The office girl are quite nice to send "Technician Juan" on site to give me a quote for Hyro Jet sprinker drainage. The job can be done in ONE hours with one man with Hydro jet system to flush sands and debris out of drainage pipe. However, Juan gave me a ridiculous quote for $1800. What a rip off!!! It is more than triple of the other quotes that I had. I had him quickly out of my property, and never go back to this business. My neighbor and I had the same exact problem-- plugged laundry and kitchen sinks-- on the same day. I called Montecito Plumbing and it took no more than an hour of Paul's time to clear the drain. Rooter Solutions is still across the street "fixing" my older and frail neighbor's sinks. They have been there 4 days now and still need to come back next week for more. The yard has been completely dug up. I read them the riot act and a little too quickly, Sean was at my door pleading their case. Mmmmmmmmmmm...every complaint on Yelp sounds the same ! This place is a joke. I used them for an emergency tank less water heater replacement. I was out of town, and had no choice to go with them. It was extremely expensive but I figured there wasn't anything I could do under the circumstances. Now 2 years later my water to my house is not getting hot. I had them come out to check it out only to be told that I needed new valves for the showers. They didn't check the water heater, only took pictures of it. When they priced me at $5K to replace valves, I told them I believe it's price gouging and I will get a 2nd quote. The technician told me that was a good price and I spoke with his manager who told me the same thing. Again I told the technician I was getting another quote he then told me that he had to quote what his manager said but he could do it for me for $3500.00. He was pressuring me to do it and I had to tell him to leave a few times. Don't use this company. It's price gouging for sure! read more

** AVOID THIS COMPANY ** They mail out postcards advertising low $54 drain service. It worked! My daughter called them to fix a simple clogged kitchen sink in her Goleta home. They said the drain was too obstructed and ended up putting a scope into the drain and examining no more than 10' of drain line. They told her there was build-up in the pipe and recommended a hydro-jet cleaning. So a $54 drain clean quickly turned into an $1,875 job! At her request, they did agree to install, free of charge, a new toilet, which my daughter had previously purchased. But while installing that toilet they then told her that she needed to have a clean-out installed in her bathroom! Cha-Ching!! ( That was B.S. there is a clean out no more 3 feet from that toilet near the outside wall of the house. ) They also told her that the pipes under the house are deteriorating and should be replaced at a cost of $10,000 and that serious damage to the house could occur under the slab floor if she did not resolve this issue. At that point my daughter called me to speak with the plumbers. I met the plumber and his supervisor at the house. They explain what they did. I asked if kept any video or photos from the scope showing this "serious problem" that existed prior to the hydro-jet cleaning; they said No, they did not. (We had the drain lines scoped about 8 years ago, when we purchased the house and already had a sense of the condition of the pipes.) I confirmed that their total service, thus far, consisted of an attempted drain cleaning, a scope of the line, a hydro-jet cleaning (which may not really have been needed) and a toilet install, and for that they charged my daughter $1,875 !?? I advised them that they should be totally ashamed of themselves for such outrageous prices and for taking advantage of a young woman trying to get a simple drain problem fixed. The supervisor said, it is not his company and he does not set the prices, but; YES, that is the price, and we stand by it! In fact, he told me that they gave my daughter a discount on that work! (which I find laughable) We declined any further work and sent them away. We called a different plumber that I've done business with before so as to have a brief consultation. My trusted plumber confirmed that my daughter had been totally ripped-off. He said that he typically charges about $150 for a short scope exam and anywhere from $200-$350 for a hydro-jet service depending on how far into the line he needs to go. He said that for him to have performed all the same services he would have likely charged no more than about $450 max. Rooter Solutions advertises a low-price drain cleaning to get in the door, then they will "find more problems" in places that you can't see with your own eyes so as to up-sell and escalate the scope of work as much as possible. They will scare the customer into taking immediate action, then GROSSLY OVER-CHARGE for work that may or may not even need to be performed! In my opinion they are dishonest and cheat their customers. Hard to get a hold of a plumber in SB. I got lucky. I ended up with Rooter Solution because they answered the phone and set up an appointment immediately. My tech was Miguel Campos and he was polite, professional and efficient. He knew his stuff and explained everything along the way and fixed my drain issue. I liked that he made completely sure that there were no issues under the cabinet before he wrapped things up. The best part was that Miguel was ultra tidy and probably left the area cleaner than when he found it. Our issue was upstairs he was careful to make sure he covered his shoes and even wore his mask through the whole repair. This was done just today so I'll update if there is any issues with the repair but it looks good so far. Techs like that make me want to use Rooter Solutions again. Ernesto, 2nd in command, did all the work under the house while Carlos was out buying a few parts which took almost 2 hours. In appox. 3 hours the work was completed. One hour for estimate day prior plus 3 hours to fix next morning = 4 hours at $2300. What plumber gets this kind of money??? I feel totally ripped off but had no choice to get it fixed. I had Rooter Solutions come and clear a blockage. Their TV probe looked normal to me, but they said I had a horrible problem, and it was going to cost $36,000 to fix. Then they came down to $24,000, then $19,000, Then $14,000. And they kept pushing. no interest etc They were going to rip up the bathroom tile floor, but not replace the tile. My mom called this company out to clear the kitchen sink. The removed the p-trap, ran a snake down the drain line for $300. Then Carlos recommended that he jet the lines for an additional $1,000. At which point my 78 year old mom decided to call me. I called and asked to speak to a manager. After 3 different people called me back. TL;DR quoted $1,800 for an issue that my contractor took 15 minutes to fix (and didn't charge me) I reached out regarding a leak from the hot water line exiting my tankless water heater. The leak had started that day as I had some work in my crawlspace and (my assumption) the guy bumped the pipe when he exited. So I figured not a big issue, likely a fitting got loosened and needed to be replaced as the unit was newly installed a few weeks ago. I don't like to mess with plumbing though, and my original plumber that installed it was gone for the weekend, so I called Rooter. Rooter came out within 1 hour of calling, which was great. The first guy was a little hesitant to rip out any dry wall in my water heater closet (even though I said it was fine), so he called his supervisor. The supervisor came and, without looking underneath or behind the drywall, said he'd have to re-pipe the whole thing and it would be $1,800! I told them thanks but no thanks and sent them on their way. Luckily, my original contractor was nearby the following morning and came to take a look. Yep, it was a fitting. He took a hammer and pulled back a 4x4" square of dry wall, hand-sawed the copper pipe, and then put a new fitting on and connected the water heater again. Voila, it is fixed. It took him 15 minutes. Beware as Rooter Ventura gets good reviews but based on the area you are in (we are in Carp) I think they route you to the SB office automatically, as I actually called the Ventura office deliberately. I'll never do that again. 1 star for the attempted robbery. read more

