I love the acai here!! The base doesn't melt really fast like other places I've tried. They have lots of options of toppings & sauces so it's great I came on Wednesday afternoon & the staff was really kind to help me choose items for my order! Thank you!
Roots and rye may be like my new recent obsession. I fear I have gone so much that the guy on Lake just says extra granola right before I even say it and walk in. Anyways it's so so good. I could probably eat this everyday and not get tired of it. The overnight oats, acai, and granola are all just so yummy and it genuinely is the best acai bar with unlimited toppings!
My daughter recommended this place to me. She had açaí bowls with her friend. It's my first time. I ordered a small açaí bowl. The base I chose was overnight oats, young coconut, strawberries, and blueberries. For toppings, I had pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, dried cranberries, and cinnamon. The açaí bowl tastes so good and filling. That was my quick lunch and got energized. The service was prompt and easy.
I went to Roots & Rye yesterday. I got a small acai bowl. The base for my acai bowl included pitaya. The toppings for my acai bowl included a mix of berries, nuts, overnight oats, granola, seeds, beeswax, honey, and peanut butter. I was highly satified with the bowl I had. Every ingredient looked great. I didn't much enjoy the flavor or texture of the overnight oats and the beeswax.
Pretty solid acai spot. I love how customizable the bowls are. Picking and chooses from a plethora of toppings is always great. That way, you can get exactly what you want. There's an abundance of delicious, diverse toppings, which is what makes Roots & Rye stand out. I'm knocking off a star due to the quality of the ingredients. The acai is the frozen, sherbert-like ice-cream type. Not my preference when it comes to acai. And the bananas and strawberries were a little underripe. Still tasty! And I loved being able to add protein powder, peanut butter, and cacao nibs on top. So this is a good, quick acai bowl stop if you're looking for swift service, and customizabilty.
The acai bowls here are so refreshing, and I love all the options. I got a small and you can mix and match the bases. I got Blue Majik, Acai, and chia pudding as the bases. The fruits offered are bananas, strawberries, and blueberries. They also have a good selection of granolas, nut butters, etc to choose from. This is a small shop, definitely a place to pick up your order.
I've had roots & rye plenty of times and they never disappoint! Their acai bowls and smoothies are customizable. The fruits and veggies taste fresh. I typically order the acai smoothie and acai bowl. I like how they offer unlimited toppings and add ons. The store was clean and service was friendly!
My friend introduced me to this spot and no other açaí place can't compare for me. My go to combo for the base is chia pudding and açaí. Top it with blueberries, strawberries, and bananas. This is a straightforward shop. Order and enjoy your açaí outside in the sun. Service is met with a smile and efficiency. Another great combo
I recently have discovered how much I love Acai bowls! So I was excited to try a new spot in Pasadena when I was in the area. Parking here was difficult, this location is located in central Pasadena (near Lake) and every time I am in this area it gives me such high stress and anxiety because the drivers here seemed to be impatient and reckless as they drive in the city. The parking lot behind the row of businesses were packed. This was on a Friday night around 7pm. After 10 mins of circling the area, we finally found a spot. Once we got in, I wondered if they were open. It was dimly lit and really quiet inside. It looked like a ghost town, where there was no one in sight. Maybe I came during an off-peak time? The worker sitting in the way back saw us and came over and helped us with our order. This process was fast and I appreciated that, it was nicely packed with all the toppings and I was excited to try it out! I wished there were more options for fruits; there were only strawberries, bananas, and blueberries (maybe by the time I was there all the other ones were sold out?) My base had the matcha, acai, and chia pudding. I love matcha and this matcha felt like it punched me in the face to let me know they were invited to the party and acai and chia pudding were just there as decoration. I wished there was a better balance between the flavors (maybe I should've asked to try a sample) but not the stores fault. Now I know to probably stick to just the acai base. It was good but it didn't wow me, I don't think I'll go out of the way to come here but if I am by chance then I wouldn't mind stopping in
All I have to say is this place sets my bar high for acai bowls bc everything on it is so fresh and the portions are so generous. Like each small bowl is barely $10 for unlimited toppings. None of that $1 for each extra topping!
Small açaí shop on lake. I like their blue majik flavor (coconut, mango, pineapple, and blue algae(?)) because the texture is smoother than the açaí (which gets kinda icy). Blue majik does melt faster though, fyi. Unlimited toppings. Small bench in front of the store to sit at and people/traffic watch while you eat :)
to be honest the smoothie was ok at best. but what shocked me was how rude the workers were. we were meeting up with my family there and took some time to greet them and it felt like our presence wasn't welcome and felt like they were rushing us to order. when we asked if the first smoothie was ours the guy was like "yeah obviously it's the first to come out" and then one of the workers told us extremely rudely to "go outside and wait for our order" and we told them we haven't gotten all our orders yet and she told us "i'll hand it to you." horrible experience as paying customers who were basically rushed to order, felt unwelcomed, and kicked out

