Great spot for a beer with the family. Suggest that they post the building's history and the brewery's history on the menu. FYI, from what I could figure it was an old root beer and orange crush bottling facility. They did a great job repurposing the space. The back (beer garden-but couldn't see an outdoor space) was rented out for a kids (?) party, so I didn't see much other than pinball games, air hockey, etc. The variety of beers was good with something for everyone on our group. First of all, I absolutely love how open this place is. And it smelled FANTASTIC the second we walked in. Ambiance is perfect. The waiters/waitresses constantly walked by to see if we needed anything. Never an empty glass. The beers: so. Many. Great. Options. I'm a huge NE IPA and Sours kinda gal. They do not disappoint. Cinnaberry Yum Yum. Amazing. Their Juice in Da haze. Great. My roommate and I agreed they're missing a slight sharpness on the back note, but I was still very very happy with our choices. Even my gf liked the sour. Great feat right there. The food. Our first negative.. my roommate had to pull a hair off her pizza the second it came out but literally pulls it off, shrugs and dives in. "Eh, I'm still gonna eat it." And don't act like you've never gotten food in your own home cooked meals. I cracked up and moved along. The pizza was delish! I looove puttanesca. Have had it on many occasions growing up (ask my why it's called the dish of the whores'') and they hit the mark here very close to expectation! Two thumbs up for flavor however, their crust is sub par. The toppings made it fall to a soppy mess in the center. And the crust was more a stale crispy texture and flavor, not the brick oven style I was hoping for. Eh. Can't have it all. My moo shoo pork tacos were very flavorful, although I would've preferred more heat and slightly less sweet, and maybe grill the corn tortilla for that extra element. But I still really enjoyed them. My gf got the burger well down (I know. Let's not talk about it) and it was surprisingly delicious! (I like mine still mooing, so you can imagine the issue here). THE MAC. The carbonara Mac and cheese deserves its own category. Wow. The pancetta. The asparagus. Just do it. Phenomenal to say the least. Happy we decided to split it. And by that I mean I took it home and finished it myself later on. So. First outing not without a few kinks, but quite successful. Will return after some more exploring of Bridge Street. read more

Great theme and friendly staff but not ideal if you are looking for a quiet spot. The high ceilings and exposed brick make for a noisy atmosphere. Regardless, the fish tacos and half plate of nachos hit the spot. I love how you dont have to get a full tray of the nachos; the half is a much better portion for 3 people. Beer wise they have a little something for everyone. I'm always a sucker for a good triple and theirs hit the spot. Grit was a great pils for a hot day and very drinkable. Overall a fun hip hop themed spot in the heart of Phoenixville. Plenty of games and large tables for groups. It is kid friendly as well. read more

Root Down Brewing is located in beautiful Phoenixville, PA in an up and coming area off of Bridge Street. It is housed in a cool building and sports an industrial feel. The beers were tasty and reasonably priced. The area behind the bar is fenced and exposes their brew facility. It makes for an interesting focal point. The bar area is large and there are community and single tables filling the rest of the front room. In the back people were playing various games. The atmosphere was light and fun. It seemed like a lot of locals were in attendance. I had a flight which is my favorite thing to do when going to a brewery for the first time. I wanted to like this, I really did. The beer was fine, not the best, but decent. The service was so-so, we had a waitress who got us started and then we never saw her again. That's ok you get handed off sometimes. But we ordered some food...and it wasn't particularly good. My kid, who will eat any pizza you put in front of him, didn't care for the pizza. My meal was ok, but nothing special. We got a large pretzel that kind of tied us over, but between the gaps with the wait service and the food, it isn't a place I would be in a hurry to go back to for dinner. If you are looking for just a beer, I'm sure it would be fine, but there are better options in town for a combination of good beer and good food. read more

Delicious beer unfortunately not a good service experience. My husband just got me my fav flavor beer, but we are disappointed because this was our old neighborhood and we drove 25 minutes just to get a beer from this place and one of the bartenders didn't have a good welcoming attitude and seemed in a terrible mood, we know with the COVID situation most of us aren't in good mood but nothing is lost to be kind to their and make them want to come back. This is a great place to go if you are meeting friends. The bonus for this restaurant is that they have delicious vegan options/alternatives. They have a nice beer selection as well and available in multiple sizes. The downside: the food isn't consistent. Sometimes it is over spiced, sometimes it's colder than a lukewarm. I get it since it's Busy and the building is very drafty. Second, it can get very loud. This isn't too bad except when uberly vulgar rap blasts over the speakers. I bring this up because the crowd can have anyone from kids to adults. It's an odd style and weird to hear Snoop sing unfiltered while enjoying a nice night out. read more

