After buying 4 rifles from this business via gunbroker they refuse to respond after misstating the chamber of a combination gun (6.5x58r, not 6.5x68). The person I dealt with was very curt. I've bought many guns here over the years. I've traded more expensive guns for much cheaper guns due to my own ignorance. That's nobody's fault but mine. The last time I went in, I purchased a hunting rifle. I spoke to a couple employees before I decided on this particular item. After I bought it, I shot a few rounds at Calibers. It misfed every other shot. I took it back and told them. They shot it downstairs and told me it was fine. I recently looked up the model online, and it's known for this issue. I purchased a firearm from this store back in November. When going through I did have to wait for my background check to come through. That was fine. I put the gun on layaway and bought it in full once I was approved. What bothers me is the salesman moving me along told me the gun was cleaned before I bought it. That wasn't the case. A quick youtube tutorial of how to clean the gun-which was not explained to me in store-I found the barrel, firing pin, everything dirty. Now we all should inspect our weapons no matter the case, I just didn't appreciate being told it was clean. Again I checked and fixed the situation myself, but had I known I wouldn't paid the price I did for a gun that had been fired at least 500 hundred times with no cleaning. Now to the credit for the salesman, maybe he wasn't fully aware of that, but should be. The gun did come with a casing of a test fire, that bullet was clean, and that bothered me. Because how I came to open the gun myself and clean it was while at a firing range. I noticed the bullet casings were really dirty. Also, last but not least is another issue, mostly pertaining to New Mexico law. Pawn shops, and other re-sellers of previously owned items can be subject to checking if the gun is reported stolen before selling it. Businesses such as Ron Peterson firearms-as I've been told by another pawn shop-ARE NOT held to this same standard. I learned this from a pawn shop I tried to sell my gun at. Now mine did not come up stolen when I had police check it, but it's something to consider. Otherwise it was an ok experience and wasn't bad. read more

This is hands down the most legitimate gun store I have ever been in. I have sent multiple people to this establishment with arm loads of firearms from an estate. This situation is ripe for some profit to a normal gun store who would try to use the situation to their advantage. In every case Ron Peterson firearms gave them a fair price on every single item they bought. I have bought and sold firearms with Ron Peterson for at least 30 years. Never have I been sold a defective firearm or anything that has been misrepresented. In fact they are the best place to get a firearm identified and appraised. Very few folks will I trust to work on my firearms. Ron Peterson firearms is one of them. I will miss the store but understand that the times are changing and one must either keep up or be left behind. They also had their building rammed with a vehicle to steal guns. Butchs reloading went by by because of the same foolishness. I have waited while the staff helps another customer and when I asked for help with an item they responded when it was my turn. If you think this place is bad go over to sportsman's or cabelas and wait 3 hours to shop for a rifle. In my opinion Ron Peterson firearms is the best Gun store around. read more

I had my first experience at Ron's shop yesterday, I sold one gun and purchased another, I had researched the value of the gun that I sold them and they offered me a fair price. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable in helping me find a different caliber of rifle for my needs. They do have a good selection of used hunting rifles. Today's visit was the usual mixed bag experienced. I went in to purchase a carbine and some 30-40 Krag ammunition. The service was great, though they overcharged by $20 over the agreed upon price for the 22lr carbine (I didn't notice until I got home). They also didn't fire the gun onsite, which they have always done for me before when I've bought used firearms from them. I've come to the conclusion that service at Ron's is sporadic and uneven - hence some visits are genuinely fun and I enjoy perusing the merchandise or buying a gun while others annoying and I don't understand why I didn't go to Sportsman's Warehouse instead. Today, a Monday afternoon, there were very few customers but more than enough salespeople. I was promptly approached by a salesman who immediately pointed me to exactly what I was looking for (a late model used Ruger 10/22 in good condition). He offered to sell it to me for $190, which was $20 less than the tagged price. He immediately handed me over to another salesperson who then processed my paperwork expediently. While the paper work was being done another salesman approached me. He immediately assisted me in finding some 30-40 Krag ammunition (their last box) and he mentioned it was an item they usually keep in stock - which is great as I don't know of another store near where I live that sells newly manufactured version of this specific 114+ year old ammo. I continued to drool over their wide selection of used shotguns and a few 1898/99 Krag's when another salesman offered to help me. All four salesmen, and the lady running the register were all very pleasant and helpful. This was a pretty amazing, usually I have to wait for one of the salesmen to stop having a long wondering conversation with grizzled looking gun-nut before one pays attention to me - even if I'm clearly ready to buy something. In the end it was best visit I've experienced at Ron's. I've now purchased four firearms here, sold two, bought a slew of ammo plus accessories, and pop-in at least once a month just to check out what they have in stock. read more