Toppings are unlimited, small size is good enough size to be filling, lots of topping options, açaí base is smooth and not too sweet! Service is good! Only one bench outside to sit at very limited seating! read more
Acaí Bowls are becoming mainstream! Ice Cream, Fresh fruits, nuts, toppings of your choice (whatever available) more nuts, more fruits all packed in... yummy! This is what this place is all about! Love it. Roots & Rye at first I wasn't too sure about, as it's easily missed from the street because the store front is so small, street parking is not always readily available at the front, except walking over from the large parking lots behind the plaza off Del Mar and Lake Avenue. Anyhow, I think Roots & Rye is worthwhile to go aside from the hardships of parking. Their fruits include Jackfruits, Strawberries, Pineapples, Blueberries, Bananas, etc., are usually available. The good thing is they prepare the fruits in front of you. I like how they stack the fruits on top, it's like a puzzle. Lol. My favorite is their Blue Majik Bowl which has strawberries and Pineapples along with your toppings. Or you may choose to customize your own bowl per request. Nice little place but no where to eat except for a bench outside. It's healthy and delicious. Give them a try! read more
This is my new favorite spot for acai bowls in Pasadena! I hadn't realized they'd opened up a new location on Lake Avenue and wish I had sooner! Roots & Rye offers you the option of customizing an acai bowl, toast, or smoothie from a list of high-quality ingredients. This is a creative concept, and it means you'll never run out of options to try! I got an Acai Bowl with the Blue Majik and Overnight Oats bases. You can select up to 2 bases for the bowls and an unlimited number of toppings. I packed mine with strawberries, blueberries, bananas, goji berries, hemp seeds and almond butter. I've never had a Blue Majik base, but this was super tasty and reminded me of a pina colada. The Medium Sized bowl was a good size, and I left feeling full and energized to finish off my day. FYI, the Blue Majik was fairly icy (my friend's Acai base was, too) and not as smooth in texture as you would expect from an acai base. But I enjoyed that since it helped me cool off from the SoCal heat :)) read more
My first Acai bowl EVER and I'm a fan! I found this through fellow yelpers and decided to give it a try because of the high reviews. The store is small; no place to sit other than the small bench outside. We had to wait outdoors for others to finish with their orders inside. I was a bit turned off. But once I got in, the store associates were kind and made suggestions for me when I told them that I'm new. I got a small Acai bowl and LOTS of toppings. I got the Acai, chia pudding, granola, almonds, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, banana, blueberry, strawberry, honey and bee pollen (!!!) for $8. I had no choice but to sit on their small bench. And YUMMMM holy moly this was GOOD!! It was sweet but not too sweet, and refreshing and filling. A great way to start my Saturday morning! The small was a good size for me. The presentation looked beautiful and definitely photo-worthy. Great thing about this place is that there's a lot of combos you can make, so I can keep coming back to try new things. Love Roots & Rye, it is the perfect combo where it is delicious and healthy!! Whenever I need a healthy meal, this is my go-to place! Prices went up by a dollar ($11 for a medium size). There are many bases to choose from (all so delicious, my favs are chia pudding and blue majik and matcha). My favorite butters are classic peanut butter and unique cashew butter!! I just wish nutella was an option. Parking is plenty in the back and I have always had good customer service. They are all friendly. There is no dining, it is purely just to order and go. It's so fresh and a great healthy meal on a hot (or cold) day!! read more

