Service was way off, stuck near back listening to blaring Mexican music from the kitchen, food was just ok, expensive for what it is. Why were we all crammed and seating on the same wall when the restaurant was wide open before 6pm? Won't be going back. read more

We went on the first week and then a couple of times since then. I think things were not as great this time when we did a sit down dinner... Recent reviews complain about the service, but I'll be more precise about exactly our experience. So the bar seems to be very slow. We waited probably 20 mins for our drinks. Also, I didn't enjoy The Crawford. It's supposed to be this mezcal based margarita-like cocktail, but this masala they put on it made it smelly. Yeah, I said smelly. I would not get it next time. On to the food. Out of 4 small plates, they forgot to being out one of them. The kulchas. We realized it first when the big plates all came out. Well, upon the mention, the waitress apologized and made it happen. They didn't charge for it, but we were planning to have it as an appetizer, so that was messed up. Then lastly, I'll say the paneer pinwheel... One of our faves previously, was disappointing this time, because it seemed like the paneer had dried out. It was hard. Again, the waitress comped it, but that's disappointing. The gravy was still great... But the paneer itself... Anyway, so our waitress was really great. Very patient and listened to us if we raised any issues. I think the issues were happening behind the scenes. The kitchen and bar themselves... Look, this is still a 4-star review, which is awesome. The Black Dal they serve is unmatched. Lot of other good stuff. So hopefully they iron out some of these issues and make it happen! I'm rooting for Rooh! read more

The cocktails were very good. Butter chicken was so bad and the naan must have been thawed. Very disappointing.

Very good and very progressive Indian fare. Try the Chile Cheese Kulcha, Paneer Pasanda, and Lamb Shank Nihari. Naan was a little dry and limited. The bill was very large for four of us. Great overall experience in the heart of the West Loop. read more

Maybe the fastest dinner I've had in West Loop--but so good! We had a Thursday night reservation and from being seated to paying and leaving was less than an hour, which felt rare. We shared the sweet potato chaat, dahi ke kebab, tandoori cauliflower, and lamb keema. To drink, I had the Pink City Mocktail (such a good mocktail selection) which was sweet and spicy. Everything tasted fantastic and came out very quickly. Cool interior, too! read more

Yum! Food here is super good. The only issue for me was there were literally 30 minutes between our appetizers and our main courses. Not sure if the kitchen was backed up or they forgot about our mains or what. It was fine as my friend and I were catching up, but I was getting honestly pretty hungry. We split the whole wheat roti, garlic naan, tandoori cauliflower, butter chicken, and avocado pea appetizer. The butter chicken is amazing! It seems basic to get this, but don't skip it if you usually love butter chicken at other places. The tandoori cauliflower was also very good. I'd skip the whole wheat roti, and just go with the garlic naan. It comes with two pieces each. The naan is perfect with the sauces from both dishes. Would definitely be back again but with a party of 3-5 people so I can try more dishes! read more

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday celebration. We had made a reservation but we ended up reaching the city a little early so we decided to start with some drinks at the bar. The bartenders were super friendly and great at providing recommendations for drinks. As a mixologist myself, I was looking forward to seeing how they incorporated Indian ingredients in their cocktails, I think the flavors could've been a bit more vibrant but they were great drinks. If you are looking for a more intimate experience I would recommend requesting to be seated upstairs, from what we saw, the downstairs was pretty congested. The upstairs lounge was adorned with blue velvet furniture and dim lighting. The only thing that conflicts with the ambiance was the blasting music. The music selection was great however it was way too loud and I found that it was not fitting for the type of clientele they have we even asked for it to be turned down but they were unable to even with in infant sitting at the table next to us. My family has had an Indian restaurant for 23 years so I am very passionate about Indian cuisine. For appetizers, we had the Tillamook cheddar Kulcha which was an amazing innovation and we had avocado chickpea bhel which was decent but I would recommend ordering chutneys with it. Chutneys are commonly paired with appetizers but here they charge for it. For the main course, we had garlic naan, Tandoori Cauliflower curry, Paneer Pasanda, and Rooh Dal. The garlic naan was delicious but the portions are too small, we needed about 4-5 naans for two people. The Tandoori Cauliflower stole the show and I cannot say enough praise for the dish. The paneer pasanda was also great, I loved the spice marination on the paneer. The rooh dal had far too much cream taking away from the vibrant flavors I was hoping to find. We ended the night with some chai and rose thandai ice cream. The chai was one of the best chai's I've ever had. The ice cream didn't speak out to me and could've been skipped. I bought a six-pack of Indian beer for my family to try out which ended up being $76 which is beyond an upcharge. I checked with the Chicago-based beer company and you could get a 4-pack for $14. There are certain things about the restaurant that gave me the vibes that it was more for profit rather than for creating an enjoyable experience. To me, this takes away from the relationship a restaurant should foster with its customers. All in all, I had a great time here. As with any restaurant you try out, there are things you like and things you don't and ways they can improve. I will be coming back for certain dishes, wishing Rooh continued success! read more

