I love their classic and basic pieces that are both functional and easy to match. My office used to be right upstairs from here years ago, and I would always take a quick stroll after work to peek at what's new. You'll find items on sale on rotation each week, so sometimes I'll catch something I've been eyeing for $10 off. The brand is also price quite well compare to others for the quality you get. HeatTech stuff is amazing during winter to layer, and their summer Airism is great with breathable, thin fabrics for the summer. Now I also love their printed T-shirts. I've been waiting all these years for them to have a Studio Ghibli collab. What are the chances that during the month of my birthday, they had one? Like it's meant to be! By the way, if you sign up for their app, they also offer you a coupon for sign up and $10 off of a purchase of $75 or more near your birthday. They got me... perfect timing as I splurge on some Ghibi / Totoro merch. However, when I was in store all my sizes and some styles are gone so I placed an order online for it instead.

The very first Roots store that I ever set foot into was at Eaton Centre. I don't think that it was…read morelocated where this Roots store is, on the third floor, near Nordstrom, by the escalator. However, it brought back a bunch of memories when I had a bit of time to kill a few Saturdays ago before attending a concert at Massey Hall. I was in grade 8 when I bought two items at Roots. One was a cheerful green sweatshirt with a small Roots logo with the beaver on the front. The other was a lilac t-shirt. It was long, with the Roots Athletic logo on the front. I didn't wear huge logos on my clothing until I got this t-shirt. It was quite the shift. I dropped by this Roots store to check it out. It looks small from the storefront. However, when you walk in, you realize that it has three floors. There is even an elevator to get to to the floor that you want, if you need it. Otherwise, there are stairs. Perhaps reminiscing about beavers was on my mind, but I felt that everything that I picked up at first was beaver-related. I loved the beaver slippers. They felt nice and cozy. I wondered about washing them and whether it would ruin that soft feeling. I then picked up a beaver plushie. It was wearing the cutest Roots hoodie. I've never owned a Roots hoodie. Should I? I have always been a fan of the mitts here. I found a pair that were made of recycled materials. They were cool. I may need to return and get them. To this day, I still have two leather items that have endured over the years. The first is a small black purse that I had all through high school, into university. I haven't used it since, but it still looks great. The other is a brown backpack that I have travelled with between Toronto and Winnipeg. I also don't use it, but it still looks good. The leather has weathered well over time. It was nice stepping into a Roots store. I typically hit outlet stores these days, but it was nice to browse and throw me back to being a Roots fan from years past. It offers classic items, which suit my style. I still want that beaver plushie! (486)

Now this Canadian brand has really exploded, with many styles going viral on the web. The quality of the clothes has noticeably depreciated while the prices steadily increase. But it remains one of the few shops that carries pieces that are small enough to fit me, and embodies the simultaneous sexy and sophisticated look I aspire to. I popped into this Queens st location with a group of ladies, and we rationalized our purchases by telling ourselves it costs less to shop at this brand in Canada than in the US. I wasn't shocked to see most of the items here at this location are medium, small, or X-small. All of that is fine, and I get it. What I don't get is the need for your staff to be so deeply unpleasant and unprofessional. I was with my partner, and we both made attempts to ask for help in finding a size. One staff member kept avoiding me, and even when I made eye contact and asked for help, she kept pretending like she didn't see me. Another one literally looked me up and down, like full read, and smiled and loudly said, "We don't have your size here." I said fair enough and went on my way.