My favorite aspect of this açaí spot is the melted butters, THATS GREAT. The açaí was fine but not the consistency I remember while living in Brasil. I would like it less icy. The dragon fruit was light on flavor, but good none the less. Great toppings to pick from and that made it a solid 4. Service was quick and patient. Delicious açaí bowl! Your choose a size and then basically whatever combination of bases and topping you want. The ingredients were delicious and looked fresh. Esp the blueberries were great quality. I think it was well worth the $14 large size. Parking is easy behind the store. This place is right next to Granville so it's in prime location. The staff was very nice and helpful. They give good serving sizes, not stingy. Awesome place! Definitely recommend! read more

Also, Nice variety of bases (7) and toppings (33) for your customized acai bowls. ALL toppings were of quality ingredients. I really liked that they had chia seed pudding, some places don't have it. And for the nut butters no extra charge. Nice! If Acai isn't your thing, they do have other stuff on the menu: Toast, Smoothies/Shakes, Ice-cream (vegan base). Menu is simple. Employees are very helpful and nice. Parking is at the public metered lot or street parking. read more
It's been heating up in the San Gabriel Valley, so some friends and I decided to come for acai bowls on a Sunday afternoon. When we arrived around 1:30 PM, there were only a couple other people in line. From a price standpoint, their acai bowls are pretty affordable! I paid $9.50 for 12oz yesterday and was able to get 12oz for only $8 here (they don't charge tax but you can leave a tip!) In terms of taste, the acai was pretty standard, and I enjoyed the matcha and chia pudding as well. I wasn't a huge fan of the overnight oats, but it definitely made the bowl quite hearty. One thing to note is that as the bases started to melt, the texture became a bit foamy(?). I felt like the bases also melted pretty quickly in comparison to some other spots I've been to. Overall, I appreciated their variety of toppings and bases, so I'd likely give it another shot if I happen to be in the area. read more
Roots & Rye is my favorite açaí place. The smoothies are so good. However the employees are rude at this location and made the experience terrible. I was being rushed to order and when the girl couldn't hear me she proceeded to raise her voice. I'll start going to the Old Town location instead. read more

Customizable Acai bowls, smoothies and toast! You can add any toppings you like as well multiple different base options for the Acai bowl. I got the Acai and blue majik base which complimented each other well. Only complaint is the blue majik base was a little icy but otherwise everything was As it's located in old Pasadena, parking is mainly street parking. Super easy with the passport app. Cute interior with an IG worthy light sign surrounded by greenery. Seating is limited inside but can easily walk around with your bowl around old town. read more
They have amazing acai bowls for an incredible price. The small is $7 and includes unlimited bases, granola, and toppings. The portion is large enough for a substantial snack or light lunch and I find it to be perfect on a warm Southern California day. Online ordering is available to speed up the process and the staff are super patient and kind. My personal favorite bowl includes a base of matcha, pitaya, and acai, hemp granola, chia pudding, strawberries, blueberries, almond butter, and cocoa nibs. Definitely recommend to anyone in the area and is my favorite acai bowl place in the LA area. read more

Roots and Rye is like a build your own bowl Chipotle but for açaí bowls! You choose the size of your bowl, and then you can mix and match as many bases as possible. Then you can fill up with as many toppings as possible. The flavor of the bases were good and not too sweet. My favorite one was the pitaya and chia pudding. The medium was $9 which is not bad considering all the toppings you can add! There's free parking located behind the store on Del Mar Avenue. read more

It was perfectly balanced for me. I wanted a banana split and instead got a satisfying, crunchy, sweet treat that I can feel good about. Others may find it a bit sweet but I won't change a thing. BASE1: Acai & Dragon fruit LEVEL2: Chia pudding & French vanilla almond granola LEVEL3: Bananas, blueberries & strawberries LEVEL4: Toasted coconut, peanut butter & date syrup NO CASH Accepted!!! People were nice, answered questions and gave suggestions around my allergies. Cool vibe but not a hang out spot. There's NO PLACE TO SIT except a binch outside the door so it's get your's and go. High sneeze guard between customers & toppings that staff spoon for you. Everything neat, separate and wiped down. Did not see droppings of other toppings mixed in. read more