Root Down was stop 2 on our informal Phoenixville bar crawl. It's the polar opposite of Curious Castle in terms of ambiance. Curious Castle isn't huge, but the vibe is very polished where Rood Down is grittier and industrial, occupying a re-purposed warehouse. Of the two vibes, I felt a bit more at home at Root Down (maybe because the Beastie Boys song was stuck in my head). I can't give Root Down a full 4 stars because I only took sips of manfriend's flight instead opting for some cider. We did end up getting more food at Root Down, still hungry from our snack at Curious Castle. They have a nice selection of food for every palatte. I ended up going with one of the specials, veggie tacos with a side of cornbread and manfriend got a pulled pork sandwich. If I lived in the area, I could see us becoming regulars here. Decent beer selection and some food - which we did not try. Also there's a gaming station at the back to ameliorate sour date nights. At number 5 in the Phoenixville brewery scene is Root Down Brewing Company. Having just opened on Tuesday, I had to check them out. Myself and two friends made the visit last night and we were impressed! This is a basic brick building on the outside, but the inside really has some prominence! When you first walk in off of Main Street you go through a small entryway. As you open the second door you are overtaken by the sheer size of this building! Huge vaulted ceilings with what look to be original wood beams extend from side to side. Exposed ductwork and steel abound. There is a long bar in front of you to the left that extends nearly the entire wall. The main room has bathrooms, which are cleverly separated from the dining area with a wall and beautiful wood features. Going past the main bar area, down some steps, puts you into the kitchen ordering and another seating area. Again, this building is huge! It reminds me of Bell's one Brewpub in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Very neat building and overall fun ambiance here at Root Down, including former church pews as seating. Noise level was actually average for how many people were there. It is not quiet by any means. But, I was impressed as I could hold a conversation and not have to scream as with most bars or larger breweries. Now for the main reason one comes to visit: The drinks! The beers we tried were all quite tasty. I had their Belgian Wit ("Soul") as well as their Altbier ("3 Legged Rabbit"). Both were very enjoyable beers. My friends also give thumbs up for their beer experiences. For food, I had the Bratwurst with beer braised sour kraut. This includes chips and 3 pickle slices. Presentation was a bit lacking, but the food itself was great! I do not go to a brewery and expect plating to be amazing. It's not a french kitchen! That being said, I finished the bratwurst quite rapidly and was delighted with the flavor. I highly recommend it! My friends had some chips and quac of which they also approved. Their menu and menu hours are listed on their website. They have a Lunch menu, Eats menu and Late Night menu. Make sure to check the hours of each if you are craving a specific culinary treat. Overall, this has quickly become my favorite brewery, even after just one visit. I cannot wait to make the short walk back to visit once again. If you are anywhere near Phoenixville, make sure to check out this spot. You won't be disappointed. read more

They have a dog friendly patio which is amazing since a lot of places in phoenixville are weird about that. I went to some cafe place and they were rude about me bringing him. This is truly as good as it gets! Root Down is my favorite brewery in Phoenixville, and there are definitely a good amount to choose from in the brewery Mecca of the northeast. I love the atmosphere here. They play old kung fu movies at all times, have games in the back, and it's a huge space. It can get busy but it's never crowded because it's really big. The beer is delicious! They have great choices, a huge selection, and the staff are so happy to give a good suggestion. That being said the service is great! They are so nice and quick. The food is cafeteria style, you order at a window and they bring it to you with a number system. I highly suggest the smoked wings and the brisket on a biscuit. They have this insane cheddar jalepeño sauce for one of their apps? I get a side of it with EVERYTHING. Wings? Side of chedapeño. Sandwich? Side of chedapeño. Beer? Side of chedapeño. Dessert? I came here with my brother to meet some friends. I'm not too into beer, so this will mostly be a food review. I did have the Boysenberry F'Root beer though and did enjoy it. The set up inside was great. Big and open, we sat at a table and ordered our beer both from a waitress that was rounding and directly from the bar. Food was ordered from a separate part of the building but could easily be placed on the same tab from the bar. Wings were half off, so I got a dozen in two different flavors - buffalo and Alabama White BBQ. The menu said the wings were smoked, but I didn't appreciate much of a smokey flavor. The buffalo sauce was standard and tasty. The Alabama White BBQ left much to be desired. It wasn't as tangy and flavorful as I've had in the past. I also ordered the soft pretzel sticks which were delicious. The mustard and cheese sauces were perfect. I wish I had ordered more. This place has a decent menu and everyone else I was with (who appreciate beer more than I do) had nothing but good things to say about the beers they had. I was disappointed in the wings, but would be willing to come back here again to try some other things out on their menu. read more

A great surprise! Large seating area, large bar, and great food. They also have a small game area, but the better part is the Cornhole area. But for a brewery, it's pretty great! All the beers were unexpectedly excellent, and they have great ratings beer tasting apps. We only tried their take in poutine, and the portion was small, but quite delicious! The gravy is actually swedish meatball gravy, which makes sense since they have a swedish meatball app. It works! And hey, it's right across the street from a parking lot, which is very helpful in Phoenixville. Overall, this place was an excellent surprise and is definitely worth a shot! read more

Root down is one of my go tos when I want a cool atmosphere and good IPAs. I haven't had a brew I didn't like there. They have a good food selection if you're feeling a little peckish. They also offer take out if you want to continue the party after visiting. One thing to note is that their back area has tons of room for parties. My girlfriend and I shared a flight of four beers, but were able to try a number of others thanks to the chill bartender. Came here for the first time on a Saturday, had plenty of places to sit. Cool interior and had a broad beer selection. There are TVs in the bar area and had old Kung fu movies playing which was actually unique and funny to watch. Took a little bit to get refills but all in all it was a good time. read more