My family and I were very, very excited to try Rooh, but were extremely disappointed with the overall experience: food, service, and ambience. We tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but so much went wrong! CONS - First, we made a reservation for 5 people a couple weeks in advance. Two days before, got a notification that reservation was only for 2 people. I must have tried calling 4 different numbers, during restaurant hours, two different nights, and never was able to get ahold of anyone. Finally just texted a number and hoped someone would get back to me, which they did. But should it really be this difficult to make contact with the restaurant to confirm my reservations? - The overall vibe of the staff was very unenthusiastic and low-key rude. The host was not friendly or inviting. The waiter was awful! He did not welcome us to the restaurant, he did not ask us how we enjoyed our food. When asking for the more popular dishes, he ran through the list so quickly, I couldn't understand one thing he said. Additionally, he disappeared at some point in the evening, leaving us wondering who to order with... - We first ordered drinks and maybe 15-20 minutes later ordered appetizers. The apps came out first. An apology was made, but still something to note... - It was a pretty chilly evening. For some reason, our heater was the only one that appeared to be broken or not on. We had to ask for the heater to be turned on. A restaurant that claims to be this nice, just felt like these things should be considered before the customer has a chance to request it. - Food: The avocado and green chickpea bel was very under salted and/or minimally flavored. The chili cheese kulcha tasted like a quesadilla I could make drunk at home at 2 in the morning. We absolutely could not tell the difference between the roti and garlic naan. The Andhra chicken pepper fry was well flavored, but very spicy for the average consumer. We spent $34 on the lamb shank nihari only to leave half of it uneaten. - My cousin said this was the first time in his life he did not like a beer at a restaurant. He wanted an IPA; ordered the 'Indian Pale Ale', as listed on the menu; however, the Indian Pale Ale was not an IPA at all. My cousin ordered it, drank some, then commented to the waiter that it didn't taste like an IPA. The waiter said 'oh yeah none of the beers on the menu taste like traditional IPA's'. Very misleading on the menu. And shouldn't the waiter have clarified that this would be different from what a customer asking for an IPA would be expecting? - Obviously we understand that we're in covid times so the ambience may not be as originally intended. But the ambience of Rooh (tent seating, quality of table/chairs, fake candles) is not what we expected for a Michelin mentioned restaurant. PROS - The staff that delivered our food, Arturo, was great! He was welcoming, inviting, made jokes, actually had a smile on his face. - Drinks were overall average, but the old-fashioned's were great! - The Rooh Dal was really good! - Everything was covid-friendly *Of note, we are Indian so maybe our expectations of the food were different. However, good food is good food, and that's not what we experienced at Rooh. read more

The service , atmosphere and the food was excellent! We had a great server that gave spot-on recommendations. The star of the night was the sea bass - it was amazing! If you like fish at all - I *highly* recommend it. Also - the Rooh Dal (black lentils cooked for 10 hours with tomatoes ) depth of flavor was fantastic and went very well with our dishes. If you enjoy Indian cuisine - try this place out - you'll enjoy it! read more

5 of us went for a special dinner reserved in the hexadome patio tent. These from the menu stand out: Hyderabad tonic Kashmiri kahwa (best cocktail) Nagpur Narangi (mocktail) Chilli cheese kulcha Sweet potato chaat Jackfruit cutlet with Madras curry mayo (unique and the best dish) Paneer pasanda with saffron rice Overall our experience was wonderful and we had a great time. Rooh serves delicately balanced Indian flavors, it's a must try in Chicago! Austin took good care of us and spiced up our evening with a round of tequila shots on the house! read more

