250-300 with drinks. Truffle crab pasta, roasted chicken, steak. It felt like a "if it's not broke don't fix it" menus, but I wish there was something especially unique that we could only have there that would make me need to specifically go back. 3. Ambience: 3 stars out of 5. I don't think Camas restaurants are very good at ambiance in general, and this place has nice lighting and intimate ambiance, but it's very clear you're sitting in a supermarket shopping center restaurant, and there are some interior design updates that would go a long way. I think they could easily bump up to 4/5 stars by updating the details throughout the restaurant so it feels more 2025 chic and less 2005 chic. read more

3.5 stars because of the Excellent service for my Hubby's Birthday brunch. Good variety on the menu. We started with the toffee beignets and boy they hit the spot! Spicy Bacon bloody Mary's for a few in our party as well. Paul was the winner with his fork and knife chicken biscuit sando smothered in sausage gravy. Definitely as tasty as it was picture worthy. I had the chicken fried steak Benedict and it wasn't as great as I hoped. The hollandaise sauce was not good, the eggs were overcooked and the chicken fried steak was hard to cut through and dry. It should have had gravy vs hollandaise in my opinion. We received 3 vastly different versions of the same dish at our table. Two of the 3 the eggs were overcooked. Some of our plates came out cold and it's surprising since the food took a really long time to come out and it wasn't terribly busy at the time of our reservation. I should have stuck to my first choice before changing my mind. The Rueben was good according to my son and my dad had the mac and cheese. We ended with the toffee cake and the creme brûlée. Wanted some steak and wine and ROOTS more than delivered! The food was absolute perfection and the wine selection was diverse and delicious! I had the short rib (tender and flavorful) and my son had a steak. The service was amazing and I loved the open kitchen. The location is easy to find and lots of parking. We were there on a Sunday evening and it was fairly empty. I did make a reservation though. The location is big and wide open and 'warm' although I was a little chilli. I'm giving a 3 out of 5 for the following: I've eaten here a few times and had their burger. Which is typically juicy and spot on. This time, I ordered it with blue cheese, bacon and mushrooms (each was 2.99)The bacon had a very strong mesquite-y/charcoal-y taste. It was so over powering that it was hard to enjoy. The patty itself was seared but very juicy. However the seared taste did not go well with the over empowering bacon. I could only eat a 1/4 of it. Brought the rest home and still not great a 2nd time. All this for the low low price of $27. Hard pass moving forward (at least for their burgers). Sad, the service was great and I love the ambience. We waited nearly an hour for cold, tasteless dishes that looked better in the pictures than on the plate.The nice reviews are probably fake. The staff were rude and acted like they were doing us a favor by serving us. The manager had an attitude problem and clearly doesn't care about customer service. Dirty tables, sticky menus, and an atmosphere that made us want to leave before we even ordered. Honestly, McDonald's would have been a gourmet experience compared to this. Our server was Andrew, he was friendly and kind. We started off with the beignets = highlight of the meal. For our mains we selected corned beef hash, eggs Benedict and pancakes. The corned beef hash had big chunks of (fatty) corned beef in it and it was difficult to eat. The eggs Benedict = average and the pancakes were cooked well. Wow. I have dined at Roots possibly 100 times in the years that it has been open. Last night was pretty horrid for our group. I have ordered their burger many times because it is one of the best in town. But not last night. It was completely black outside and almost like sawdust inside. No cheese, and no flavor. For $20 you can do better, Roots. The service was also oddly very bad. I'm not sure if there is new management, but I won't be back any time soon. read more

If you can't see the forest for the trees, try looking for the Roots! I don't remember where I heard it, or who told me, but some statement lingering in the back of my head informed me that Roots was considered among the best restaurants in Clark County, if not *the* best. Prior to this last weekend, I'd never put this opinion to the test. Although we only came in for a (staggered) brunch, I have to say that thus far, my wife and I are quite impressed, and Roots definitely is in the running for the title. I had an appointment at the chiropractic/massage clinic nearby, so my wife took the vanguard position and settled in for Crab Benedict and a cocktail while I was kneaded back into shape like a sourdough starter. By the time I caught up with her, she had rave reviews about everything, from the service (swift, polite and impeccable!), to her incredibly delicious breakfast, and the French Gimlet cocktail (her 2nd). I joined her by ordering a bowl of the soup du jour, a Cream of Asparagus with some sort of pistachio crema garnish, which blended surprisingly well. Coupled with a Bloody Mary, and my freshly tenderized back muscles, I was feeling pretty good by the end of it all. Brunch is one of those meals that doesn't get a lot of traction with me, as most places serve up their iteration of the same old thing, pretty much everywhere you go. And yet, every aspect of the experience here was enough to wow us into a return visit, far sooner than later. We suspect that this establishment truly shines during dinner service, so on our next visit, we hope to get to the root of what makes Roots as revered as it is. A true treasure in a food desert like the Couve. This place has that old world charm of service, ambiance, great food and spirits, the kind of establishment that made many big city restaurants known as "a place of fine dining." Prices are in keeping with all that makes this a memorable dining date, I don't eat there as often as I should but that only makes the times I do seem a bit more memorable. Had the Salmon dish that was so fresh, so tasty, and such exquisite service to boot. Drinks were made scratch and you'll know it when you take that first sip. Try it and make your own impressions known, we desparately need more fine dining here. We absolutely love this place. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. it is a neighborhood restaurant that is worth traveling to for the food. They have an excellent wine list and spirits. They focus on fresh and local foods. one thing that is great also, if you want salmon for instance, but you love the accompanying sides that go with the Halibut, they'll gladly substitute. First time at this restaurant and the food was very tasty, especially the scallops. That was the best. The Yorkshire pudding (think deep fried bread in suet) did not need to be part of the braised ribs entree. There was already a lot of food. The beet salad had a fair amount of beets but the plating was off. There were both slices and cubes, and the slices stuck to the bottom of the dish. As for fine dining in the SW Washington state area, there just aren't a lot of choices in our sprawling county. Came to Roots on a Friday for the first time with my husband. I love that they utilize Open Table for reservations which is always a sigh of relief for a busy weekend. The restaurant inside is nice, intimate lighting and we were greeted warmly! We sat in a bar booth for Happy Hour. We ordered two drinks - the grilled shrimp cocktail - the Salmon meal and the Pork chop meal - with the creme brûlée for dessert / they also bring bread and butter. I was thoroughly blown away with the level of finesse, skills and plating in these dishes. My pork chop cane with spatzel and cabbage and it was perfection! The dining area is a warm and inviting modern design, which makes it feel polished and cozy at the same time. Service was prompt and professional, with servers who were attentive and very friendly. We had the seared scallop appetizer, the soup of the day (a mushroom reduction with creme fresh), the red wine braised lamb shank, wild mushroom risotto with prawns, twice baked chocolate souffle with espresso whipped cream and the toffee cake. Everything was perfectly cooked, well portioned for the price and style, and tasted amazing. The desserts in particular were outstanding to the point of astonishment, and it was difficult not to order more.