Alex answered when I called and had great customer service and got me an appointment scheduled within minutes. The next morning the plumbers came to snake our kitchen sink drain and after 15 min I was told they were going to need to call their boss to bring in a camera because the snake couldn't get past a certain point. 20 min later the boss shows up with the camera and had us look with him as the camera was run through the pipe. There was water in the pipe and damage which was a concern and we were told we would need to replace the main line. We asked for a quote and the boss went back to his van and came back 5 min later with a note pad with random prices written on it. 3 prices were written that varied greatly (a credit card price, a cash/check price, and then a cash/check given today price).There was no break down of how those numbers were calculated. And again these numbers were just written down in permanent marker on a generic notepad. Honestly the whole in person interaction with them seemed unprofessional. I also felt like they were trying to up sell us the whole time which made me feel on edge. At the end of the day though they didn't charge us for any of the work they did. Very happy with the recent work that Fernando and his crew did for us. What started as a tenaciously blocked toilet turned into a major repair job. All my past plumbers that I tried to call on a Friday were booked for days, but Fernando was able to come right away. We've been having problems with an intermittent blocked pipe for years. After fixing the toilet back-up, Fernando, suspecting a bigger issue, used a remote camera to locate a significant misalignment (yuck!) in the sewer pipe. This was NEVER found in all the times we have had other plumbers temporarily fix the blockage. It required a lot of excavating, and we ended up replacing a good portion of old and corroded pipe that was accessible with excavation/tunneling. Throughout, Fernando was courteous, patient and tidy. Everything was done quickly and when promised, and the price was reasonable for the amount of work that was done. High recommended and will definitely be using Rooter Solutions in the future for all my plumbing needs! read more

