I went on Yelp and looked for top rated locksmiths; I narrowed my search down to 3 and sent out a message asking for rates, etc. Ronsmith was the first to answer and the other two followed suit. Even though the other two replied to several follow up questions that I had, Ronsmith was always a few seconds or a minute or two away from replying. Very detailed and upfront. Even though his labor rate was higher than the other two, he was persistent in his follow up (in a nice way, not pushy) so I decided to hire him. Set an appointment for next day, at 10am. At 9:20am, he called me to let me know that he would be 15' early and would that be ok. He arrived, promptly, at 9:45am; he gave me an honest appraisal of the issue, was flexible with his pricing and he upsold me on installing a new set and he was done 45' later. He arrived to my house on time, was able to come same day (about an hour and a half after I called) he rekeyed 7 locks, made 6 copies of keys, helped me reset the code to the front door lock, and helped me reprogram my garage door code as well as the handheld openers all in less than 2 hours. $1, 095 for two new locks and rekeying the locks. We said we didn't want new locks on the metal gates in front of the house because we are having those gates removed, and we felt coerced into installing them after he went out and purchased the additional locks (we didn't ask for), which he could have and should have returned as soon as we expressed we didn't want that. We only wanted the antique front door hardware replaced. Because the original locks were vintage, we're now stuck with this weird metal plate that has to be painted. I'm not sure there was any other way to do this. It looks pretty crappy, though, to be honest. The one thing that really bothers me is I wish he had quoted us before he started drilling holes in the door instead of sticking us with a bill this high for a job we don't particularly like and a gate lock we didn't even want. Maybe that's our bad. If you go through the reviews, you'll see this is a significant jump in pricing over the last two years. If you need something simple done, I'm sure he's fine. read more

Only giving 3 stars due to some confusion, the tech was able to cut us a new key however wasn't a key fob which I thought we were getting, like how he describe.
