I used them for bookkeeping services not tax work, but their practices could be the same there. I fully explained the scope of the work they would be doing, showing them what the last bookkeepers had been doing. Their price was comparable to other quotes I had received and what I had been paying. After doing the bookkeeping for the agreed period with much grumbling, they wanted to DOUBLE the rate they quoted me, so I had to go through all the head ache of moving my business somewhere else. Also, at the end,the staff would say one thing about the billing and then, the billing department would bill me at their outrageous rates (for bookkeeping). Their work is not impressive either. For months the financials were late and filled with errors, employees paid out of the wrong company, many erroneous expenses that were not on the bank statement,etc. Ultimately after hours of my time finding the errors they fixed them. I guess they just thought I would roll over and pay them double what they quoted me and when I held them to their agreement for the specified time period, they just slapped the financials together. Altogether a terrible experience that hopefully others can avoid.

They ended up charging us EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS more than the estimate. Some charges were not part of the estimate, but Jim claimed they were. For example, he charged us for the time it took his crew to go from his warehouse to my abode, and said this was part of his estimate (it wasn't). Now, maybe this is common in the moving industry, but in what other profession do people charge customers for time they aren't actually on the job, but merely en route to it? I don't mind estimates being off a bit, but this is excessive. I will never use them again, and suggest you avoid them, too.

Second time using J&M…read more I called J&M and reserved a crew and truck for a day to move my big and bulky items. Mike and Chris showed up on time with all the pieces necessary to move my stuff. The guys were fantastic - took tremendous care of my property - wrapping everything in nice/heavy moving blankets - and then carefully got it out of the house, into their truck, and then into the new house. They worked carefully, but also quickly - I felt that they wasted zero time - they even made it to the new house in good time - especially considering they were driving a loaded moving truck! Not a dent or scratch on anything - and my back is in better condition than it would have been had I asked friends to help and rented a moving truck to try to save a buck... I will definitely use these guys again!