Both bathroom sinks clogged, they share a pipe, these "plumbers" charged us $890 and took a full day to open a wall to clear clog. Once the walls were open, plumber claimed his snake was too small to do much and we needed to re-route our plumbing which we were quoted over $10,000. To recap: He went through the trouble of cutting a wall open and did not have the right tool for clearing a slow drain. I told him "Do what you can, we can't really reroute the plumbing right this moment." After two months drains clogged again. Elite Plumbing came out, charged us $140 and took 30 minutes to use a heavy-duty snake, drains are working 100%. I mentioned to this plumber that we were concerned with the age of the pipes, this plumber clearly was not too concerned, and did not attempt to up sell us anything. As much as I want to give Rooter Solutions the benefit of the doubt and call them incompetent to an extreme degree, the bottom line is they are unethical beyond belief. They are salespeople FIRST and plumbers LAST. After talking to some friends, this is nothing new, it is not unusual for them to recommend tens of thousands of dollars of work, when a simple repair is all that is needed. read more

We tried to use the $69 clog removal coupon. The clog was deemed "too difficult" for that price. I was given the option of finding another plumber or "other options". Since we needed the drain to work, I chose "other options" but wish I had not in hindsight. The option recommended and approved by me was to remove the toilet and run a snake for over $150 (I can't remember the price). That did not work and they said it was too clogged for the snake to work. Now the recommendation was to "hydrojet" at $1,300. We tried that and failed again. This time they showed me on a camera that the 3" line was rusted so badly that hydrojetting did not work. They showed me a picture of a 3" pipe that only had an opening about the size of a nickel. They "pinpointed" where the clog was with a cool beeping device. Then they gave me an estimate for $6,800 to tear out a wall and go through the stucco with a new pipe. This did NOT include patching the stucco etc. I though this was getting excessive so I stopped at the $1,300 bill with no results and called another plumber. Now this gets to the interesting part. The new plumber got to the exact spot where rooter solutions pinpointed the "clog" was and we removed about 4' of the pipe and replaced it. The cast iron pipe was in amazingly good condition with a minimal amount of scaling on the bottom of the pipe and not clogged at all. I believe that none of this was necessary and I believe Rooter Solutions must have shown me a doctored picture of the "clog". read more

I am writing with the hope that my information will spare others a very unsatisfying experience with Rooter Solutions. I have a sewer line which occasionally requires rooter routing, nominally at cost of $100 - $150. Last week I was lured by a Rooter Solutions (RS) advertisement to perform routing for a cost of $55. Within minutes, the agent started telling me that there were big problems with the sewer and that he was concerned about doing further damage to the pipe and/or his equipment. He then said he would do a camera inspection at no extra charge. (I feel that the camera inspection was inappropriate and of no value since nothing could be seen due to sewage in the line.) The agent proceeded to give me an estimate of $3400 to fix the "problem." I am very embarrassed to admit that I did not immediately send the agent and his assistant on their way and return to a trusted plumber. I can only rationalize my lapse in judgment by the fact that I was suffering from a medical condition which an hour later Cottage Hospital ER diagnosed as blood clot in my leg. Never-the-less, I am embarrassed to such an extent that I initially could not bring myself to make public my experience. Once the work began, two men in two hours had exposed the clogged pipe (which I believe could have been easily cleared without digging up - as had been done in the past by honest plumbers). They returned a few days later for approximately 1 hour to install a new pipe. This represented a total repair time of approximately 6 man-hours. In retrospect, I can clearly see now that the sales pitch leading to the $3400 was an exceptionally well-structured, well-rehearsed, and well delivered con-artist presentation. I fell for it! The pitch was so superbly practiced and executed that there is little doubt in my mind that others have suffered the same fate with Rooter Solutions. When presented with the bill for $3400, I spoke with the RS Division Manager and requested that he review the situation and adjust the bill appropriately. After doing so, he provided a "discount" of $1000, reducing the bill to $2400. Although at first blush this might appear as a reasonable offer, one must place this in context: * The total man-hours on site was approximately 11 (6 for the pipe replacement, plus 4 for the con-artist sales presentation, plus an additional unrequested hour by the Division Manager to run a camera down the sewer). Thus at $2400, this amounts to $218 / man-hour (or $400 / man-hour for the 6 hr pipe replacement), minus some minor cost for the pipe material. * Perhaps even more disturbing, I believe that there is nothing to suggest that the sewer could not have been successfully routed out by honest plumbers as in the past at a cost of $100 - $150. Anyone considering using Rooter Solutions should be advised of this experience as well as the large number of very similar experiences reported on yelp (particularly under the website supplement "other reviews that are not currently recommended," which appears at the end of the review listing). read more

