Well. That visit was ugly ! Been hearing not-so- Stellar service conversations about my Cabelas/Bass pro. Yelp reviews confirm it And i lived it this morning Required a training dog collar, items like that require a trip to Cabelas in my book Now expensive items like my collar are locked up. Ok. Makes it hard to spin the box to read up on the items but ok. Found the one i wanted Went up to customer service desk and asked for help in dog collars since they are locked up Went back to the collars and waited. And waited Went back to customer service again and asked for help to unlock the dog collars Went back to collars and waited and waited Almost ready to give up. Shelf stocker walked by in green cabelas shirt and i asked him to unlock the dog collars. He did what i asked begrudgingly then asked if i had completed my shopping so he could take the collar to the cash register Oh boy. You bet i'm done shopping! The Bass Pro takeover of Cabelas was the worst thing that could happened to any of us who enjoyed the wonderful products and service that the Cabela Family gave us for so many years. Besides doing away with the wonderful Cabela brand clothing etc., the service in the gun department has been and is horrible. They don't pay their employees enough to keep good help and the results are obvious. I looked forward to having a Cabelas here in Albuquerque for years but what a disappointment this has turned out to be. read more

Come on a weekday very quite and you get to have the place to yourself. Aisle are clear and very organize! The firearms department is odd where you need to scan QR code to reserve your place in the line with free contactless. But what if someone doesn't own a smartphone nor a phone. Be careful when picking up your gun from this store. My husband and I traveled from Santa Fe to Albuquerque to pick up a shotgun he had ordered online and had sent here for pickup. Someone called him from a number that was very similar to the store number, but not the same. We got there a few minutes after the store opened and went to the back to the gun counter, checked in, and were helped right away. They went to look for the gun but couldn't find it, so they checked their computer and it showed that it hadn't been delivered yet, but would be there in two days. Great. We started to leave, but headed back to make sure they had my husband's correct info to contact him (because he hadn't gotten an email he was supposed to receive), and we decided to ask for the tracking number so that we could know for certain when it arrived. I looked up the tracking number and it showed the gun had been delivered two days prior--it was there somewhere. So we showed them, and they looked in the back for about fifteen minutes before someone emerged and told us they had found it on someone's desk. Whew! So then my husband filled out all his info for the background check and when that was all done we were told there was a seven day waiting period. Well, that goes against Federal law, but whatever. We came back 8 days later, when they called and said we could pick it up, and that went smoother, just took awhile to get helped. So moral of the story--check your tracking if they say they don't have your gun! read more

By far the worst decision I made was to purchase a firearm online and use them as an FFL transfer. Use a smaller or local shop. Got here at noon to check in to get my firearm, but you are put in line to speak to someone over the counter. To include people window shopping and possibly buying something. Now if they do decide to purchase your wait becomes even longer because they have to get their paperwork started. But some look at a pistol and walk away. Never again. Its now 1330 and still my firearm sits in the back. read more

Maybe it's just the way the world is now, but unless you're buying guns or ammo, good luck getting any help. My wife and I wanted to see some binoculars and were waiting at the counter, looking through the glass (clearly interested) for about 15 minutes with $400 bucks in my pocket. An older woman came from the back and walked by us. I swear we're not wearing camo, but it might have actually helped! That's it. Done. Thanks. So we're a few yards behind her on the way to the door when she stops to check her phone. Priorities. As we head out the door, I noted at least 5 dudes in the front all talking. I said to my wife, "nobody's helping anybody." The woman heard me and had the audacity to say "You're welcome." That's some customer service for you. F U lady. read more

