It offers a small, but quaint casino that is lucky to have a Smoking/Non-Smoking section, based on your tobacco needs. TLDR version: First impressions: I was nervous when we pulled up at 5:00 pm on a Saturday night and there were only four cars parked anywhere near this restaurant, which is located in a strip mall. A few other customers arrived after us, but it was not nearly as busy as I expected it to be. There was no wait, and we were seated immediately in a booth in their large dining room. I'm used to paying before eating at a buffet, but this place doesn't charge until you're ready to leave. Subtotal for 3 of us (two waters and one soda) was $49, so about $15/person. First, the good: We had a very friendly server who was very attentive with refills and clearing plates. She asked multiple times if we were doing okay or if we needed anything. We tipped well because of the excellent service. Now the bad: I walked around the buffet tables before deciding what to try. The salad bar was disappointing because it only had iceberg lettuce, not even romaine, just a chopped up head of lettuce. There was an assortment of fried chicken: sesame, orange, sweet-n-sour, etc. There was a roast in a pan with a large knife laying next to it, which you were expected to slice yourself. There was a pan of fried rice, green beans, and crab rangoon. There was no steamed rice available. A small selection of sushi was at a large station along the wall. The same station had what appeared to be ingredients for a fresh stir fry: raw chicken in a bowl, along with an assortment of raw vegetables, but the flattop grill next to it was off, and it didn't appear that anything was going to be cooked anytime soon. We were there an hour, and all of that food, including the raw chicken, just sat there. There was an enormous selection of desserts. In fact, there were more desserts than anything else. A huge table was filled with an assortment of fruits, puddings, and gelatins. Another table was filled with an assortment of cookies and petite cakes. There was also a large assortment of ice cream in a deep freezer. You were expected to dip it yourself with provided scoops, which were sitting in a tiny sink well with a trickle of water running over them. I tried some of the various chicken, most of which was cold. A couple of sweet-n-sour chicken pieces were warm, but a third piece was so fatty I could not finish eating it. I tried a couple pieces of sushi, which were just okay. I ended up eating mostly fruit: strawberry-glazed bananas, apricots, some peaches, and a few pieces of broccoli. Restrooms: The women's restroom was clean; however, they have no paper towels. They have hand dryers, but the sinks are not automated, so most people are probably using their dirty hands to turn the knobs on the faucets and then touching them again to turn them off. (I used my elbow, and I used my shirt's hem to open the door.) Overall, I would not want to go there again. I would suggest they make various improvements, and they could even raise their prices a little bit to compensate. And "is there a menu or just the buffet?" We quickly learned you pay first and everyone gets the buffet even though there is a menu. Second, while the hours on the door say the restaurant closes at 9 pm, the restaurant actually closes at 8 pm. We didn't know this when we entered around 7:20. At 8 pm the staff person mentioned earlier walked around asking diners if they were done. When everyone said yes they started putting everything away. I went to grab a last piece of dessert but discovered the staff person had just stacked all the remaining dessert to take back to the kitchen and when she saw me she had a look of "what the hell do you think you're doing?" My co-star and I sampled the inviting salad bar, and he opted for the broiled steak covered in mushrooms. I had the shrimp scampi, which was spectacular and enough for two normal people. Our only disappointment was that the highly touted bread pudding had been exhausted. Hence, we settled our stomachs on the chocolate lava conflagration that helped put things into perspective. The ambiance was an interesting mix of nostalgia and packing plant apparatus. Being a vegetarian, I wasn't offended by what happened there since 1912. The still-active railroad station is just across the street, which made sense for the building's original purpose. Our server was a local historian who enhanced our visit with her perspectives. Yes, the HOJO where I stayed in 1986 is long gone, but the Packinghouse is still doing what it does best. I must also mention that downtown Galesburg is an inviting anachronism reflecting the old America that I grew up with. There are interesting stores and other attractions. Galesburg is also home to Knox College, and was the venue for one of the Lincoln-Douglas debates back when debates were really debates and not Kabuki Dances.

They also offered some unique and tasty items, such as fried zucchini slices. They also had tubs of creamy and yummy ice cream for dessert. We rate the quality of the food that we ate as 4.5/5.0. However, by 7 pm, the restaurant was already winding down and many of the food trays were already near empty and weren't being replenished so there were many food offerings that we didn't get the chance to try. Our rating for variety is thus only 2/5. Service was okay (3/5). The waitress brought us our requested waters, and checked in once to see if everything was okay. The overall ambiance was of a typical Chinese buffet restaurant, and was maintained well. The restaurant and restrooms were clean. However, staff started to wind down the day at 8 pm, including mopping the floors of the main buffet area, the check-out counter, and restrooms while we were still eating and needing to walk in those areas! It was an hour to closing time! Finally, the restaurant was a good value for all-you-can-eat for $12.99/person at dinner, before tax and tip. We would return but probably earlier in the day to have full access to the variety of food choices and to ensure that we didn't interfere with the cleaning at closing.