All I can really say is wow. Service: we had Amy Rose as a server and let me just say she made the whole experience. Not only did she give us great recommendations, she was also so nice and attentive. Whoever is the manager/owner really needs to highlight your employees especially Amy for all that they do. They are the reason myself and my party will definitely be coming back! Food: anything you get here is amazing, however, I'll break it all down for you Small Plates: Chili Cheese Bread: 4/5 - this is good app to start. It is a bit spicy with the shishito pepper, so be careful if you don't like spice. Pork Bell: 5/5 - this was AMAZING. Very tender and spiced so well. Pepper Fry Chicken: 5/5 - this was something we weren't sure if we were going to order but am so glad we did. It was fried to such perfection and was still so moist on the inside. Large Plates: Tandoori Cauliflower: 5/5 - this was by far my favorite dish of the night. The cauliflower was cooked so well with just the right along of char and spice. I couldn't literally eat this everyday! Butter chicken: 4/5 - this was good! The chicken was very flavorful, however, was a bit heavy. Paneer: 5/5 - this is also really really good! The amount of flavor they got into this was amazing, along with the sauce it's paired with! Drinks: Pink City with Tequila added: 5/5 - WARNING - this is spicy!! However, it was DELICIOUS! Great starter drink! Scotch (I forget the actual name) 5/5 - this was also so so good! I had this as my second drink for the rest of the night! (Plus, look at how cute the cup is!) Overall, we had SUCH a great dinner at Rooh and we will definitely be coming back! read more

Went here first the first time as this place was highly recommended by a friend. I found the service to be very fast and the food to be flavorful and with a good kick. I got the butter chicken, rice and garlic naan. My friend ordered the Masala fries which were perfectly cooked and so crisp. I had to stop my self from eating all of hers. The naan was just ok, I've definitely had much better. You only get two small pieces for $5. The level of spice in the butter chicken was just enough for me but if you are someone who really loves spicy food you might want to ask them to make it a but more spicy. One less star because the large plates at least were over priced for what they were. I feel it should at least come with rice if I'm paying 28 dollars for some chicken in sauce. I really appreciate that they offer their regular dinner menu all day on Sundays but feel that maybe they should have lunch prices in order to make it a place I'd go more frequently rather than just for a special occasion! Anyways, I mostly saw families and large groups outside. I can imagine if you go later in the day or sit inside it would make a good place for a date! read more

Excited for the concept bug underwhelmed by the execution. The best food items were the traditional ones like peas kulcha and dal makhni. The chhole was too bland. The creative fusion items like green beans and jackfruit cutlet fell flat. I do want to call out the amazing dal makhni that reminded me of Bombay Club in D.C. IYKYK. read more

If you're in Chicago, you must come here. This place was one of the most delicious places I have ever eaten at. Great drinks, delicious food, and great dessert. The pork belly is so tender and flavorful, the cauliflower tandoori was spicy but enjoyable and perfectly cooked. Our favorite was the lamb shank, so tender and slid right off the bone. Everything was so rich in flavor and went together so well. The drinks were unique, flavorful, and all packed a good punch. The ambience was great, cool music, and really nice decor. Our server was very attentive, nice, and helpful with giving recommendations. Going to try and squeeze one more visit here before returning to LA. Definitely recommend this place. read more

Rooh is an upscale, modern take on Indian cuisine. You'll find interesting riffs on classic dishes using untraditional ingredients or preparations. The paneer pasanda and lamb shank nihari are examples of dishes you would expect from Indian cuisine, but Rooh finds subtle ways to tweak the recipes. These slight alterations make the dishes more approachable to an audience that may be unfamiliar with Indian food, while also providing a fresh take for people that are familiar. However, there are certain items on the menu where I thought the experimentation of tried-and-true recipes fell a bit short. For example, the avocado raita was a bit too sweet (especially when most of the menu is not super spicy). The chunks of avocado also did not mesh with the consistency you'd expect from a raita. Nonetheless, I do appreciate that Rooh is willing to try something new and innovate. I'd be remiss to not highlight the best item on the menu - the chili cheese kulcha. Usually I would not expect to eat a kulcha on its own as an appetizer, but this was just so cheesy, flavorful and decadent that it stands on its own. Overall, I recommend checking Rooh out. Whether you are new to Indian cuisine, or want to try a new take on familiar items, there's something on the menu for you. read more

Rooh is a gorgeous inviting space with festive cocktails and mocktails plus plenty of vegan/vegetarian options on the menu. I love any place that makes it easy and calls out with total transparency which items are vegan so you don't have to ask. It's a progressive indian restaurant and everything we ate was yummy. So many options plus lots of meat for those so inclined. We started with cocktails - old fashioned and a cucumber Mocktail. Lots of restaurants are stepping up their mocktail game and it's nice to see that Rooh is on board. We then had avocado and chickpea Bhel with apple and potatoes. Such a new combination for us but it all works together and tastes super fresh. The sweet potato chat was crispy and delicious. We enjoyed the cauliflower tandoori. The sauce was so complex I found myself dipping the roti to get more. read more

