I saw this place as we were in our way to our worksite. The name caught my eye and it was all I…read morecould think about. We went here for lunch. It's a small place sort of looked like it could have been a fast food restaurant. There was plenty of seating. You could order from the menu or from the hot table (not sure what else to call it). There were two ladies working up front and it took a long time to order. I had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes, green beans, a cornbread muffin and a tea (half sweet/half unsweetened). My colleague had meatloaf, Mac and cheese, green beans, and a biscuit. We each ordered peach cobbler. They serve a lot of food! My colleague said she was going to take some for dinner. Well. . . she ate everything. It must have been really good. I haven't had good fried chicken in a long time and it was delicious. I ate all the green beans and the cornbread. I took the chicken to eat later. The mashed potatoes started out tasting good but then I started to notice an after taste that I didn't like. I didn't eat them. My colleague could not eat the cobbler. I'm not sure what was wrong with it but she tasted it and said she couldn't eat it. I unfortunately never got to eat mine. It sat in the fridge in the hotel and I ended up tossing it before I left. I was a little disappointed. I really was expecting some grits and maybe some greens (not green beans).

We didn't need to add anything to our food and it was perfect. Those were some of the best grits I've ever had in my LIFE. I will make a special trip out of the way for good food, and this is a spot that I'd come to every week if I lived closer. The cooks' hands are blessed, because the way I INHALED that food should be a crime in itself. The decor was cute and festive for the occasion, but all I could concentrate on was that FOOD.

After Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, The Dining Room is the best meal I've eaten this year. Frankly,…read moreit's one of the best meals I've ever had in the state of Georgia. The Dining Room may be in a small town outside of Atlanta, but this place measures up to the heavyweights in the city. The service, decor, attention to detail, mixology, creativity of the dishes, and flavors were all top notch and very well thought out. They offer an a la carte menu or a 3 or 4 course tasting menu. Don't make the mistake I did and order a la carte. Go for the tasting menu. They say that the difference is that the a la carte portions are bigger, but I didn't really find that to be the case. The tasting menu is more of a prix-fixe menu as the portions are pretty close to full-sized if not actually full-sized. I mentioned the mixology earlier, and they really know their stuff in that area. Just asking for a classic cocktail, they asked the questions that most bartenders wouldn't think to ask. They really know their stuff, and I may have picked up a new favorite drink. Considering the full 4-course tasting menu is going for $99 as of this writing it's the most affordable fine dining experience you're going to find anywhere near the Atlanta area.

I found The Dining Room on Yelp (obviously, as every Elite starts before writing a stunning…read morereview). With only a smattering of positive reviews, I was skeptical if this place was the real deal for fine dining in a small town one hour from Atlanta and three hours from Savannah. After clicking around on their website and seeing the work Mad Hospitality Group is doing to revitalize the town, I am a firm believer in all of their ventures, and there is no doubt in my mind that I will return once again! I made a 7:30 pm Saturday dinner reservation at The Dining Room, one night before coming. We arrived shortly after 7:30 to a 3/4 full dining room. One of two waiters, who catered to the entire dining room, greeted us promptly, wished my husband a happy birthday, and asked us which table we preferred. After being seated at a cozy corner table all to ourselves, we both ordered a cocktail and settled in. My Negroni was so smooth, and my husband loved his Tom Collins. After a suggestion to try an "Old Pal" as a spin on a negroni, which I declined, my husband ordered it later on as his second cocktail of the evening. It was a hit, and we're now on the search for a proper bourbon to add to our collection to make at home! The amuse bouche, a take on a Reuben sandwich, served in a hand was the perfect starter to a wonderful meal! I ordered the 4 course meal without wine pairings, while my husband ordered three courses a la carte. I started with the Hamachi crudo with wasabi hummus, chili oil and Fukuoka seasoning was spicy, sweet and rich with flavor! My second course was the smaller version of my husband's first course. It was the almond-crusted fluke with a tomato basil sauce, my husband had lobster chunks in it, and some vegetables on top. The vegetables were perfectly salted and seasoned, the fluke crispy and warm, and the sauce deep with flavor! My third course was veal with a bacon-wrapped Georgia trout, stuffed with collard greens, some side vegetables, and a delicious sauce. I cannot speak enough about the crispy bacon that encased this delicate trout and crisp collards. The vegetables and accompanying sauce were outstanding! The portion size is very large as well! Dessert for both of us was a chocolate and pistachio mille-feuille with pistachio cream and an apricot gelato as a palate cleanser between rich bites of the dessert. My husband came with two birthday candles on his! We had one more small treat to finish the evening, not photographed but delicious nonetheless! Finally, how much did this fine dining event cost us? Well surprisingly, extremely reasonable! Cocktails cost $12, my 4-course meal with 2 small complimentary items to bookend the meal was $99 and my husband's a la carte offerings were $88. For $285 with tip we felt this was the best value fine dining we experienced in years, better than some Michelin meals we've eaten in Italy and Atlanta, and the service being personable, receptive, warm, and unpretentious! The chef personally came out towards the end of the evening and sat with several patrons, and handed my husband his main course. We can't speak highly enough of The Dining Room and how lucky we felt to have only great experiences in Madison! We will come back and try their other businesses and help support Mad Hospitality Group and their efforts to revitalize Madison!
