Bill Keis Piano Lessons - STUDENT RECITAL MARCH 2019

Bill is one of those teachers that exudes excitement when sharing his knowledge. Like a kid in a…read morecandy store he is dying for you to get a concept or new skill so that he can move on to teach you the 'good stuff'. When he demonstrates something his mastery of the piano is evident and it allows him to demonstrate why you are learning a technique. We have just started learning pentatonic scales (apparently the backbone of many a bass riff and melody). To show the importance of learning the pentatonic scales he swiftly played 6 or 7 songs I recognized and said 'see! It's everywhere'. Now I am practicing my scales with enthusiasm and building playlists on Spotify with pentatonic based songs so I can listen out for them. It takes great skill to be proficient at the piano. It takes great talent to translate that skill to a new student. Bill has both in great quantities so you should sign up for class

Well, my "someday" occurred a little over two years ago and I was referred to Bill Keis by a piano tuner who played magnificently. Bill was actually this guy's teacher. (I had previously tried another teacher at a local music store who absolutely frustrated me. That guy was more interested in me listening to how great he played than teaching me. It almost made me quit keyboards altogether.) Fast forward to today. I am now reading music, improvising, playing jazz, blues, a touch of classical, and understanding much more about rhythm, harmony and melody. Bill is an experienced musician who actively plays live gigs, as well as an accomplished and sought-after arranger, composer and recording artist. Chick Correa? Jay Leno Show? Chico? Wow. He is the real deal. I can't recommend him enough as a teacher. I have weekly lessons at his studio, assuming my busy work schedule allows for it. It has proven to be a wonderful outlet for me. In addition, his book, The Complete Guide To Learning Music, is great for beginners, intermediate and advanced musicians as well. He has also authored a bunch of e-books for learning. I was not asked to provide this review, but am doing so in an effort to share my enthusiasm for Bill as a teacher. He is patient and can even work with a stubborn attorney like me!

I had a quick and seamless experience at the Avondale Guitar Center!…read more As soon as I walked in and asked for help locating a specific item, Tristan immediately stopped what he was doing, came around the counter, and personally led me to the DJ section in the back. He didn't hesitate to grab a ladder and pull the item for me. What stood out most was the trust he showed, he allowed me to carry the item to the front myself, even though it was a higher-priced product which other businesses frown upon. The entire visit, from walking in to checking out took no more than 10 minutes, literally! Tristan was also very patient while helping me set up an account and clearly explained the warranty options without being pushy. His attitude and customer service were truly excellent. I actually returned about an hour later, just minutes before closing, and was helped by another associate, Andrew. Once again, I was greeted right away and asked how he could assist me. Andrew was calm, kind, and understanding, and he quickly helped me process an exchange without any issues. He handled everything efficiently and made the process stress-free. I honestly didn't expect to need to visit a Guitar Center, but this experience completely exceeded my expectations. The staff created a welcoming and helpful environment, and I highly recommend this location!

Because of this just the thought of having to 'dance' in public normally makes me flee in the opposite direction, or at the very least break into a sweat, lol! I am however an eternal optimist & decided to give an intro beginners class a chance. I'm glad I did :) I had SO much fun! The instructor, I think her name is Linda, was amazing. She was so knowledgeable, broke steps down so it didn't feel overwhelming, made all of us feel comfortable & really made it an experience to remember. Yes, I did still sweat, lol, but I want to do it again!

Our children got to dance with Linda that night. Since both children enjoyed it, we were thrilled to hear she taught children's classes on Saturday mornings. When I called Linda to arrange for private classes, I was very surprised to hear how reasonable her prices are. Based on my experience with private ballroom dance lessons, I was expecting to pay twice as much as she quoted me. My daughter and I started taking classes together in September and we are enjoying learning something together. We are getting more than what we pay for. Linda is quite obviously not only a professional, but talented and passionate about her art. Her ability to teach both of us at the same time is exceptional, especially given the difference in our attention spans. Both my daughter and I leave every week feeling like we had a good time, and find that we are progressing as well.

I thought they might…read moreteach him some skills or different drawing techniques but it really was just him sitting in a classroom drawing next to other children. This may be helpful if your child doesn't have time to draw but for any blossoming artist who spends hours of their own time sitting and drawing there isn't any value to this time at Kat's verses being at home. I'm not sure the "teacher" has any sort of special training; actually i don't think I ever even saw the teacher or had any feedback from him/her(?) in the 4 months we attended. During this time I saw no change in skill or ability from this class. He didn't particularly enjoy it either. It seemed that the front desk assistant frequently taught the class which started late and ended early regularly. My son benefited from the Young Rembrandt's program at his school more than this program and YR, for the most part, just taught him how to shade. So the bar wasn't set extremely high. This school also requires a registration fee ($60) to even try any of the classes and also requires a credit card on file which they cannot update except in person. There isn't any online account management.. They don't allow for over the phone changes and their withdrawal policy is also very strict so we ended up paying for a month we didn't want. They also sent my credit card information entire number, expiration date, ccv code, address and full name (!) in clear text VIA EMAIL unencrypted which is very very horrendous security policy for a company who requires this information be provided. They are not obviously not PCI compliant so I'd be wary of providing them this information. They aren't particularly nice or friendly either. We won't be back.

They try to do much in a limited space, and mostly, that works. Their wind and violin/viola/cello/bass/etc space is really nice, and their acoustical guitar and bass sections are strong. The keyboards area is sort of scrunched together but top brands and a bit of variety. I liked their synths, although not a crazy variety. Prices I heard seemed a bit higher, but there is added value here, too. Huge sheet music section. Much wind instrument variety, as well as mouthpieces, reeds/ligatures/etc. It has the widest and broadest inventory I've seen in Arizona. Worth a visit; musicians will appreciate the variety.