I'd give zero if I could. While the drain clearing was fine for $54 , but after cheating the sink line said we had a blockage they then called in a second guy and ran a camera and showed us a collapsed main drain line and said waste water was leaching under the slab. Gave us a huge bid to remove and replace, and could start the next business day and "knock out the job". We took other bids and used another plumber. this kind of cast iron failure had had occurred in another part of our house in 2010 and we had replaced the drain line everywhere except the bathrooms, so we figured it was just time to finish the rest of the house. This job entailed completely demoing the whole master bath, which was +25 years old so it was time. Saw cut and jackhammering the floor BUT, once in there was no deterioration of the drain lines in our bathrooms. Not sure if the film they showed us was a recording of another house or what! If you use them for the inexpensive Roto service to clear your lines ok, but then beware and move on. If they claim there's other damage, take the time and relatively small expense to hire an independent camera inspection company to confirm anything. if our bathrooms have been recently redone we would've done the independent camera line but we decided to move ahead. So it's water under the bridge so to speak for us but if you don't want to incur the cost and your bathrooms are in good condition seek out confirming inspection I believe it cost $200+\-. Also, fortunately, our bathrooms are back to back and so they were able to tunnel under the adjoining wall and remove and replace the bad pipes for our second bathroom, bathtub, sink and toilet and tie into the main ABS. We used Coast plumbing out of the Buellton area, they get a +5 for professionalism, and workmanship. read more

This company just attempted to seriously rip me off! I have a very trustworthy plumber that I usually go to for simple fixes but I received a mailer from this company for a $54 clogged drain cleaning. I can't beat that price so I decided to try them out. The guy showed up and was super respectful and seemingly professional as he proceeded to wrestle with my clogged shower drain with a snake. He constantly commented about all the resistance he was running into in the drain and that he wasn't sure if it was going to clear out. he said that if it doesn't clear, they have a procedure where they use some high-pressure machinery that clears everything out and then they go in with a camera to assess what the problem is. Of course this diagnostic procedure only costs $1400 Our house is built on a concrete slab so once they diagnose this so-called problem who knows how many thousands of dollars they will charge you to fix whatever problem they make up because it would involve ripping up our floor. So at this point, I ask him, while he's struggling with his snake, looking completely defeated, how much I owe him and he says just the $54. Then I go look at the ad while he pretends to try for a little bit longer and I see if the clog doesn't drain, I actually don't have to pay the $54. I point this out to him and he instantly changes his tune and agrees that the policy is that if the clog is not cleared, you don't have to pay. Moments before he was happy to take my $54. So later the same day I have my plumber friend come over, and he clears the drain literally in less than five minutes!!! He charges me $100 for which I am happy to pay even though it's a lot of money for such a short visit, but his honesty in this profession is priceless. This company is predatory. They're trying to get inside your door to fabricate problems that allow them to exploit you for thousands of dollars. There should be laws against this!!! I am sure some of their positive reviews that result in a 4.6 star rating are from actual customers that had a good experience from a simple fix. But I guarantee you a lot of high ratings have to be made up reviews. They absolutely tried to scam me. My shower drains as well as any shower in Santa Barbara County right now, and it took my go to plumber less than five minutes. Sean Traylor said if I waited it would cost me more and he insisted cleaning the drains that day because it would cost me more if I waited. Rooter Solutions took advantage of my vulnerability that day because of my status- old age and being a single widow. I compared their price with other plumbers in this area of Santa Maria, Ca like Gold Coast Plumbing Solutions and I found out later when the plumbing service was done, that the going rate for this type of plumbing service I need is between $350 to 400 only.