Overall, food was super tasty but service was really slow. There wad a full house but we waited about an hour between our app and our mains. Not sure if we slipped through the crack but other than that wait, the experience and food were good. Chili cheese kulcha came out pretty quickly and was really good! Good amount of heat. The sweet potato chaat was my favorite of the night. Lots of different textures and sweet notes - in my opinion the most unique/complex dish (that was delicious of course!) we tried. Both mains were great - the sauce was smooth, flavorful and pretty delicate, didn't feel heavy though it was definitely rich. The butter chicken was super tender and moist, the paneer absolutely perfect. Soft, creamy, very different and much better than other paneers I've had! You have to get rice and naan a la carte FYI but they're reasonably priced. All in all, great food, service could have been a little more attentive but I'll chalk it up to a busy night and will be back :) read more

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! The food, service & presentation was everything & more! For an upscale Indian restaurant, the food tasted authentic. They had some dishes with a twist which were yummy to try! Big fan of the Lamb Keema & Butter chicken. It tasted almost like my moms cooking. We ate entirely vegetarian and it was amazing- I do agree that this has a more American spin on Indian food but that is in their description. See below for my individual food reviews: Chili cheese kulcha- 3/5- it was spicy and cheese- think grilled cheese but with naan. It was good but the flavor was nothing special. If you want something simple- good dish but not my favorite of the night Sweet potato chaat- 5/5 - the textures and flavors were amazing! The kale was fried to perfection- not your typical salad but amazing! Paneer pasanda- 5/5- I would eat a bowl of the sauce daily- it was so good and the paneer was perfection. A great alternative to meat Chutney- we tried the mint and cilantro and tomatillo and green mango- they were so good and different. The mango one had a small kick of spice but was excellent and they both went great on the naan and paneer dish! Would recommend to try!!!! Yum! read more

I'm of Indian descent and don't usually like Indian food. That being said, I liked this contemporary fusion food and the people I went with liked it to! Me and my friend split the butternut squash on millet and sweet potato chaat - both vegan versions. I was partial to the chaat because sweet potato and kale are two of my favorites. I would say the butternut squash was a little stringy? But like flavorful and that's not on the restaurant and more on the specific squash. We patio dined within the bubble during the polar vortex. All things considered, we didn't freeze which is SUPER telling on the quality of the heat lamps! They really did their best during covid and with the current weather in chicago which I appreciate. read more

I went here before the pandemic.. Food: we ordered the avocado and edemame papdi chaat appetizer, Kerala style full sea bass (wrapped in banana leaf), jackfruit cutlet, lamb kheema and phirni mousse. Everything tasted very good but nothing blew me away. Drinks: great! I liked that they had the wheel which explained the drinks and how they were curated. Service: great! Quick, polite and the waiter was able to answer all our questions. While the experience was good, I think it'll be a while for me to back to Rooh. Coming from a city like Mumbai, where Indian fusion is mastered, Rooh didn't quite live up to ALL the hype for me personally. However, it's a great start in bringing fine Indian cuisine on the world map! read more

I've been to ROOH before for restaurant week, but decided to come here to try the full menu. We showed up a little late but we were seated fairly quickly. We sat outside in the tent which I preferred since the weather is still nice! We ordered drinks and I got the pink city cocktail, which was delicious. To start, we ordered the avocado and chickpea bhel and the sweet potato chaat. I thought that the bhel was okay but the sweet potato chaat was amazing! I cannot stress this enough. I think if this was a main entree I would order this by itself lol. For our next course, we ordered the butter chicken (duh), lamb shank nihari, and tandoori cauliflower. All three dishes were amazing but I particularly loved the butter chicken and cauliflower. Something about their butter chicken is just so damn good!! We got sides of garlic naan and basmati rice as well since the dishes don't come with anything. For dessert, we ordered the milk tea ice cream (it's basically kulfhi for my fellow Indian food lovers) and the mango sorbet. Both were amazing and such a nice way to wrap up our dinner. Overall, I love Indian food and ROOH does a great job paying homage to traditional dishes while putting their contemporary twist on it. I do wish that service was a bit better. It seems like they may be understaffed since our waitress was covering the majority of the tables in the tent and it wasn't always easy to get her attention. Service is the only reason I'm taking a star off. It's pricey (as most fine dining is) but worth it in my opinion. I'll definitely be back! Fantastic food and service. I loved the prawn dish and all of the appetizers. My second time here and would do it again.