The gun/ammo service at this place is absolutely terrible. Was called up to the counter to look at guns and the fat man with the goatee was "helping" me. Asked him what he recommended for carrying and told me "if you have to ask people maybe gun shopping isn't for you." As someone trying to sell someone a gun who does that? Terrible service and I've had a couple friends have the same experience with him. Cabela's you're not doing anyone good by keeping this man employed. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I purchased two guns from Cabela's "library" where they are shipped from other stores for local pick-up. The policy is you have to pay in full up front but you have the right to refuse pick-up if it's not what you want. Unfortunately, one was not what I wanted - the grips had been re-finished and it was not in the condition I was expecting. So I refused pick-up and they initiated the refund process. No problem, right? This is how it goes sometimes.... Except when I got my credit card statement weeks later, there was NO REFUND from Cabela's. I went back to the store in person and asked to speak to a manager. He looked up the transaction, confirmed that I was never given a refund and re-submitted it. No problem, right? Stuff happens... Except never once did he say, 'sorry about that' or 'sorry for your inconvenience.' Just silently and solemnly went about the paper work. Never acted like I was a valuable customer even though I had purchased another gun from them at the same time as this one. Since there is no consistency or quality standards on how guns are listed in their "library" some have two pictures, others have ten, there is no condition rating scale and they can't take care of a refund as promised, AVOID! read more

I've been in here quite a few times, searching for various items at different price points, but will not be back unless some things change. First, most employees are not wearing masks. Second, when asking where something was (I was seeking fuel for my JetBoil) I asked 3 different employees and got zero assistance. Third, in the fishing section looking for items for my parents I wanted to ask a clarifying question about what I was picking up. It'd been a few years since they've fished or myself, but they want to take my son with them. The guy gave a less than helpful, 'Well the fishing stuff is right there.' Thanks for the help... Fourth, looking in the hunting section at guns and ammunition. I waited in line as they instructed. No help, 4 men behind the counter. I finally peeped up and asked if they had other calibers behind the counter as I couldn't find what I needed, I was told, all we have is out there. Okay great. I then asked if I could look at a handgun they had and if they had the matching ammo. Ignored. They then took the guy behind me and answered all his questions, he got to look at guns, and got taken care of. Okay so because I'm a female, I get zero customer service?!?! WTF. I bet I can scout, track, hunt, and field dress an animal better than the guy you helped behind me that had clearly never done any of that before. I don't know if it's the way I look or the fact that I'm a blonde girl, but I just walked in there and asked three different people to hold my stuff at the front of the store and the second I walked away they put it all back two hours of shopping And I was polite. I've been dying to go check out Cabela's since they started building. I've heard the chain was really cool but nothing could have prepared me for how fun it is in person! I played in the tents like I was a little kid and loved the smell of the fresh roasted nuts. I had no idea they sold old fashioned candy and fresh fudge! We were also shocked to find that they had a small range where they would help fit you for a bow and teach you to shoot it! How cool! I loved the spice sections! I had no idea that they had their own award winning spices! I can't wait to try the prime rib rub. The store was huge and there was so much to see! It was a really fun experience to explore and we will definitely be back! read more

Have read other post's talking about employees refusing to acknowledge or help them! That is exactly what happened to me! I went in to look at a firearm, and the guy working the section did everything he could to ignore me and not help out....maybe because i was in business attire and he thought I wasn't serious??? I say that because 2 minutes later an officer with a bullet proof vest walks up and the same cabelas employee almost sprinted to him to help him out. Funny thing is he was just browsing and didn't make a purchase. The cabelas guy practically drooled over him the whole time though! I walked out, and went and dropped a grand on a firearm at Omni instead where the guys are willing to help, and awesome. SCREW CABELAS and their overpriced garbage. When your employees judge someone based on their looks and refuse to help them that says a lot about a business. Will go to Omni and sportsmans from now on! read more

Of the three times I have been to this location I have not had good experiences. Each time I have gone back I hoped the previous experience was a fluke. The first time my daughter and I were followed throughout the shoe section after we told the guy we were looking at the options. Today's experience one of the employees moved my cart away from me to help another woman. I told him that was my cart, he flippantly said it's over there. I had to go get it to load the chairs I was buying. I went to find my husband. He was looking at the Yeti coolers and went to ask for the pricing on one (they were not priced). He came back and said the manager was very rude with him. I left my cart and chairs and we left. Went to Sportsman and had a much better experience!! We bought all we needed. 3 hours ago I asked a sales assistant for the correct ammo for my newly acquired handgun. He told what I needed and I headed home only to find it was the wrong caliber. Returned to the store with the unopened box and the sales assist was quick to point out that all ammo sales are final like I'm the moron which can't read. Nothing at the cash register to remind you that all ammo sales are final. Bought the correct ammo and sales associate failed to ask me if I was military so no discount. Who is the customer. If you are new to a sport don't expect to get any expert advice at this store. read more