This is a good place to go. I'll make this short and sweet. This is the best gun store in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho for your average person, so don't bother to look else where unless you're fine with wasting time. The store is packed from opening until closing time; which is no other gun store can come close to saying this. I searched all over Albuquerque and Rio Rancho and this was the only store that had a specialty AR-15 that I wanted(even SS weapons in RR - a specialty dealer had nothing). You'll find a big selection of guns; including guns which are rare anywhere else in this city such as UZI's, M-14's, AK-47 types, G3 variants and specialty AR-15's or whatever is randomly in stock or not when you visit. A large variety of hunting to antique guns are also in stock. A decent variety of hand guns if you need or want them. The only bad I can think of is the prices might not always be the cheapest in town. However, sometimes they will give you a decent discount to compensate for it. Also, as with any gun store some attitude exists; but I feel it's relatively minimal compared with other gun stores. Some degree of friendliness even exists in this store; which you won't find very much at other gun stores in Albuquerque. Others are gruff, untrusting or even grumpy based on my experiences of buying from them. I don't think there's much more to add as this somes up this gun store. Wait, this is about the only gun store that I consistently see women in. Also, most people come in to browse out of curiosity as it is a somewhat interesting gun store. read more

I've been buying and selling guns at Ron's since the 1970's. I've never had reason to be disappointed. He's a good and ethical businessman that has made firearms his life's work. Ron's knowledge of firearms and the firearms market locally and nationally has kept him solidly in business for decades. Whether you're interests are in antiques, collectibles or the latest technology, you are more likely to find it here than any other firearms store in New Mexico and in many instances, the surrounding states. The staff has always treated me honestly and fairly, whether it involved a transfer or outright purchase, new or used. The one or two minor issues I've had with older collectible used guns have always been resolved quickly and fairly. While the selection of firearms in the store expands and contracts due to market forces, you'd be hard pressed to find a broader selection anywhere. I've watched a fairly large number of gun stores open and close here in the last 40 years...all of them out to beat the competition. It appears that Ron's had them outclassed from day one. read more

I've always hod good experiences at Ron Petersons. They have some excellent staff and some that are a bit gruff at times, but even they have their enjoyable sides. They carry a pretty good selection, including collectible rifles. I have purchased from them numerous times and have been happy with every purchase. Many times Ron Peterson has been cheaper than some of the big-box places that sell firearms. The one con I have for this shop is that their gunsmithing is very limited and they don't have a whole lot of ways to send you to find someone able to do what you need. This has been my first stop when looking for shooting gear and supplies for many years. There are plenty of places to buy ammo and reloading supplies now, but Ron Peterson's usually has the best selection and decent pricing. During the latest round of shortages they managed to keep a supply of primers in stock by rationing them out at a reasonable level --- instead of letting hoarders empty the shelves, they spread 'em around so that everyone could get enough to get some shooting done. In happier times I usually found Ron Peterson's to have a great supply of cheap, surplus ammo. Those times will come again, but it'll be a while. read more

Uncle Ron's is the best gun shop in Albuquerque for modern and antique guns. It would get a 5 star rating if it was a little more responsive to the black rifle market. With there being so many gun stores in the Albuquerque area now Ron Petersons hasn't improved from its golden days. This used to be the place to go in town. The staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable on anything firearm related. They also have a big selection of used guns from more modern to Winchester 1890s. The bad part about Rons is the prices. On the older guns they are right on the high market value. However on anything newer they are extremely overpriced. This place has some of the rudest help I have ever seen. I walked in looking for some ammo was treated like a shoplifter. I asked for help and they looked at me like I was an idiot. I was followed around the store looking for ammo without help. I was hoping they would have been a little more helpful because I had found a rifle I liked. Overpriced, overconfident and in a bad location with terrible parking. You can get a better experience purchasing a firearm just about anywhere else in Albuquerque. With the online market and, willing, helpful gun stores online, it is just too easy to dismiss these arrogant buffoons. This is by far my favorite place to go in New Mexico. I find this the most welcoming place for anyone of any experience level to go where they can get a helping hand and a fair price. As a woman, I tend to get the automatic assumption of a lack of knowledge when I walk into local gun shops but here I felt respected. I've been frequenting Ron Petersen's since 1982 and have always been completely satisfied with their customer service. I have never bought or traded a gun and felt that I was treated unfairly. I like the fact that I can always go and browse the store and backroom inventory and never be bothered. There is no other gunstore in the vicinity that can match Petersen's inventory. I see some are comparing Sportsmans Warehouse to Petersen's and that is comparing apples to oranges.