Got delivery through DoorDash and was extremely disappointed. Got the Paneer Pasanda Dinner Avocado Green Chickpea Chaat - 2/5. Gravy is the main flavor but rather basic. Slight kick of spice. Avocado largely lost. Paneer Makhani - 1/5. My wife loves paneer dishes and couldn't eat it. The texture of the paneer was like a strange tofu. The makhani sauce itself felt out of a can. Vermicelli Payssam - 1/5. Couldn't finish. Odd milky texture. Garlic Naan - 3/5. Solid naan, good level of crisp. read more

ROOH is a progressive Indian restaurant in Chicago located in the West Loop. Rooh Chicago features traditional cuisine from India but with a modern, progressive twist. Plated with a fancy twist, Rooh's menu features a total of around 34 dishes with seasonally available ingredients. I have been to ROOH twice now and I loved it both times. First, I LOVE the ambiance in the upstairs dining area, it has a nice living room home feel to it. The first time I was here was back in October of 2019 for my birthday dinner. There are a few menu items that I wish that were still on the menu! Their cocktail menu is elaborate! They do such a good job capturing the flavors of Southeast Asia. Their cocktail menu is Ayurveda inspired. I think their entire cocktail menu is worth trying, I haven't had a bad drink here. Both were great, and I heard really good things about the chocolate mousse dessert. I was expecting the food to be good, but I was really blown away. The flavors and the seasoning here are truly unparalleled. The service is also great. The waiter checked on often, plates and new silverware were cleared/placed quickly. What an amazing restaurant! Went here for my wife's birthday and it was OUTSTANDING! Our waitress was perfect and attentive. The chili cheese kulcha and both chutneys were absolutely devine. The prawns and chicken were both cooked to perfection and the FLAVOR, you eat Indian food because they don't skimp on the flavor and ROOH cranks it up to 11. And just when we thought the meal couldn't get any better, desserts came. The saffron cheesecake was probably the best we've ever had. The texture on it was amazing. Not pictured is the mango sorbet because thst was inhaled after we first tasted it. We cannot wait to go back, and cannot recommend it enough. read more

Delicious food, excellent service from start to finish. It's a rare cuisine to be in Chicago. We are glad Rooh opened here finally. Have been tried out SF and Palo Alto Silicon Valley locations, each one is beautiful and unique in its own way. I spent a good 20 minutes to admire these art works alone! Everywhere I turn it's something new, exciting and colorful for me to gaze upon. Never a dull second here, especially for your camera and endless selfie spots! Loving the art works through out the place, this Chicago location is bigger, 2 levels, and an outdoor dining area too. The food was delicious. If you are a vegetarian, you are in for a treat here. The food oversee by chef Sujan Sarkar from London, Dubai, Delhi, Mumbai, San Francisco, NYC, now here. Locally runs by talented chef Sahil Sethi. Every dish is a a surprise in taste, texture and well-balanced. Each dish elevates to the next one, leave you wanting for more and more of it. That Jackfruit dish was beautifully done right. The Scallop was sliced, I have never had it done this way before. The classic Buttered Chicken is so wats a must! The fresh shaved truffle on naan was simply perfect! Save room for dessert because it's another level by itself. Make sure you try the equally impressive handcrafted cocktails too. Check out the private car upstairs. It's swag, inviting and so charming this whole place. Chicagoans, I know you are not use to Indian cuisine, please come with an opened-mind and I'm sure you will leave happier and glad that you try something new! read more

Came here during a trip to Chicago. Visited here with 2 friends and started with the lamb keema, which came with buttery brioche bread that was perfectly toasted. I really enjoyed this dish! We then shared the butter chicken and sea bass, along with 3 pieces of garlic naan, as our entree. The butter chicken was made very well - very tender and flavorful. The naan complemented the chicken very nicely. The sea bass was less impressive, as I thought the flavors were one-dimensional. It was also overpriced ($60s), but the saffron rice that accompanied was spot-on. Service was friendly and professional. Their ambiance is lovely - clean, elegant, with a touch of Indian flavor that is not overdone. read more

The waitress was amazing and so sweet. The food was ok. NO WAY SHOULD IT BE RELATED TO THE BRAND "Michelin"!!!! However the owners are abusing customers with a snuck in hidden 4% surcharge at the last minute as you're about to pay, saying it's because of inflation!!! If so, why are the prices not reflecting that? Do we walk into grocery store, get to the check out and as we are about to pay the cashier spins is that line? And it is disgusting that the poor customer facing staff are made to have to explain this ridiculous and unethical story to the customers by the owners. I feel so sorry for the staff here.