The fact that they already have a 2-1/2 star rating should tell you just how bad this place is run and how horrible their store management policies are. We ran into an incident today in their store where we were refused service based on a technicality. This is a store that I went to to buy some Christmas presents for my husband and my son and I did not wanna go. I thought who wants to hang out in a shop that sells fishing gear camping gear etc. but to my surprise it has become one of my favorite stores. I stopped here today. Thinking that I could buy a rifle scope that is on sale. Signed into the kiosk. And waited and waited. I was the next up on the list. Only 3 customers on the kiosk. 55 minutes later a I was called. But only to find out, another customer service rep would help me. I eventually just gave up and went to sportsmans warehouse. Forget this place if you are a trout fisherman. Pretty much whatever they have for fishing is for bass fishing with spinners. They have a lot of that but the Flyfishing section is pitiful. And the section they have for that is under stocked. Plus: I'm a George Strait fan but the twangy country music they were playing was almost as irritating as rap or heavy metal. It felt like I was in a Bass Pro Shop in Arkansas. Cabela's website has much trout-fishing stuff why not this store. Also the three staff members I asked had no idea what I was talking about. Stick with Sportsman's Warehouse and Los Pinos if you are into trout fishing. Didn't the people who opened this store realize they were in New Mexico, not Oklahoma? read more

GORGEOUS store! My gawd! It's been years since I've been in a Cabela's and I'm over the moon that Albuquerque finally got one!! Of all the days to check this place out, I checked it out on Black Friday. Oh, I know. How silly of me, right? Nah. It was a BREEZE. It was a PLEASURE to walk around - tons of square footage, the aisles are spaced wonderfully, products are easily accessible, everything was stocked as they should've been and the staff was ON POINT. Anytime we looked semi lost, someone would come up and ask if we needed any help! Man! I love it! My husband and I went to Sportsman's Warehouse before popping in since we were researching game cameras. If you live in Albuquerque, I'm sure you can guess why we got cameras (thieves!) Cabela's happened to have the same models we almost bought over at SW, but theirs were $75 cheaper...a piece. Guess who got our business? Yeaaaaahhh, buddy! We walked up to the checkout line and were immediately directed to an open register where Alexander finished taking care of us. SUPER respectful guy and was so nice. When he picked up the fact that my husband was former Air Force....not only did he look him straight in the eye and thank him for military service, but he firmly shook his hand. I dunno about other folks, but as a wife, I really appreciate it when my extremely humble husband gets a nod once in a while. You don't really see that anymore, even with us living in a metropolitan area with an active military installation like Kirtland AFB near by. So yes, we will absolutely be returning to Cabela's!!! read more

This review is regarding the Shooting department and the complete lack of service. I went in to see if a specific rifle was in stock and observed a model variant on the shelf I was interested in. I was unable to see the specific caliber, which depending on what it was, I may or may not have requested to handle/potentially purchase the rifle. There were 4-5 employees working in the department, some directly dealing with customers, a few not. As one of the employees came from around the counter, I asked if he could tell me what caliber the rifle I was looking at was. He told me he was helping another customer and directed me to a sign where I could scan and enter a virtual queue. Seemed fair, so I did as he instructed. The queue indicated I was 4th in line with an estimated 8 minute wait. 40 minutes later, I've moved up one spot to 3rd in line. There is one employee now visibly helping a customer, a few other shoppers looking at firearms, and no other employees in sight. I gave it 5 more minutes, experienced more of the same, and left. For the duration of 45 minutes, not one single employee looked at me, talked to me, nothing. The only conversation had was when I was told to use the app to get in virtual line, when all I asked was what caliber a rifle was. 45 minutes to simply ask what caliber a rifle on the shelf was. I wondered if maybe this was an off day, something not ordinary, so I checked reviews. Looks like this has been a problem with the shooting department for a while. So it appears there is a complete lack of leadership, training and standards. Too bad- Cabela's have typically been a good chain in the past. Unfortunate that our Albuquerque location is such a poor representation. Hopefully better leadership will turn it around someday. In the interim, if you're looking for a firearm or related items, I'd encourage you to avoid the frustration and take your business elsewhere. read more