My friends and I were doing a virtual dinner date and we decided to get acai bowls for dinner. I settled for Roots & Rye since it recently opened and has promising reviews. The server was very friendly and provided helpful recommendations. For bases, I wanted to try different ones so I got the acai, matcha green tea, pitaya, and chia pudding. They were all super flavorful in their own way and tasted great together. My favorite was probably the matcha green tea since it was less sweet than the other ones. I didn't want the bowl to taste overly complicated so I just chose fruits (strawberry, banana, blueberries), sunflower butter, goji berries, apple honey, and almonds for toppings. Overall, Roots & Rye is definitely one of the better acai bowl spots out there. I appreicate the variety and topping selections. read more
Can't get enough of this place! I used to be a regular at their Sunset Blvd location, but recently moved to Pasadena and was elated to see Roots & Rye right down the street. The consistency of their acai is sorbet-like, versus the more watery, smoothie texture from some other places. I usually get a size small bowl of acai and blue majik. It's always packed generously and the unlimited toppings are a steal for only $7 a bowl. read more

Over quarantine, I fell in love with acai bowls. There's not many in my area but then I stumbled upon Roots & Rye through a mutual friend's instagram post! I was able to place an order online through their website the night before and the next morning, they had it all ready for me for pickup! This place definitely hits the spot, also just really great pricing on the bowls. Their acai base is not overly sweet and is so refreshing. The chia pudding and overnight oats provide a creamy texture and just goes so well with the acai. I'm usually an adventurous eater but I typically stick to what I know when it comes to acai bowls but I'd love to try their other bases next time. Aside from the typical wide variety of fruits, granolas, and toppings, they also have some interesting nut butters! They have a large parking lot in the back, and you can't miss the place as it's painted a bright yellow orange on the exterior. Due to covid, there's no seating inside or outside but my friend and I walked across the street, where Trader Joe's is and just sat on the steps outside. It's a nice shaded area and there wasn't many people so there was definitely proper social distancing. I'll definitely be back to satisfy my constant craving for acai bowls. read more

Long overdue post for a very well loved spot by me and my bf. I usually get the small bowl here which is plentiful for one person as a quick after workout snack. The açaí and blue majik bases are my favorite; the right amount of sweetness & creaminess. They also have plenty of options in terms of toppings such as a variety of granola, fruits, cacao nibs, butters just to name some. It's a light snack and really healthy too. The best thing is that the toppings are unlimited! read more

Parking & Restrooms - shared parking with other stores, need to park in the back due to limited parking in front because of main street lake plus their is limited parking time each space is different, don't recall seeing a restroom 2. I just got into acai bowls this year and it's pretty interesting all the different flavors out there. Although these can get pricey, I decided to try Roots & Rye because it seemed more "homey" hehe and natural. All the fruits, seeds, and stuff I got were good quality, would probably not add so much next time. My only thing is that I got the blue flavor, acai, and matcha. The blue and the matcha didn't really have any special flavor other than...banana? I believe that must be the base but it was kinda disappointing that it was more for looks than actual flavor. read more

Every time I come here when I leave I promise myself it will be the last time. Give this place another shot today, I order my usual 24 oz ( a.k.a. large açai bowl) . I have noticed they have a new trick that it is to add very thick granola to the bottom or on top of your base so they can give you less of the açaí and more of the other stuff . Me personally I don't really like granola and chia pudding on my bowl , But because of the amount of açai they put in my large bowl I start adding so it doesn't look like I'm getting a small size. If you're getting a size large you expect to have a large amount of what you're paying which is not the case here. Every single time is the same thing, I get more of toppings and add-ons than the actual base of preference in my case is açai. I paid $28 for two bowls and I feel like I'm not getting what is my money worth. Very disappointing I know it's difficult times for everyone but it's just not cool to do this to your paying client. read more
Insanely delicious Acai Bowl. The service is good- they fill my bowl up all the way!! The bowls have unlimited toppings and bases which is insane for the $10 price point. There is no indoor seating since it is a small space but there is a parking lot close to the shop. Would 100% go again. So worth it. read more
